Robert Hainsey Shows Football Is Still Blocking And Tackling

January 10th, 2022

Bucs center Robert Hainsey.

Joe has written this before but as long as football is played, it will not change.

You can have all the fancy offenses and sexy star quarterbacks and funky blitzes all you want. But if you cannot block and you cannot tackle, it doesn’t matter. You will lose.

Blocking and tackling is the fundamental core of the game.

And you know what Joe thought was the second-most impressive play last night in the Bucs’ seal-clubbing of the Stinking Panthers? It came from a backup center.

(The Breshad Perriman sideline catch and the throw from Tom Brady was the most impressive play for Joe.)

It was cool to see rookie former Notre Dame offensive lineman Robert Hainsey get snaps in late in the game when the Bucs were in mop-up duty. And when Scotty Miller scored on a Benn’d Around, it was cool as hell.

(Joe never thought he’d ever type “Benn’d Around” and “score” in the same sentence.)

While many were focused on Miller, what caught Joe’s eye was the blocking of Hainsey. After the snap, Hainsey got caught in the wash. He fought his way through the mosh pit, ran right, turned upfield and was a one-man convoy for Miller.

In fact at one point Hainsey was 23 yards downfield clearing traffic for Miller. That was so impressive, Joe immediately shotgunned a Bromosa from Big Storm Brewing!

Take a look at the video of the touchdown below. Watch Hainsey, No. 70, hustle his arse off to spring Miller downfield. F@ckin’ awesome!

Joe doesn’t know if Hainsey is ready to take over for Ryan Jensen at center next year. Jensen is scheduled to be a free agent. Something tells Joe that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will pull out the Team Glazer AMEX Platinum to keep Jensen. You know, it’s all about Brady, and rightfully so.

But Joe does know one thing for sure: Hainsey’s heart and head are in the right place.

Hussle from a big ugly is ALWAYS a plus!!!
    Way to go big guy!

  2. SB Says:

Where oh where did Medicated Pete, Onielbucs, and Ndog go?

  3. based weeb Says:

I noticed this too watching the replay this morning. Really excites me for the future with him. Wether it’s replacing Jensen in a few years (I think he gets at least two more years in Tampa before his play falls off. Or battling for a starting Guard spot with Capps next year!

  4. Nano107 Says:

    Damn boy was trucking

  5. gbobucsfan Says:

    That’s a meat train…full steam ahead

  6. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

OJ Howard almost did a football thing there too.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

    Exactly.

Games are won with line play, blocking and tackling, period, end of discussion.

I posted before, I was also incredibly impressed with the #70 convoy so far downfield. HE caused the tuddie, not Scott Miller alone.

Guaranteed, he will be a shout-out hero in post-game film sessions. That play will be rewound over and over with the OL coach frothing at the mouth with praise!

  8. Bird Says:

The big ugglies on both sides of the ball win games

Oh and brady has something to do with it too

Joes we think a lot alike well except for jameis time here but wont go there

That pass from brady would have hit center bullseye from 35’yards away
And already commented on hainsey block previously

  9. SOEbuc Says:

He’s a beast. OL must continue to stay solid into the future. Must continue to build OL through the draft at points.

  10. Bird Says:

    Sb

Dont forget bucs anthem , orlbucfan, mike johnson and clean house

They almost want bucs to lose so they can blame on brady
Crazy fans we have for sure.

  11. Nprbuc Says:

Another thing you may notice- OJ was trucking down the field, waving at 3 Panthers. He let the one guy with a shot at Scotty just truck on by him. He never made contact with ANYONE. 95 for the Kitties almost got to 10 when he should have been block by OJ. Man is afraid of contact? One of the many reasons that OJ will be gone shortly.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Thanks for sharing Joe. I couldnt help myself, turned on the Rams game and missed this play.

  13. SlyPirate Says:

It would suck as a DB to see an OL running at you when your job was to tackle the guy behind him.

  14. DrunkinyborI can always Says:

I missed that. That is awesome 😎. I’m telling ya this coaching too to bottom is probably the best we ever had. It’s debatable but I have been hoping for years and years the Glazers would dork out the loot for coaches, scouts etc.etx.etx.

  15. HC Grover Says:

The guy with the towel sprung it too. Number something 4.

  16. HC Grover Says:

Put Wild Man on the edge in place of Plan 9 from Outer Space.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

We need OJ to do something in the playoffs:

    1. To help us win

    2. So we can get at least a halfway decent draft pick for him , like a 5th 😄

  18. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

This is SO GREAT. They look like over-sized 6th graders having an absolute blast out there.

  19. Coburn Says:

Licht has absolutely nailed these mid-late round interior online. Guys like cappa and stinnie and noe possibly hainsey. If we can do same for depth at tackle behind wirfs (first round stud) and Donovan we would be absolutely set. If only we could have the same fortunes on dline. Nelson is looking good, nacho is good depth… JTS remains to be seen.. needs to learn how to shed blocks… Ha the athleticism, but hasn’t shown much lately

  20. Coburn Says:

I shouldn’t count nacho though. Was a free agent.. Nelson and Vea (how the F did I not include him?) good dline we have drafted so far (with Jts pending). We drafted a couple DTs late that didn’t do much. Need another good interior guy for sure and likely an end

  21. David Says:

    JMarkbuc

That ship sailed. They are not getting anything for O.J. Howard. He has literally not done anything in 4 years. He’s toast.
His contract is up after this year. They’re not resigning him

  22. unbelievable Says:

So you’re saying that games are won and lost in the trenches?

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Danny Romo and his booth partner were singing his praise last night also! That’s a lot of man meat coming a little cbs way! Too bad he didn’t pancake dude

  24. widad Says:

Many thanks.keep up the good work

  25. RustyRhinos Says:

Liked the 35′ away Bullseye comment Bird! I play a lot of darts. Never tried to hit the board from anything past 15′, unless it was a blowdart, then watch out, I got this.

I like the backup Oline play we have had the past several seasons. Be they from Draft, FA, still needs good coaching. Jensen, Marpet, Cappa, all have competent people behind them. The tackles we have need that type of depth too. Wells is in playing a lot he is looking better. Not sure who else we have behind him. Hainsey? Good job by our GM, his staff, in working with the coaching staff to put a competitive product on the field. It does help to have Brady, but with all the amazing things he does. Nothing gets done without the Oline.

    Go!! Bucs!!!
    Go!! Dawgs!!!
