Bruce Arians Whacked $50,000 For His Whack On Andrew Adams

January 19th, 2022

Dinged by NFL.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians is a bit lighter in the wallet today.

The veteran head coach (remember, he coached for Bear Bryant) got fined by NFL strongman Roger Goodell a grand total of $50,000 for walking onto the field Sunday and whapped backup safety Andrew Adams in the helmet.

Arians said he did this to prevent Adams from getting a 15-yard penalty. There was a hassle Sunday in front of the Bucs’ bench where Arians saw Adams trying to pull guys off a pile. On video, it looked like Adams was woofing at an Eagles player as well.

Arians noted that the refs will quickly hit a player with a personal foul for pulling guys off a pile. That’s the job for the zebras. Arians said he had seen enough “dumb” and attempted to prevent Adams from getting flagged. The ploy worked.

The NFL, however, has strict rules that a coach cannot put his hands on a player or referee. hence the fine, per Adam Schefter of BSPN.

The way Joe looks at it, $50,000? Hell, Arians could make that up and make a lot more just sitting down for an hour to cut a commercial for a sponsor.

By the way Bruce, Joe knows of a sponsor or two that would love to work with you in some way to help you out in your time of need. You know how to get a hold of Joe directly. Joe is here to help.

my guess is Andrew Adams will be in another uniform next year…

  2. Robert Says:

worth it. he deserved a smack in the head. and don’t give me that it was disrespectful bull

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

It was not Woody Hayes going berserk, but was over the top by BA. All BA had to do was grab Adams by the Jersey and yell/ scream/ talk, all the above. Something Arians does most likely every time they are on the practice field lol.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. buddy Says:

Didn’t former Bucs asst coach Jimmy Lake get fired from Univ of Washington for the same act?? Looks like it from the video I saw of his incident.

  5. crazyBucs_CL Says:

remember Schiano…everybody was complaining how he was treated “adult millionaire players”??
    BA is an idiot too…

  6. JGhotier Says:

If you watch the Ryan Jensen Mic’d up video, BA slaps Jensen on the helmet on the sidelines too (the exact same way and force he does AA) and nobody says anything about it.

Surprised “Drama” Jenna Laine didn’t try to make that a story too 😂 that’s her forte

Makes me appreciate those reporters that actually cover the GAME of Football and not all the extra jazz. It’s not only that Jenna decides to cover it, she makes it a priority almost every single time. Nevermind, her line of questioning and questions she asks on the regular at the PC’s.

Is there a worst Bucs Reporter award given out?!

2022 – where a Coach’s slap to a Player’s helmet will cost you…and be made a bigger deal of than it really is. So silly!

  7. Joe Says:

    JGhotier:

Drama is good. The NFL recognized this decades ago and actually encourages it.

Without drama, you have virtually no following. You know, like checkers.

  8. Buc4evr Says:

    Woke nfl ..

  9. David Crum Says:

I’d like to hear Adams comment on it. I am pretty sure it’s nothing though.
It’s harmless crap blown out of proportion. Adams was about to go after someone or try to pull someone off a pile, either way it would have resulted in a 15 yard penalty.
Bruce decided that didn’t sit well with him, especially after Carlton Davis ripped his helmet off and went running up the field earlier getting a stupid 15 yard penalty

  10. Sparky Says:

He shouldn’t have done it, but its also not a big deal. Pay the fine, forget it. Its a non-story.

  11. John Collins Says:

What? Players are tapped on the head every play somewhere on the field. Now you get reduction points for style

  12. JGhotier Says:

    Joe,

She’s over the top w/ it and excessive. There’s a balance to it. As you Joe(s) have yourselves and I appreciate. “Drama is good” is a pretty blanketed statement though and not always the case. There’s negatives and positives and good and bad to all things in life…..Football included. Drama can be good, yes.

Also, what’s the difference and why nothing is said about the slap to Ryan Jensen’s helmet on the sideline, but this slap gets way too much attention?

I get it, you’re in the field too. I didn’t expect you to agree w/ me in the slightest or say anything regarding her whatsoever. I know how it works. It’s all good.

Go take a look in ALL the Bucs PC videos on YouTube….she’s universally not liked by Bucs fans and others and for many different reasons.

  13. JGhotier Says:

All the comments *** in the Bucs PC videos on YouTube (correction)

  14. Pancake block Says:

It’s not like he “woody Hayes’d” him

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah Adams is in real tough shape after having to deal with a 70-year old man hit his helmet… this was very needed.

    What a bunch of cupcakes.

Arians should go in today and slug Adams in the face, get his moneys worth.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Bruce got caught up in the heat of the moment. And I’m sure he has said something to the player to clear things up. YEs, he probably should have done like Todd Bowles and pulled the guy aside. But we can all say this after,,the incident. We got bigger problems heading our way come Sunday. Adams can make up for it then.

  17. NotTampaTom Says:

At what about Aaron “Kung Fu Panda” Donald choking folks

  18. Beastmode2021 Says:

Wait, wasn’t TB jabbing in the same game? Oh BA knows if he hits him that will end his career. Regardless if some of you felt it was a “tap” or not, BA looked like he had his mouth balled up when he swung on Adams. He meant that!!! Keep your hands off that grown man!!!!

  19. Swampbuc Says:

[That’s not very nice. — Joe]

  20. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

This just in….”Andrew Adams has agreed to re-structure his contract….”

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s funny how generations view this. I grew up in a time where if you were disrespectful or out of line, you might get whacked. In nature, when animals step out of line they get nipped or bopped. You learn that doing what you did gets you whacked and as a result don’t want to get whacked anymore so you stop doing what you did. We called it “learning”.
Today, my parents would be in jail!
It’s a rule, he broke it and got fined. I don’t have to agree with it. And frankly, I think these new generations could use a little more “learning”!
In my eyes, a total non-issue.

  22. VSyl Says:

Arians’ hand was probably much more sore than Adams’ head after that smack…

  23. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Great idea about the endorsement deal, Joe!

Guys sitting in Big Storm and every time someone orders a Bud Light or Coors Light, BA walks up, hits the guy in the back of the head and says “Don’t be stupid! Order a Big Storm!”

  24. Casual Observer Says:

    Excessive fine.

  25. Ron Says:

*** Kinda looks like AB was right about BA! AB was wrong gor taking off his jersey the way he did…..but BA handled that wrong. If AB was complaining about not getting balls…BA could hv just let him sit and talked to him after the game. But he yelled at him told him to leave.

BA….these are not college kids..your children or slaves…u can’t put your hands on these people and you can’t fire anybody.

These are grown men with families and friends that look up to them.
What if that MANS YOUNG SON SAW YOU HIT HIS DAD LIKE HE WAS A CHILD??

BA….Adapt to this new league or get out!!

  26. Joe Says:

Also, what’s the difference and why nothing is said about the slap to Ryan Jensen’s helmet on the sideline, but this slap gets way too much attention?

Joe never saw the Jensen incident. Key here is Adams was on the field of play (and equally important, FOX cameras caught it and broadcast it to a national audience). From what you describe, Jensen was not.

  27. Joe Says:

Great idea about the endorsement deal, Joe!

Guys sitting in Big Storm and every time someone orders a Bud Light or Coors Light, BA walks up, hits the guy in the back of the head and says “Don’t be stupid! Order a Big Storm!”

    🙂

  28. Bojim Says:

BA was just trying to get his attention quickly. It worked. No biggie. It was a good smack.

  29. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

Par for the course in the woke NFL. Adams needed a smack on the head.

I hear next year players will have to put their pronouns on the back of their helmets.

  30. TiredBucsFan Says:

    Ridiculous

  31. mark2001 Says:

I can understand the fine because he broke the rule. 50 g to Arians…no big deal…the Glazers can write him a check to cover that any minute in some “bonus clause”.

That being said, when you consider the sport we are talking about, it is pretty much hogwash. I’m sure Adams would rather get that slap on the helmet than be cut from the team this week for a stupid penalty. Personally I think it rather silly to make a big deal out of it.

  32. mark2001 Says:

What next…fines for cursing? Flashback… Warren, you used a curse word when having your knees cut by that O lineman…heaven forbid. Who would have thought? Time for tea and crumpets with the two competing teams, to show good sportsmanship, after a hard fought game.

  33. Jmarkbuc Says:

I’m sure that fine will be paid with the loose change from under the Glazers sofa cushions.

Joe is right.. if it hadn’t been caught on TV nothing comes of it, and it shouldn’t now. It’s a sport where grown men hit each other for a living and it’s kind of the object of the game.

A tap from a 70year old on a football helmet isn’t a story. My grandma used to smack me on the back of the head for swearing at the dinner table a heckuva lot harder than that.

  34. JimbobBucsFan Says:

BA was caught on camera right away with his impulsive act. (Yeah, it was only a light tap.) Bruce said he would appeal in his presser today. (Sounds liike a criminal act. 😋) $50K may be “chump change” to many in our country today, but I”l take it if someone one to toss it my way. 🙄 🤑

  35. BucfaninMi Says:

He is wearing a helmet 🤷🏼‍♂️

  36. Lamarcus Says:

This happened before Arians first year here. I believe he slapped Dean like he did Adams. It’s just his coaching style

  37. LongSeason Says:

I expected BA to get fined. But I think Ba would rather pay that fine then have a penalty called on Adams.

  38. SomeGuy Says:

This is way too light a punishment for Arians. Does he not realize the legacy of slavery? Hitting an African American player is just exposing white supremacy. How is this different than a master slapping his slave?

Just think of the genetic memories this must have triggered. At a minimum Arians should resign and Todd Bowles should immediately be named head coach. That’s before we even talk about the monetary settlement Adams has coming.

  39. mark2001 Says:

Silly Someguy. Arians probably doesn’t have a racist bone in his body. Frankly, you sound pretty racist. Bruce and the Barber Brothers dad were great friends…he even used to baby sit the future HOF player and his brother. He insisted on two Black team coordinators and other coaches. You sound pretty wacky.

  40. SomeGuy Says:

@Mark2001 “Some of my best friends are Black”, I think I’ve heard that one before, from like every white racist ever.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

Umm.. has Lstnfrmafar reappeared as “ Some Guy”

BA is well known for inclusion and diversity.

Playing the race card on this is ridiculous.

  42. unbelievable Says:

Oh wow, listnr changed his username yet again? What a pu$$

As for the fine- how come Aaron Donald isn’t fined for literally trying to choke someone? Again.

  43. SomeGuy Says:

I have no idea who the other user you mention is. Aaron Donald has been oppressed his entire life by being forced to live in a white patriarchy, of course he is going to lash out.

Arians is manifesting white supremacy when, as a white person he strikes a black person, what is so hard to understand about that?

If Arians is knows for diversity and inclusion where are all the Hispanic, Asian and Native American players and coaches? They are woefully under represented.

  44. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Dude

You have literally lost your mind.

    Jim Thorpe died years ago.

  45. Bucfan Says:

    Someguy,

You have got to be kidding me. How in the *ell is this related to slavery or racism? Please tell us as I am intrigued as to why you think this way.

Stupid and ignorant comments like yours is why we have such a divide in this country. Are you a Millenial? Need a safe place?

You need to grow up bro and comments such as yours is why I say we are witnessing the pussification of America.

Back when I played High School football it was common for the coaches to smack a players in the helmet and sometimes they would use a clipboard or even grab your mask and pull you around.

What BA did is NO BIG DEAL bro!

  46. somecompletelydifferentguy Says:

You shouldn’t say “bro” unless you are Black, otherwise it is culture appropriation. BTW: It’s not just me, Warren Sapp said the NFL is modern day slavery.

  47. sasquatch Says:

That was a $50,000 shot? Adams should offer to pay it because he deserved it.

  48. someguy Says:

Warren Sapp said the NFL is modern day slavery, I guess he doesn’t know what he’s talking about?

Also @Bucfan unless you are Black you shouldn’t say “bro” that’s cultural appropriation.

  49. mark2001 Says:

Someguy…you’re kidding..right? Having a guy as a best friend to the point you are babysitting his kids? And actively promoting Black coaches to his staff and going out of your way to try to get them HC positions? That is walking the walk. Seems you don’t know the difference between talking the talk and walking the walk.

  50. mark2001 Says:

And BTW some bizarre guy… why did he do that to a black player? Because it was a black player who was jawing at a guy on the opposing team and trying to pull an opposing player off the pile, at a critical time in a playoff game. Had a white player been in the same situation, I don’t doubt he would have smacked their helmet. Race had nothing to do with it.

  51. alaskabuc Says:

It does not look like it was done out of anger or poor intent when you watch it and really seems like no big deal, but the rules are in place for good cause and the fine helps to keep that standard, regardless of gray areas. Personally I think Adam’s should get the money instead of the league whether the pat on the helmet bothered him or not.

  52. Bucsfanman Says:

Why not tie it to domestic violence?! Child endangerment?! Age Discrimination?!

Easily some of the dumbest comments I’ve seen on this site, and that is saying something!

  53. Patrick in VA Says:

I really don’t feel like this needs to be commented on. This is a non-issue, but I also feel like some voices need to be heard to come to BA’s defense to say that they are not at all “offended on behalf” of someone else. If Adams isn’t upset, if the other players aren’t upset, and if BA isn’t upset then it’s truly not an issue at all. Just don’t want the screaming heads on the internet to be the reason that management feels like they need to act, so I wanted to put at least my voice out in support. If they read these things.

  54. SomeGuy Says:

@Patrick you really expect the slave to speak up if he is offended by his master?

But you do have a point, if anyone from the NFL reads this they should know all the privileged white fans are fine with the white coach hitting Black players to keep them in line.

  55. Patrick in VA Says:

@SomeGuy – you’re placing meaning on it that isn’t there. These are professional football players. They hit each other hard professionally. An old man hitting his helmet, which is designed to protect him from the equivalent of a car crash, with his hand is an absolute nothing. Bruce Arians is well known for having fantastic relationships with his players. Everyone who’s played for him adores him and that includes people from all different races and ethnicities. You’re trying to jam a narrative into something where it doesn’t belong. Comparing this to a slave/master relationship is wildly inappropriate and completely invalidates anything that you have to say after that.

  56. Patrick in VA Says:

@SomeGuy – evidently yours is the only side of the argument that gets to be posted on here. So, enjoy sounding off in your echo chamber.

@joes – I’ve followed this site for over a decade and I’ve listened to every podcast and every offspring podcast you’ve ever done.. thanks for the coverage and entertainment over the years, but if you’re using your site to perpetuate the same BS refusal to let both sides of an argument have their say that exists everywhere else then I don’t care to have anything to do with your coverage anymore the same way I’ve stopped paying attention to the rest of the single agenda pushing sources that are out there. Congrats on being part of the problem. Wish you all as people well, but I’m out on your product

  57. SomeGuy Says:

@Patrick I’m not sure what you are saying about censoring, I see two comments from you since the last one I made. Where there more that got deleted?

If so, keep in mind I am in line with the NFL’s thoughts on racial justice, just go to NFL.com and look at their social justice pages.

  58. SomeGuy Says:

[Nah man, you are not going to make up crap or hint around about people employed by the Bucs possibly up to sinister things. This is a business Joe runs here, not a bar. Careful how you tread. — Joe]

  59. SomeGuy Says:

I didn’t hint or make up anything, I said everyone should be held to the same standard. Why shouldn’t they be? If it’s so wrong that we vanish people from the stadium why not check everyone?
