CBS: Tom Brady’s Decision “Imminent”

January 28th, 2022

Bucs QB Tom Brady.

It seems it won’t be long to learn if the Bucs will be quarterback hunting this winter or not.

Heavy metal-headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that sources close to Bucs quarterback Tom Brady’s direct orbit have stated an announcement is coming and it could be within a few days.

Several sources who are within Brady’s inner circle anticipate that he will most likely reveal his future plans in the coming days. Brady is a historian of the game, he understands what it takes for players and teams to reach this point in the season, and would not want to upstage the game itself in any way. Making an announcement the week leading up to the Super Bowl would not be his style, and waiting until after the Super Bowl, with the scouting combine then just weeks away, might begin to cut into the Buccaneers’ ability to pivot as an organization and readjust their plans for 2022 if it was now to not include arguably the greatest football player who ever lived.

The timeline adds up. In fact, Joe would not be surprised if someone from the league office, perhaps even NFL strongman Roger Goodell himself, reached out to Brady and asked him if he was going to announce a decision to do so either this coming week or wait until after the Super Bowl.

The NFL really, really frowns on teams or players making any sort of news that will keep people on radio row at the Super Bowl from talking about the Super Bowl.

The NFL is keenly aware of the power of hype and drama and strives for all of sports radio and the hollering shows on TV to talk non-stop Super Bowl the week of the game.

So if Brady makes his announcement in the next few days, that would add up to the NFL’s desired timeline.

La Canfora also thinks he’s retiring :/

  2. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

WTF….this sucks! All season I didn’t think this was going to be his last because of how great he was playing. I figured he would at least finish off his contract. I will forever be grateful Brady came to the Bucs though. I just want to watch him play in a Bucs uniform one more season. Please football Gods change Brady’s mind before he pulls the trigger. Go Bucs!

  3. HC Grover Says:

I hope Brady stays another year.

  4. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Retire please

Don’t waste your time with this franchise that’s about to become a dumpster fire because of too many good players on this roster.

Thanks for the Superbowl…..it was great while it last Tom.

  5. Gunnin4Ya Says:

La Cant-for-ya….is just that. Hack source. Reaches, never breaks anything of note. Ask yourselves, when’s the last last time La Cant-for-ya…broke anything that Schefter/Glazer/Florio…didn’t already.

Nevermind the phrase…”in the coming days” could be anytime…going forward. Days..are coming. For awhile.

Real sourcing, real stories, real conversation on here.

  6. Mort Says:

What a silly high school gossip report. It literally doesn’t matter as long as it’s before free agency.

  7. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Listen up here Bucs Fans/idiots faithfully, blindfully following the Wizard Brady…….he has nothing left to play for…..the Bucs cannot bring or retain all these good players for another year….it makes 100% zero sense for Brady to play another year….he’s done it all!!!

He’s done! Stick a fork in him!!!

  8. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Bucs fans better get used to again being bottom dwellers cellar fellas!!!

…..cause Kyle Trask for damn sure ain’t the Answer at QB!!!!

  9. Oxycodoms Says:

Doing so will help with the transition of signing rodgers

  10. T REX Says:

    waffles>>>>>football

    Thank you Tom.

This team is bad without him.

He covered up a lot of warts

  11. Bird Says:

    There is dics anthem

Yah. He is a football coach and a bucs fan
He really likes the bucs 😂
Dang troll who has never kissed a girl. No life

  12. Bird Says:

Dics Anthem once kissed a pigs bung hole cause he was told that meant he porked something

  13. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Oxy

I was going to mention Rodgers….but Rodgers would never come here and be compared to Tom Brady’s shadows every damn press conference!!!!

Futhermore…..this place will be a dumpster of a roster because they cannot keep all these good players here.

    Farewell Tom.

  14. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

Bucs anthem what is your problem? Why call people idiots for no reason. You have some serious issues buddy. Think before you speak.

  15. BillyBucco Says:

Anthem is clearly on the sauce.

  16. BuccaneerButters Says:

Say it ain’t so! I really would like one more year of Mr. Brady, but I understand that family is important… I think we can all agree that his potential retirement, is not coming from his skill or abilities, but family or personal reasons.

  17. Oxycodoms Says:

Would like to know why arians is staying if there isn’t something lined up

  18. Jersey buc Says:

We’ll unfortunately I think he is gone. I really thought he give it one more go but it’s sounded like a no more and more each day. I loves bowels but dam man costed us that game! DAM MAN! Let’s try to get Rodgers. Or Russ. Plan B would be carr for me

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve been a Bucs fans since the teams inception I hope Brady does whats best for him and not us. Get out while you are healthy man. You are a 1st ballot HOF.
Kick back and enjoy your family. I know I would.

  20. FrankPillow Says:

I doubt the GOAT will do the Commish any favors…

  21. Jerry R Jones Says:

I see Brady dancing with his entire family to The Clash.

  22. Mtbucsfan Says:

See this is why I was against Brady coming. The fact that I didn’t want to get used to feeling like an actual NFL franchise for the first time since 02. The sting of being great for 2 years to rebuilding complete again. Part of me still feels he will announce his retirement will be after 1 more year. If he does retire they better lower season ticket prices again because there will be a lot of non repeats. Hopefully we can get a great young qb to be with us for a long while. Go Bucs!

  23. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Bird,

Come on now man, Anthem has is fact kissed a girl.
I forget what his sister’s name is though.

  24. Buc4evr Says:

Thanks for the memories TB12. Back to the cellar of the NFL in the den of depression. And no Trask is not and never will be the answer.

  25. Architek Says:

All of a sudden the entitlement stops! ha

We Bucs fans became really spoiled – really fast!

Thank you Tom for transforming our franchise overnight!

Maybe these fans will learn some humility!

  26. Sparky Says:

Jason LaCanfora? Give me a break. Brady’s inner circle is more likely to talk to TMZ than him. Brady JUST said there was no rush. And there isn’t.

  27. Mr Bean Says:

Nonsense. Not retiring for a few more years.

  28. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Todd Bowels can add ending the career of Tom Brady to his list of accomplishments.

  29. Lesko_Brandon Says:

Another useless article to fill up space

  30. Posey99 Says:

“Bucs fans better get used to again being bottom dwellers cellar fellas!!!

…..cause Kyle Trask for damn sure ain’t the Answer at QB!!!!“

Dang these guys are back and Brady hasn’t even retired yet. Fortune telling wannabe Bucs fans. I’m sure you know more then the Bucs staff maybe you should write them a letter to let them know how bad Kyle trask is even though he hasn’t played a snap.

  31. steele Says:

Brady is a responsible professional who will not jeopardize the team’s ability to prepare for next season.

Should he have retired after winning the SB, at the top? That would have been ideal, but he loves the game, and believed—correctly—that the team would stay together and repeat. They fell short by just 8 quarters of football. But a third time? The list of needs is much longer.

  32. captivajim Says:

Brady said mid-season ; ‘winning was a relief” ,,,versus it felt great or even good.
    .
Brady said Malcolm Butler was his friend when Belicheat benched him in SB & then traded him; Brady lost respect for Bellicheat as he didn’t do right for the team.
Brady he considered AB his friend after Bucco got him to flip out ; Brady lost respect for Bucco as he didn’t do right FOR the team.
Brady has won a SB for 2 different teams in Different Conferences. He wanted another back-to-back Sb -but Bowles took chance that away ..
He put up the best QB numbers this year; most TD’s , most yyardage , etc .. All added to his career stats which will stand for a long time

Given salary cap issues facing Bucs; he’s not up for a rebuild or reload as some call it .
He’ll go out having played really well;; unlike Farve, Peyton, Eli , Namath ,Unitas,Romo, & his idol Joe Montana.. It will be on HIS terms-not because declining performance…

  33. adam from ny Says:

we are potentially going the trask route after brady for at least a 2 year experiment window…

after the current success, the owners can afford a downward trend for a minute before a rebuild because their money won’t drop off, but their spending during that time can ultimately taper off…

then if the experiments don’t work, they will at least know what talent they have on the team post brady, and go from there with a rebuild or another 10 year drought, like pre-tommy…

but now that we are the new “america’s team”, the glazers might be smart to instead want to stay the course, because they currently hold the slot, and who would have ever thought we’d ever become “that team”…

the ball will be in the glazer’s court after tommy departs – either to remain a powerhouse or become the old bucs again…

it will be interesting to see how it’s playing out in about 5 years

  34. captivajim Says:

Mid season Brady said : “wining is a relief” versus “great” or even “good”..
He had a great season, lead the league in QB stats : TD’s ,yardage , etc..
He wanted to go for back-to-back SB’s–but Bowles stopped that – 8 qtrs short .

He said Malcolm Butler was his friend after Bellicheat benched in SB and the traded him. Brady then lost respect 4 Bellicheat because it wasn’t the best for the TEAM.

He said he considered AB a friend after Bucco pushed him to flip out. Brady lost respect 4 Bucco because it wasn’t best for the TEAM.

Given salary cap issues going forward; Brady is Not interested is another rebuild or reload as Bucco calls it . Nor is Brady wanting a farewell tour.
Brady has played at a hi level thru last sunday-he can retire on his terms with head held high; unlike Farve , Romo, Unitas , Namath,Rotherlsberger, Peyton, Eli and his boyhood idol Joe Montana. And without lifelong injuries like Alex Smith.

  35. cmurda Says:

Dammit. I was hoping I was wrong. Brady transformed the culture in just 1 year but if we thought Licht was impressive putting together the team the last 2 years, he’s really going to earn his money keeping the winning culture going. I hope Trask shocks but he can’t really be our dude next year, can he? I’ve seen enough Gator QBs in the NFL to know to temper expectations.

  36. Bucs Guy Says:

100% zero sense? What are you on Anthem?

  37. Mitch Says:

Damn, it’s over. Gonna takes years and years to rebuild. No final epic run for another SB game next year, bros. Maybe in 4 or 5 years we’ll be ready again. We’ll see. TB12 was amazing. Too bad AB backstabbed him and the rest of the Bucs in the back or we might’ve had a great shot at the SB this season. Damn. So close yet so far.

  38. 1sparkybuc Says:

Hard to tell the Buc fans from the trolls these days. First off, I believe Brady will honor his contract and play. Second, Trask is not the enemy here. He’s part of the team. What’s the point in shooting him down at every opportunity? He’s not Brady. Nobody is, but what are the odds that he’s an upgrade over Winston? According to the “experts” on this board, that should be a slam dunk. Brady came to Tampa because of the wealth of talent Licht had accumulated in recent years. The same talent evaluators that made this team attractive to Brady picked Trask. I support them. I support Brady while he is still here. I support Trask for the same reason. We’ve seen rookie QBs make an impact in recent years. Trask is no longer a rookie, and no player in the league has had a better example of how to prepare and be ready. Trask has made a name for himself of being ready. Hopefully he has another year with Brady. Whenever it happens, I hope the transition is smooth.

  39. Trophybuc Says:

Tb12…retire…go to saints…if Payton comes back!!

  40. Franco Says:

85” tv , out the door.

  41. EA Says:

Oh yeah Goodell….Bradys favorite person…..Brady would bend over backwards for that guy. Brady is playing another 2 years at least, think about how much he has invested in football and his physical preparation, he said he feels great physically at the end-game presser….Brady said he’d play until he can’t help a team win anymore.
Not sure why this retirement chatter picked up steam last game of the season.
Think about some of the recent great QBs that have retired, Manning brothers, Brees, Big Ben they all declined big time their last season, the writing was on the wall.
Bottom line is Brady is invested too much in football to just walk away from the game of football while he is still feeling great.
I don’t buy these stories for one second, they are all attention grabbing click bates.
The GOAT will not retire this year.

  42. DaBux Says:

I just saw a story where his QB assistant is looking for a job. I think the fun era is over and the rebuild begins. I just hope that Trask took a lot of notes. He’s got potential, but he’s totally an unknown quantity at the pro level. With the situation at WR now being exposed, re-signing Godwin has to happen plus Jensen.

  43. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

If you can still perform at the most elite level (which TB12 obviously can) a player will not walk away , because the only regrets a legend might have is leaving the game when you are still the best QB in the league and watching the playoffs for the next few years knowing that you and your teammates could have beaten all of them. These are the kind of regrets you do not want to have and Brady knows this and will NOT RETIRE.

  44. Biff Barker Says:

I’m disappointed that Leftwich wasn’t able to teach Trask his lightning quick release!

  45. Jeff Says:

He gone, folks! Your girl has broken up with you and is never coming back

  46. Kev@Inverness Says:

Not surprised that TheBucsAnthem has decided to come out of hiding now. Where ya been, loser?

  47. Tweb Says:

Why can’t his pending announcement over the coming days be he plans to play one more year.

Technically he is under contract. If he plans to play he doesn’t need to say anything publicly.

If he retires this franchise goes to hell in a hand basket very quickly! Even when we are on top it sucks being a Bucs fan sometimes.

  48. LakelandSteve Says:

La Canfora said no one around him has heard Brady say he is retiring. La Canfora said people around Brady believe that is what he is going to do by what he is saying and acting like. However, when is the last time La Canfora has ever broken anything about Brady or anyone else for that matter that was significant. He has a 50/50 chance that he is right and if he is he can add that to his resume. If he is wrong he can go back and say, I broke this saying no one has actually heard Brady say he is going to retire. Maybe he is right but I have to see and hear the R word come out of Brady’s mouth before I will believe it.

  49. Erick Says:

This is all a power play from Brady. He doesn’t want to play for Arians anymore, and I can’t really blame him.

  50. DarenGibo Says:

Now, before I get crucified, let me start by saying I am NOT comparing Brady and Trask……

BUT, I distinctly remember MY opinion when Bledsoe got injured and then lost his job to this Brady dude… I told my buddy, are they NUTS??? Who the hell is Brady? He didn’t even do much at Michigan… the Pats will regret this….

Needless to say, I could not have been more wrong in my assessment.

All I am saying is it is complete nonsense to say Trask is NEVER going to be the answer because we have NEVER EVEN SEEN HIM IN A REAL GAME!!

Again, repeating, not comparing him to Brady, just comparing the scenarios…

As for me and my household we will always be thankful for this 2 year run as they don’t happen often and it was AMAZING! Hoping for one more year!

  51. Proud Bucs Fan Says:

Brady does not to play with Arians as head coach. Brady found out how sloppy and undisciplined he really is. Brady liked for himself and gronk being a players coach. But the lack of professionalism and preparation, with sloppy discipline has really exposed these coaches, and Brady now knows that he cannot cover up for how bad Arians actually is.

  52. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Trask will be fime-see him putting up 46 on Bama in SEC championship in 2020. Trask must be elevated to #2 when Brady returns as Gabbert never was and never will be the successor to TB12.

  53. Bird Says:

    Whoops. Wrong discussion

Buc Anthem likes mum poo. Whoops man poo

  54. Rich Weeks Says:

Brady is not retiring..Joe why do you allow the trolls on this site? This should be for real buc fans to read and have fun commenting..Its the same 3 or 4 trolls that love piss people off..Joe please let us enjoy this..

I have to think if Brady does retire ,Jason will do what he can to bring in another good quarterback..we have money to keep most of the offense together..jason has been drafting very good the last few years.

Guys this team is relevant. I have to believe Jason and Bruce want to keep it that way..as a REAL Bucs fan I can’t wait to start free agency and the draft. We won our division and a superbowl with Brady.if he does retire I am going to be very appreciative of what he has done to change the culture of this team! To you trolls out there, please go back to your Saints team and allow us to enjoy our Buccaneers

  55. Tony1775 Says:

    Though we drafted our QB………

  56. LVMYBUCS Says:

So stupid guess what my birthday is Imminent also me eating dinner is Imminent we all know TB decision is Imminent idiot.

  57. 99.97.92.55.47.40.28.20.7 Says:

There is no way he announces retirement between now and super bowl. Retiring 2 weeks before super bowl will still dominate the news cycle through super bowl. If he announces anything before the super bowl, it will be that he’s staying.

  58. Listnfrmafar Says:

Didn’t I summarize this in the Tony Romo post? On the other hand, it’s not like Brady owes Goodell anything. Can you say deflategate? If he reveals his future sooner that later, it’s out of respect for the Bucs and their fans, no Goodell.

  59. Bird Says:

    Im not kidding

Bucs anthem new twitter handle is:

  60. SB~LV Says:

    Que Será, Será

  61. Mr Bean Says:

@DarenGibo – comparing the Bledsoe/Brady situation to the Brady/Trask situation is like saying you bought a lottery ticket 20 years ago and won the jackpot. So now you bought another ticket hoping for the jackpot. Can it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Extremely unlikely.

  62. New England Patriots Fan Says:

This entire week leading up to the Conference Championship games, nearly all talk radio, TV media and YouTube football media, has only spoken about Brady, Rodgers (futures), Payton-Cowboys coaching, Ben retiring and still even some AB talk. No one outside their markets even cares about a Burrow, Jimmy G, Stafford storylines. Mahomes was already anointed the new face of the NFL 2 years ago. There is a massive star power drain in the NFL, it is reaching a point the new QBs are not even that good or interesting at all. The old guard is just leaving and not being replaced (they need a modern replacement characters for the Manning, Brady, Ben, Brees, Farve, Rodgers roles.) People need heels and faces to root for and relate to in small odd way. The closest thing to a star in the NFL I have even cared about since Tom left New England is Josh Allen, but because he’s in the Buffalo market he will never be allowed to win, like the Bills of yesteryear, he is just built up to put over Mahomes.

  63. Christina Says:

Bucs fans suck so bad lol always so negative smh

  64. WVBuc Says:

The front office knows everything about selling souls for victories and if Brady retires, they’ve got his replacement sitting in Houston. Deshaun Watson in exchange for whatever…how about Devin White and a 1st round pick?

  65. D-Rok Says:

I am selfishly praying that Brady returns. I can appreciate that he wants to take at least a few weeks and ponder his future, accounting for his family’s wishes and what he thinks this team might be next year. After watching his stellar play for over 2 decades, he’s earned the right to determine his future. I will accept any decision he makes as being the right one for him, and I will patiently wait for his official announcement. Life is too short to get too hyped up or worried over “reports.” When it comes from Brady’s mouth, I will know it’s real. Until then, as a fan, I can only hope he comes back and hope we have a competitive team next year.

    As always, GO BUCS!!

  66. bucsfanfromNE Says:

Me, for one have no interest in keeping the band together,, draft, free agents,, get some new blood in here,,sign Godwin,a de , corner, keep the core group,, get rid of the garbage,,1 more wr ect,I think he’ll be back,, Brady, still not that far off for another run

  67. THOMAS PFALZ Says:

Just one more year Tom, please. Afterall retiring at 46 you have the rest of your life with wife & kids without playing football. Who knows you may want to be a HC or GM some day like John Lynch. No matter what you decide best to you & yours.

  68. Smashsquatch Says:

He’s playing. He set a goal to play to age 45. He’s 44, healthy, and still playing at a high level. Next season will be his last year, he’ll announce it before the season begins, and soak up the love on his farewell tour.

  69. firethecannons Says:

I liked the idea if Brady retires that Bucs go after Derek Carr he is decent enough and would perform well I think in Arians offense
