Bucs Will Face Winner Of The Rams-Cardinals Game On Monday Night

January 16th, 2022

It’s official.

The 49ers knocked off the Cowboys tonight to knock out the No. 3 seed in Dallas. What a beautiful sight! Joe is fired up.

So the 49ers, the lowest remaining NFC seed at No. 6, are now guaranteed to face top-seeded Green Bay next weekend.

That means the Bucs (No. 2) will face the winner of Monday nights Cardinals-Rams game in Los Angeles.

Joe will take having a west coast team coming to Tampa on a short week (almost certainly a Sunday night game). That should be an advantage every time.

Yeah, the Bucs have trouble with the Rams’ ability to rush the quarterback with four down linemen, but Tom Brady against Matt Stafford or Kyler Murray is a matchup Joe prefers versus taking Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ No. 1-ranked offense.

  1. Lamarcus Says:

Az and LA aren’t no powerhouse either. BUCS should beat any of those 2

  2. AbucAway Says:

When Tampa wins next Sunday and if the 49ers win, will the NFC Championship game be played in Tampa Bay?

    LFG!

  3. Mort Says:

Oh man what a finish. I can already taste the salty tears from Dallas all the way up here in OK! Let’s F’ing Go!

  4. HC Grover Says:

What a crazy ending. Now I hope the Steelers win.

  5. tbbucs3 Says:

    Lets go Cards!

  6. Bird Says:

    Cmon cards then 😂

49ers will give all packers can take. They do need bosa and wagner playing though. Both left game and did not return Even with jimmie g. They are talented and especially well coached.

And we handle business at home

    Could be epic

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Rams are a bad matchup for the Bucs, as we know if you’ve watched the last 2 games vs the Rams. Lets go Cardinals!

  8. SB Says:

I would rather have the Cards

  9. Jerry Says:

Personally I would have rather played the Cowboys. They are a mess. 15 penalties?

Would not want to play LA. We don’t match up well with them, despite Stafford sucking lately.

  10. HC Grover Says:

I think Lynch an his Ninnies can beat the Pack.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

If the 49ers are healthy, if they didn’t lose half their defense to injuries, they stand a good chance of beating the Packers – only the Bucs and 49ers can beat the Packers in my opinion, and ideally the 49ers will take them out and give the Bucs another home game.

But the Bucs have to take care of business in any case or they won’t be going anywhere. But this team, at home, in the afternoon and early evening kickoffs, is tough to beat.

BTW, it hasn’t rained in a while until today, and early forecast for next Sunday… rain. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though, I doubt the forecast holds, but just something to note if you’re doing any early betting.

  12. Oxycodoms Says:

Vonn miller or aaron donald line up against wells? Yikes

  13. stpetebucsfan Says:

Now that we’re past the first round I’m not dwelling much on our next opponent.

It really doesn’t matter. ALL of the remaining teams are good enough to beat us.
The good news is that if we play our A game we’re good enough to beat anybody left.

When is the MVP vote? Has it been cast or does it wait till after the playoffs?

If it’s after the playoffs I’m rooting for Jimmy G big time!!! Not only will we get home field advantage for a meeting between two teammates…teacher and protege…but Aaron Rodgers hopefully will get humiliated!!!

  14. Listnfrmafar Says:

9ers best 2 D players went down today especially Boza. Need them healthy to knock off GB. Last time Bucs played Rams they didn’t have Von Miller, he has always gave Brady fits when he played for Denver. Rather see AZ even with Watt.

  15. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

49ers beat GB in GB then we win next week then 49ers play us in RayJ for NPC Championship

  16. David Says:

Definitely going to be a Sunday game since they play Monday night. One extra day of recovery – advantage Buccaneers. All season I’ve been thinking they’re going to have to beat the Rams and Packers so I still think it’s going to be the Rams.

Buccaneers score a little more and give up a little less, yards and points per game.

Pressure against Stafford equals turnovers. Stop the run, get after quarterback, it’s the same formula for the front every game. Just like with Smith today, try to take Kupp out. Force Stafford to not look at him 15 times a game and they can probably force turnovers

  17. BradyBucs Says:

    RAMS? NO THANK YOU.

They’re just a bad matchup for us. Would rather play the Cards all day.

Let’s hope the Niners can knock off the Packers.

  18. cmurda Says:

@Rod. To be fair. We still are very good against the run with the big horses on D back. Rain would hurt the Rams and Cards also. Both depend on throwing the ball. I feel pretty confident regardless considering I just watched Brady work like an elite surgeon on a windy, rainy field.

  19. Timbucs2 Says:

I would’ve preferred the Cowboys. They’re overrated, racking up points against the pathetic NFC LEast.

    Oh well, next!

  20. cmurda Says:

The entire Bucs Nation unanimously wants the Rams to lay an egg tomorrow. No doubt that we would rather play the Cards

  21. snookman Says:

    In 2020:

The Saints…………a bad match up for the Bucs
The Packers at home with rodgers MVP………..Bad matchup for the Bucs
The Chiefs explosive offense…………..bad matchup for the Bucs……

    11-5 and 3 road playoff games…………..bad matchups………………….

It doesnt matter………we have teh GOAT

  22. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Thrilled we get the Monday night winner, who will undoubtedly be tired. We’ll beat either of these teams. Stafford is Stafford. Murray has no playoff experience. So happy it ain’t the Cowboys!

  23. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

Stafford is like Ted Striker he cracks under pressure!!! Bring em on!!

  24. Francisco Guzman Says:

Whoever they face the bucs are gonna need more than evans and gronk.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Alvin – Good note, since the game is on MNF, that means our game is definitely going to be on Sunday, not Saturday. So Packers/49ers on Saturday, probably prime-time, and Bucs/whoever, likely in the afternoon spot on Sunday.

  26. Chimichango Says:

I think the Cards are the better matchup for the Bucs. Ramsey had locked up Evens in the past and Brady seems to be relying on him a lot more since Godwin went down. They can just put a LB and safety on Gronk. Plus Donald on a banged up Jensen and an iffy Wirfs agains von Miller? I think I’d take my chances with ARZ. That’s just me though.

  27. Miller5252 Says:

Stephen A with BSPN has gotta be making an epic video for them cowboys fans! What the heck was with that last play they called?!?! Jones might be looking for a new coach tomorrow after that call! I’m more worried about the Rams then the birds, birds seem like the Steelers last year…. Hot up front but fell apart at the end of the year. What a great day for the Bucs!!

  28. Rod Munch Says:

If you want an audio treat, I highly suggest you go seek out some Eagles podcasts and sports talk radio with physco callers. If you go podcast, don’t get the professional garbage, get the fans podcast, that’s where they’ll be crying and whinning the most. Also if you need even more audio content, check those podcasts for the ones where they’re talking about how they’re going to beat-up the Bucs, and if you have the time, listen to those first, then the follow-up from today, back to back, that stuff just entertains me like nothing else.

  29. Tye Says:

Not to concerned with either Rams or Cards…
Be nice to see the Steelers get the upset…
even nicer if the 9ers send the Packers home next week…

  30. Rod Munch Says:

The more I think about it… the NFL is really going to want the Packers/49ers in Sunday prime-time to get the biggest ratings, that’s going to be a huge draw I think. If say it’s Cards @ Bucs, I wonder if the NFL really would screw over the Cards and make them play a Saturday game. I can’t imagine they’d do that, but they’re giving up some huge Sunday ratings by not having that Packers/49ers game on Sunday.

No way the NFL would do that to the Cards, would they?

  31. bucschamp Says:

didn’t Stafford had a toe injury last time? their last few games isn’t impressive.

  32. SPARKY Says:

At this time of the playoffs it doesn’t matter much who you play. If you play good sound football you can beat anybody. You play bad, you’re gonna get beat. Best news yet is I haven’t heard the word hamstring tonite.

  33. DaBux Says:

Go Cards! I’d rather not face the LA cheap shot artists.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

The way the Cowboys looked today I dissapointed we arent playing them.

  35. Francisco Guzman Says:

If they can’t beat the rams they don’t deserve the super bowl. Rams haven’t played in almost idk how many games. They haven’t been good.

  36. BucsFan81 Says:

I bet the cardinals win tomorrow. I can see the storyline now BA faces former team. I also think if the 49ers are healthy they beat Greenbay.

  37. HC Grover Says:

I want the Damn Rams. I want the Bucs to clobber em in Tampa.

  38. Richard Dickson Says:

I honestly would rather have that trainwreck of a Cowboys team we just saw, but yeah, gimme the Cards over the Rams.

  39. Gunnin4Ya Says:

    Content here…and title. All…the above.

Thanks, captain OBVIOUS. Everyone in sports media, including all of us, knew ahead of time, that lowest remaining seed going into the games this weekend, would then play highest remaining seed next weekend. Hence 49ers as a #6 seed winning, playing #1 seed, idle.

    People…maybe…likely…tune in for…NEWS.

    Work. On. It.

  40. HC Grover Says:

Just so the Bucs are not on stinking NBC networks.

  41. Brett Says:

Bucs haven’t matched up well against the rams. Sort of like the Saints. Arizona looked like the best team in the NFL for a lot of weeks. Not sure who I want Bucs to face.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

RAMS havent matched up against the GRAVEDIGGERS yet.

    Bring! Them! On!

    We will whoop their ass!!

  43. HC Grover Says:

Rams have to come to us to get sheared.

  44. August 1976 Buc Says:

The Rams dominated the line of scrimmage in week 3 this year.
The Bucs took a beating, the score could have been worse.
It was the first time in a while that the Bucs got dominated on the line of scrimmage, both sides of the ball. If you think I am crazy, just go back and watch on NFL gamepass, Not fun

    Bring on the Cards

BTW, the 9ers are not an easy out for GB. We have seen the last couple of years. When they played this year, SF could have easily won.

So hoping for a NFC title tilt in Tampa.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  45. Buc4evr Says:

Not the Rams, Arizona would be a better matchup, but not sure the Cardinals can beat the Rams again. Should be a close game and the hope here is that they both beat each other up.

  46. JimmyJack Says:

The Bucs did exactually what a true contender does to a #7 team.

Meanwhile the Chiefs havent been the same ever sinse Winfield flashed them the peace sign. The only thing keeping them in the game is how terrible Ben Rothlisberger is in his old age.

  47. Tom Says:

Dang… playing the Cowboys would have been greatly preferred. They looked terrible.

Oh well, gotta hope the Cards upend the Rams!

  48. Jerry Says:

Cardinals have been on a downward trend for over a month losing 4 of the last 5 games. But Stafford has looked horrible the last few weeks. Depends which team wants it more. But if I were to bet, I’d bet on the Rams to win tomorrow.

The problem with facing the Rams is the match-ups. Its a bad matchup for us. And we now have concerning injuries on the OL. Our entire offense only works when it keeps Brady clean and he has time. We are going to have trouble with that Rams DL, especially if Wirfs is out. I don’t know what the Bucs will do, but Josh Wells is not going to stop Aaron Donald. That’s a massive mis-match right there. Then all they have to do is neutralize Gronk and Evans and it will be the 9-0 Saints loss all over again.

  49. SPARKY Says:

Watching this late game, if you play 2 deep safties against Mahomes so he can’t just throw the ball out there as far as he can and let Hill outrun everybody to it, he ain’t near as dangerous.

  50. Swampbuc Says:

This one up is easy. Go Cardinals.

  51. Sc.Bucs fan Says:

Let’s hope the winner tomorrow night gets beat up

  52. Oneilbuc Says:

That’s why I believe ain’t no quarterback is worth a 100 million dollars regardless what the media say !! If Brady would have taken that kind of money he wouldn’t have 7 superbowls !

  53. Miller5252 Says:

They’re saying JJ Watt might be back for the birds tomorrow. If they win, we really need to have Wirfs at his best. I know Watt is no where near what he used to be, but after watching Wells today he’ll be at Bradys feet all game long.

  54. David Says:

Cappa, Jensen, Wirfs (who will be back), handled Donald and Miller before and they’ll do it again.
No doubt in my mind the Buccaneers put up 30+ again. The key is the defense. Double up Kupp and stop Sony. Take that away and Stafford will press and he will turn it over.

Lenny should be back as well even though Vaughn and Bernard were excellent today.

  55. David Says:

When the season began I felt Packers and Rams were going to be the biggest problem but I just don’t think the Rams are going to travel here and win.

  56. JimmyJack Says:

Oniel so do you think the Bills made mistake with Josh Allen?

What do you think they should of done? Start over, maybe bring in Fitzmagic for competition? Hahaha

  57. Oxycodoms Says:

Bucs and chiefs shouldve had a bye. Eagles and steelers dont need to be in the playoffs

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Well that was a fun first half. Steelers had their chanses and couldnt even get a first down, let alone score.

Chiefs offense is gonna score at least twice in the second half. I dont even like the Steelers to get a FG.

  59. JimmyJack Says:

Fans are crying from one end of Pennsylvania to the other.

The few that live in the State that arent Eagles or Steeler like the Browns. Gotta love it!

  60. SPARKY Says:

I dunno, I dont mind Gio as our 3 down back instead of Lenny. Maybe a little quicker and better hands. Just hope we don’t wake up tomorrow and hear about a bunch of hamstrings hurting. Pull something else boys.

  61. Doctor Stroud Says:

Part of me wants the Bucs to face the Rams, just because they have been the thorn in our side for the past couple of games but also because I’m still bitter about those NFC Championship games in 1980 and 2000.

  62. Tom Says:

    David –

Nice story. But the Cards are gonna win tomorrow night. So we’ll be alright.

  63. firethecannons Says:

Joe agreed! no way would I want to see Cowboys pass offense playing our defense thinking the Cards will take the Rams

  64. orlbucfan Says:

Josh Allen is scary good. But $100M? No player is worth that much. Glad the Mighty Bucs Defense is getting healthy and revving up. Wirf getting injured—not good.

  65. Coburn Says:

I feel more worried about wirfs than our opponent. I feel it we have a shaky right tackle we may really struggle…if we have wirfs and he’s able to play even 80% we have a chance with whoever..but we will do our best with short passing games, running, maybe a few shots with extra blockers in. We will see. We still got Brady, Evans, Gronk. Our d should be full strength. See if Kenny and/or Rojo Baxk, but the other two did great today

  66. SPARKY Says:

Goodbye Ben, it’s been fun watching you play. Your team could of saved you the embarrassment by not making the playoffs
On that point, adding 2 more teams to the playoffs has made for some bad games
Neither Pennsylvania team belonged there. Or New England for that matter.

  67. Natron Says:

This will be Ben Roethlisberger’s last football game, and maybe Mike Tomlin’s too, as a Steeler coach anyway

  68. Francisco Guzman Says:

Coburn maybe he can get taped up and give it a go. I feel like the Bucs are gonna need more than evans and gronk to win. Gonna need a 3rd wideout to step up.

  69. Rod Munch Says:

Damn, Dak just made me a huge fan – he praised fans throwing stuff at the refs. I hate when refs blow a game and the players just say stupid like ‘we have to win it anyways’ – however, in this case, Dak is the screw-up, the refs actually called it correctly.

Still, Dak agreeing with stoning is pretty awesome. I don’t want to like any Cowboys player, and the moron just make me a fan of his. Dang it.

  70. Rod Munch Says:

If I’m the Steelers, and you can’t pull off a trade for someone like Russell Wilson, or even Matt Ryan, I’m calling Jameis. Seems like a natural fit. It’s a pocket based offense that needs a QB with a big arm who isn’t afraid to make plays, and who can make some mistakes, so long as they also score points. I’m surprised his name doesn’t come up since it seems like you could drop him right into that offense and he’d do really well.

  71. Izod Says:

I don’t see the Bucs beating either Arizona or LA because they are both loaded with talent. The Bucs haven’t beaten anybody convincingly except teams that are inferior in talent.

  72. Buc1987 Says:

Izod…the Bucs are loaded with talent too.

  73. SPARKY Says:

Wow, Ben was right, they don’t stand a chance. To bad the Chargers didn’t get in
    . Poor Ben

  74. Francisco Guzman Says:

IZod the Bucs are home but i feel they’re gonna need more from the other wideouts. The defense will play well. I have confidence in that.

  75. Snookman Says:

3 pm sunday Bucs vs Rams

  76. Jerry Says:

Game time will be Sunday at 3. Bucs just announced it on Twitter.

  77. BucsFan81 Says:

3pm Sunday against the Rams or Cardinals.

  78. Francisco Guzman Says:

Packers 4.5 favorites against the 49ers . I think i might take the 49ers and those points. Bosa needs to play for the 49ers. Packers won’t know what hit them. They have been so fortunate .

  79. Francisco Guzman Says:

    It went up 5.

  80. Coburn Says:

Guzman yeah for sure they will need other contributors. I actually feel less worried about Brady bringing out the best in backup receivers as I am about if he’s under more pressure because of a weak line in the oline. Was like they said at beginning of game.

  81. Rod Munch Says:

3pm Sunday is perfect, Bucs are unbeatable at home on Sunday afternoons, average nearly 40 points a game.

  82. Rod Munch Says:

Francisco – It’s hard to take the 49ers without knowing their health. But if they got everyone on defense, they could give the Packers a really hard time. Up until the end of that Dallas game, I’d have picked the 49ers to beat the Packers, but that defense was garbage down the strech without Bosa.

  83. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch the 49ers where still getting pressure wihtout bosa and their secondary played well.

Rodgers is a great frontrunner. Niners can’t start slow in that game. They did in the early game and that cost them even though they came back and lost in the end by a fg. The niners match up very well against them.

  84. Crickett Baker Says:

Personally, I would be really surprised if any of those teams can beat the Packers. I am not even certain that we can, with who we have playing..

  85. Rod Munch Says:

Francisco – 49ers aren’t winning if they’re missing Bosa, he’s way too important of a player to them, and the Packers, while being ridiculously lucky to face teams having major injuries every week, are still an elite team. I’d love to see them take out the Packers just so the Bucs get another home game, assuming they can beat the Cards/Rams.

  86. bucs Says:

I also prefer Cardinals but rams also ok. Brady is a different animal in the playoffs unlike Stafford.

  87. TF Says:

Man either team is dangerous. But I personally will take my chances with the Rams for sure. We know them more and I’m sure Bowles will come up with an amazing defensive game plan! It’s really hard for a non Saints team to beat us twice in a year. And let’s face it, Stafford will fold under our pressure. I can’t wait to see the most annoying Coach in the NFL (Mcvay) NOT sprinting down the sidelines looking for people to chest bump since they will be getting spanked. He is a tool. And I think Kyler Murray is mobile and waaaayy too dangerous. So I’m leaning Rams tonight.

  88. Mike Johnson Says:

Would rather we face AZ. The Rams might be tougher for us. AZ has a mobile QB. But I think we bettter game plan for him.

  89. Not-A-Rams Fan Says:

I sure hope the Bucs win, but can’t see it happening.

The Bucs have suffered too many injuries, and with a beat up O-Line, there is no way they can protect Brady from a vicious pass rush. Even when healthy, they could not beat a Goff led Rams team in Tampa! And the Rams are now much better than when they beat the Bucs earlier this year.

Even though Bowels is a great D coordinator, he has no answer for the Rams offense.
