Cyril Grayson Tells A Tough-Love Tom Brady Story

Tom Brady speaks

Who doesn’t love a great Tom Brady story?

Well, maybe Antonio Brown doesn’t like them any longer, but Joe sure does.

Bucs receiver Cyril Grayson, a starter the past two games, opened up on SiriusXM NFL Radio about a time Tom Brady hurt his feelings — and changed him forever.

Grayson praised Brady for being hard on him dating back to last season (Grayson joined the Bucs in 2019) and shared a turning-point moment.

“I can remember last year when he was getting my butt for something and immediately thinking, ‘I’m like, man, like damn, I’m hurt from the way he told me this.’ But he ended the conversation by telling me, ‘The reason I’m hard on you like this is because I believe in you,”’ Grayson said.

“That stirred up something on the inside of me — for somebody who is The Goat telling me that they believe in me and that I have the qualities and I just have to focus and lock in. It did something to me helped me take my game to another level, the way I train and the way I focus. It’s awesome.”

Great stuff from Grayson — and Brady.

Joe hopes Brady has another inspirational moment or two in him before the playoffs start, perhaps with O.J. Howard and Devin White.

Just thank Thomas Brady Sr. and his wife for raising their son right.

  2. D-ManTX Says:

I predict Grayson will have a very big game this week as Bucs battle Carolina and AB’s ghost. Hoping the team turns the AB drama into a unifying us against the world moment giving the Bucs a bit more juice.

Brady has won Super Bowls with less talent. My only real concern is the defense and run game.

The Playoffs are tough. Gotta take what playoff calibre d’s give you. Brady is the expert at analyzing what’s available and going for the throat.

Two years in BA’s no risk it offense have made Brady just that much more confident. Brady still has a great deep ball with touch. He can still spin it!

But before the Bucs..aside from a few Randy Moss years…Brady was known as a dink and dunker who could exploit any D’s weakness.

Now he’s going to have Fournette and Bell…both good runner..and good pass catchers…if the Safeties sit back taking away ME…CG..Gronk…deep…he’ll hit Bell or one of the other guys underneath.

If Safeties move up and crowd the box…back to bombs away with ME and CG..and Perriman..and Gronk. We still have plenty of weapons…we are versatile and have the GOAT at QB who btw is also money in the playoffs.

As long as the OL produces like they have all season I am not worried.

Soak it all in Grayson cause if you ever play with Roger’s or Wilson all you’re gonna get is, hey kid catch the fing ball, you’re making me look bad. MVP! MVP! MVP!

    That

  7. Sean Says:

If it was anyone else I would say it’s phony but Brady’s character is consistent across teams, teammates and decades. If you work with him, he will help you reach your potential.

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

Sean, that’s why I don’t think Trask is on his radar, not willing to do the hard work but I could be wrong.

  9. Listnfrmafar Says:

Here’s the good part, there are not many if any green receivers Brady has taken under his wing that he didn’t make great. Just look at where Godwin was heading pre injury.

  10. Francisco Guzman Says:

I really Grayson and TJ can step up. Need those guys to ball. I am trying to think who has a great set of wideouts in the nfc. I would say Dallas first then maybe the rams but Odell hasn’t exactly been lights out for the rams. Green Bay has adams and a bunch of no names as well. So i would say the only team with a bunch of good wideouts are the dallas cowboys.

  11. Francisco Guzman Says:

We need a healthy Fournette back. He can catch passes as a wide receiver out of the backfield.

  12. lokog Says:

its us then the rest of the nfl

There is a video of Brady, Edelman, and I think Amedola working out at Brady’s cabin during the summer. Edelman runs a route and you here Brady yell at him, “damm it Jules, don’t cheat me on that turn”. Jules says I didn’t. Brady makes him run it again. This is in the summer! Do what he tells you to do young receivers. Jules did.

Joe – i am just so thankful this guy came to the bucs. i knew he was good but you really dont realize until he plays for your team. patriot fans had this for 20 seasons but it is truly unbelieveable how great of a person and teammate brady is. whatever happens and however long he plays was totally worth it and he has to be remembered as one of the best buccaneers of all time.

Brady is my Favorite Human on the Planet (outside of close friends & Family).

I swear, anytime I say ‘Tom Brady’ as I’m trying to execute something, whether it be a 3-pointer in a pickup basketball game or any other random situation), I pretty much Always execute and perform the required task to be successful (i.e. make the 3-ptr etc)…

Honest to God, my new Life Mantra is: WWTBD

    (What Would Tom Brady Do?)

He’s basically the new Jesus, Lol

Tom Brady is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

    Amen.

there are no super teams in the playoffs, all have some flaws and struggled at various points in the season. rams lost 3 straight, Dallas was stumbling, Arizona was number one seed then fell way down the list, Green Bay is the cleanest going in.

sometimes one can focus in on the weaknessrs because we watch all the bucs games and see the good, bad and ugly. all i can say is the ugly was way worse before last year. enjoy the ride. we got other guys besides AB.

“Hoping the team turns the AB drama into a unifying us against the world moment giving the Bucs a bit more juice.” AMEN !!

  18. BrooklynBucsFan Says:

Great story, to me it’s an example of Cyril behaving like a mature young man, taking responsibility for his mistakes, then working hard to improve… if only all the players that were on our team had the character to take adversity like responsible adults and improve themselves. And I suspect Cyril is also earning himself some money along the way, go get payed young man!

  19. rrsrq Says:

I do find it interesting that the chemistry Brady had with OJ early last year and Scooter throughout the year has vanquished. When guys get hurt does it take a while to rebuild trust and chemistry. He even had succes throwing the ball to ROjO prior to the injury last year. Prior to this year ROjO had two 1000 yards from scrimmage years. We will see when Lenny comes back, of course we knew Gronk would eventually be a go to guy.

  20. SB~LV Says:

Sounds like he has natural hands and just needed to get up to speed with the intricacies of being a NFL WR…
    Massive accomplishment!

  21. Buczilla Says:

Licht bringing in Brady is the single greatest free agency pickup in nfl history and we are lucky to have both of them.

  22. Eddie Marz Says:

    Great story.👍 GOBUCS!

  23. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Brady saw the dent his pass made in his face mask when it went right thru his hands. He put some Sure Grip Goop on them and yelled at him ” I DON’T CARE IF IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE YOU JACKED AN ELEPHANT! YOU WILL CATCH THE BALL! By the way I believe in you kid. “

  24. John Says:

I’m from N.H. and have always been a N.E. fan still am but after the way Brady was treated I became a Bucs fan and if this team gets dialed in even with the recs. They have they can go all the way. I just wish the corners would stop playing so far off the line of scrimmage, they give up to many yards and first downs ,they should be in the recs. Faces playing bump and run get them off they’re routes maybe that would help them and stop missing tackles, they try to go for the ball go for the guy the ball will fall if you hit him right and maybe then they’re wont be so many missed tackles or getting burnt on some of these passing plays especially the short pass your giving them first downs by playing ten yards off the line get up there in they’re faces and bump them watch how much leverage it gives the Bucs corners I dont know why Arians doesn’t see this

  25. Jerry Strickland Says:

Go Bucs!! All your fans has confidence in all of you to get strong and tough in this regular season game and as you head into the playoffs. All the way Bucs to another Super Bowl 🏈 win!! Go Bucs!!!
