Scotty Miller Has Been Found

January 9th, 2022

Located.

For a while there, Joe thought a neighbor’s pet Border Collie had been lost. But it is now found.

Joe’s been getting a lot of missives asking, “Where’s Scotty Miller?”

He has been active — on special teams. Aside from the ugly whooping that night the slimy Saints defense put on the Bucs, Miller has just about been absent from the offense.

(The slimy Saints missed the playoffs and they will have to watch playoff games from a beach bar in Punta Cana or Belize City. Really hate to see it!)

After the immortal Cyril Grayson got hurt today and left the game, and for a short period when Mike Evans was out, there was a Scotty Miller sighting. Someone on Twitter asked Joe why Miller had been invisible from the offense. Joe replied that it should speak for itself that the Bucs had to be down four receivers for Miller to get a chance.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians was asked about that tonight. He said the wide receiver corps was just too deep for Miller to jump ahead of anyone.

“He just wasn’t getting his opportunities,” Arians said. “Other guys were in there, and it’s tough.

“We have a great [wide receiver] room. That room is tough. You earn your snaps by performing. He did a helluva job today.”

And while Miller didn’t make an impact in the passing game, he did impact the run game.

After a fourth-down pass came up short for Stinking Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold, on the very next play Miller lined up to the left, took a short pitch from Blaine Gabbert (!) on a Benn’d Around and for once this play worked. “Scooter” scooted around right end and ran in from 33 yards out to put the game away 41-17.

Miller later also ran another Benn’d Around to the left side for 10 yards.

Joe liked how the Bucs and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich used Miller. Joe would like to see more creative ways to use Miller as a tailback or have him out of a tailback position run into the flat and get one-on-one with a linebacker and watch him fly. You know, a mismatch.

No, Miller has not had a good year. But when the Bucs called, Miller was able to answer the ball with a score. That’s all you can ask for.

That end around has never worked, I can’t believe the Panthers feel for it twice. I think the best they’ve ever got on that was maybe 7 yards, and probably lost yards every other time they ran it. Was amazing to see that work after years of trying.

  2. Bucfan Says:

That pitch to Miller wasn’t from Brady. Just saying!!

  3. David Says:

Miller, Perriman, Grayson, each of them have stepped up whenever their number has been called. Great job.

    JOE
    Any word on Grayson’s injury?

  4. Bird Says:

Hainsey down field with the block. Good to see. He was pumped

Trying to run the clock out late, teams stack the inside against the run, so a speedster going out around the end can work, kind of like Godwin sealing a first down in the playoffs. Great time to do it.

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Those 2 runs by Scotty Miller will give the Eagles something to think about!
Very creative play calling, for a change!

It was also a 17 point lead with 4-mins left when the Bucs run the closest thing they have to a trick play. I’m going to guess the Panthers were not expecting it, which is probably why it finally worked after 3 years.

Taking nothing away from Miller, he did great with it. I just hope the Bucs don’t think they ‘found’ something and run it like 3 times next week for -11 yards.

    Any word on Grayson’s injury?

    Doesn’t sound good.

  9. Ben green Says:

Ben’s been wondering where he’s been all year. I know he had some injury issues early in the season. Thought he would be a much bigger part of the offense this season. Another reason to thank Antonio Brown, one more reciever Brady could’ve developed some much needed chemistry with before he’s asked to make huge catches in a playoff game

  10. Oxycodoms Says:

Reminds me when jameis hit godwin in last game of season against a defense that wasn’t trying

  11. Miller5252 Says:

Glad to see him get some use today, man he looked fast and healthy. Hope we can use him more in the playoffs. Loved Mikes comments about him after the game.

Crazy day of football today! Can’t believe some many teams shat the bed and the Bucs end up the number 2 seed! Ben continues, colts fall, 49ers win, cards lose, Texans almost pull it out, and now the last seed in the AFC will be decided!! A lot of great games today!!

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

    Perriman, Miller, Grayson.
    All have stepped up.
I think we’ll be ok, although I wouldnt be opposed to Brady recruiting another WR.

Can we official declare OJ Howard a wasted pick now? No more talk of his massive “potential”
With the crisis situation we are in now, If they arent playing Howard, hes done.

  13. Jersey buc Says:

I see the shout out to areals benn hahah.
All the BA sucks bandwagon fans have no idea.

  14. BucsfaninTX Says:

Ah the great draft choice Arreloius Benn…. Picked 2 slots before Gronkowski.

  15. Ben green Says:

Y’all did get lucky to get the #2. I hate the new playoff format, and the 17th game. It was hard enough with 16 and it worked well for the league for 100 freaking years. Goes to show what a piss poor union they have. 13-4 should be worthy of a first round bye

  16. Jersey buc Says:

Olsen ran the snot out of that play with benn. It never worked either

  17. Ben green Says:

Roflmao, jersey you could’ve coached this team to 13-4, maybe better. Arians is a fool, and is barley coherent. He’s probably going to shady acres after the season anyway, so it’s a moot point. I feel bad for people that still defend ole ammonia brain

  18. Ben green Says:

Ben would love to go on a good ole pub crawl with him though, even if he did have to bring his golf cart to get around…

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Notice all the linemen waaaaay downfield blocking…

  20. Jersey buc Says:

Ben go root for the saints or someone else. Us long time real fans been through junk coaches
    Youngry Bucs
    Toes on the line Bucs
    Turnover only Bucs.
So yea beat it bandwagon a$$ fan

  21. Francisco Guzman Says:

Can Scotty get open on routes? Kid has speed but his route running is a problem. He could be Brady’s edelman if he got open on his routes.

  22. Joe Says:

Another reason to thank Antonio Brown, one more reciever Brady could’ve developed some much needed chemistry with before he’s asked to make huge catches in a playoff game

You have to be smashed out of your mind or a pathetic troll if you think this team is better off with Scotty Miller on the field over Antonio Brown. Don’t be dumb.

Don’t you think there is a reason why Miller wasn’t playing? You think coaches who are trying to repeat as Super Bowl champs and trying to get head coaching gigs willingly play lesser players?

  23. Steven007 Says:

Steven007 says, Ben, haha, Joe just called you dumb. It brought a smile to my face. And many many many others, trust me.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

As a friend texted me, “Miller just made his one play for the year.”

The good news is by running those end-arounds when he’s on the field, it’s one more thing for a D to be worried about.

    If you can’t out-skill them. out-deceive them.

  25. Brett Says:

Headline should be “Scotty Miller Has Been Found, OJ Howard Still Missing.”

  26. stpetebucsfan Says:

Leveon Bell got his first passing TD as a Buc. Fournette comes back. ROJO and Vaughn are decent….we’re looking good in the backfield.

Looking at Brady and his calm demeanor I think as long as our OL stays healthy and plays like they have all season he’s good with whomever they trot out there.

Give TB12 the protection and he’ll find a target! Next to Brady it’s the OL that deserves the kudos for the offense…not our sparkling receivers or running backs.

  27. Pete Mitchell Says:

Can’t wait for next week’s Justin Watson sighting.

Man… I hope it doesn’t come to that.

  28. adam from ny Says:

    one scottish miller has resurfaced…

we are going to need a ultra solid group effort from perriman, tyler, scotty and hopefully grayson moving forward to replace CG14 and AB…

it is possible because the goat straight elevates mofos…it’s just what he does

  29. adam from ny Says:

wow san fran really punked those rams…i think they are done now…

saints and rams are our problems – saints ain’t in, and the rams just took a 6th whooping in a row from sf and had a total collapse from 17-0…they might be mentally done

  30. unbelievable Says:

    @Joe-

He took that end around from Gabbert, not Brady.

Kinda wish we had kept that hidden til the playoffs though. Element of surprise, etc.

  31. captivajim Says:

i fear Grayson will not be available against the Eagles.. Perriman looks really good after the catch — But tyler not so much .Gronk & ME both look like they’re starting to roll !!

We cannot get behind Eagles–we score on 1st possession.. With healthy Fournette we should be able to consume the clock..so defense dosen’t get gassed

  32. bucschamp Says:

i wonder how fast that was

  33. SB~LV Says:

I can see a trick play on one of those sweeps or reverses.. if Scotty can throw a football

  34. Jmarkbuc Says:

    SBLV

Just use simple reverse and hand it back to TB.. he can throw it😄

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

    SPBF

It’s the defense that’s the problem. And big running QB Jalen Hurts is just the kind that damaged us, even when we’re healthy.

And Rojo? Always thought he was the best pure runner on the team.. I got dragged for suggesting that on a per play basis he’s the most injured player in the league. If it’s not physically, he has an “ illness” if it’s not that his “ heads not right” it’s a shame. He really can run, when he wants to. Leveon is a pro and that’s awesome. Vaughn is ok … Come on Lenny!

  36. Wild Bill Says:

Haha Joe. Scotty was never lost. He doesn’t play much because he is a one trick pony. Fast straight line runner with few moves and too dam small. If he had AB like moves he could be a star. His best shot is late in the game when the defensive backs have lactic acid in their legs can’t run as fast as they were early in the game. Bring him in in the 4th quarter with his speed and fresh legs! Let him pull defenders deep and cross another receiver behind him. Scotty could be a great decoy and if the defenders let up at all he is a true deep threat. We just need to game him properly.

  37. Mike Johnson Says:

We gotta figure out how to use Scotty more. He’s quicker than I thought.
