“I Just… Stepped On The Gas”

December 12th, 2021

Welcome back.

The man of the hour had a few brief moments for the Buccaneers Radio Network to describe what may be the biggest play of his career.

Five weeks ago, Breshad Perriman was on the street, having been let go by the Bears. But like in the business world, it’s not always what you know, it’s who you know. And Perriman knew Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Perriman was here with Arians and the Bucs and had a nice 2019 season, specifically closing strong when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were lost with injuries. That success didn’t carry over to his new teams and he found himself released midseason this year. With Antonio Brown and Scotty Miller injured, Arians called knowing Perriman and knowing Perriman knew his offense.

That paid off big time tonight when he scored on a 58-yard pass play from Tom Brady in overtime to land a knockout punch on the Bills.

Perriman said he was supposed to run a pick on the play for Mike Evans but instead, Evans ran a pick for him which freed him up to cut across the middle on a shallow route from left to right.

“I kind of peeked at the JumboTron to see where the [Bills linebacker] behind me was,” Perriman said of the game-winning play. “After that I just put the gas on, stepped on the gas.”

Perriman pulled away from the defender and didn’t have anyone close to him as he crossed the goal line.

“All I could think about was go, go, go!” Perriman said as the play developed. “You can’t get caught.”

He is lucky to go from unemployed to scoring a game-winning touchdown in overtime for the defending Super Bowl champions, Perriman said. “It’s really a blessing.” My season “started off bad. But when I got the call from the Bucs, it made my year. This is like home. It feels so good.”

Breshad Perriman. Not good enough for the horrid Jets or the lousy Lions. And not good enough for the Bears. Winning games for the Super Bowl champion Bucs.

No doubt. Much love to you.

Josh Allen put that Bills team on his back. Now that the smoke has cleared, I feel for the guy. With that said, our defense stepped up in a big way at the end of regulation. Forget about the points scored or whatever. 3 more yards given up and we lose but they held firm and forced a tying FG. Then the defense with a critical OT stop. Big rise from them at those key moments. It enabled this beautiful play. Smart for Brady to read that Perriman was easily going to toast the LB and Brady floated it to make the catch easy. I’ll gladly take it.

  3. ModHairKen Says:

That’s exactly what I was yelling “Go! Go! Go!” and then some F words and my dog got upset and left the room.

  4. Eric Says:

these NFL games usually boil down to just a few plays. But when you got 12 he tends to make one more than our opponents. incredible throw, led the guy perfect. it’s an honor to have Mr. Brady.

  5. Tampabaybuscfan Says:

    Stepped on the gas indeed!!!

  6. D-Rome Says:

    WhErE’s ThE BILLs MaFiA aT ?!?!? 🥴

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Interesting, looking at NextGen stats and Fournette has the fastest play of the week, reaching 21.29mph on the long TD run. Perriman isn’t in the top 20. Nothing negative towards Perriman, just thought it was interesting.

  8. firethecannons Says:

Welcome Home Breshad Perriman I was screaming Breshad Perriman at the tv on the play, I knew you had the speed! So glad to have a player that is so glad to be a Buc–hope he gets a superbowl ring!

  9. Jim Says:

They blew a 24-3 halftime lead! Nothing to celebrate! Poor coaching!

  10. DaBux Says:

I hate to break it to AB, but he’d best get his spit together.

    Quickly.

  11. Brent Clark Says:

This close win is better than a blow out, keeps them focused and hungry to finish strong and to get that possible bye week and bring everyone through Tampa Bay!

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Deckerhoff is the Goat.. lol great twitter comment. I’ll never say a bad thing about Perriman again..

  13. Izod Says:

This Bucs team lacks any kind of killer instinct. We were very lucky to win the game, the refs went completely out of their way to help us out. It shouldn’t come to this! We have WAY TOO many defensive players who take WAY TOO many plays off.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Izod – You can’t have your all-star offense going into a shell and only putting up 3 points in the 2nd half. The Bucs do this all the time, and it’s not on the defense. The offense gets the team up big, then they completely change up what was working and do squat.

It would be amazing to see this offense play a full game, beginning to end. They legit would break every offensive record out there, and would average around 40 points a game. If they did that, then it doesn’t matter what the defense does.

  15. Merlin Says:

I roll my eyes at Rod Munch in nearly every thread, but here I am agreeing with him

  16. gotbbucs Says:

Anybody else notice the Buccaneers employee sprinting across the back of the endzone to grab that TD football as soon as Perriman spun that ball on the ground? That was Brady’s 700th TD, they weren’t taking any chances.

  17. Craig Says:

I have to hand it to the Bills pass defense, they almost stopped the Bucs, cold. I will also give kudos to BL and Brady for putting some faith in Perriman.

After he blew his first ball, I thought he was done, I guess the Bills defense did too. Too bad.

  18. Tvan101 Says:

When the bucs pull a Belichick and replace last years clutch speedster with possibly a better replacement you know Licht and Arians are earning their salaries.

  19. Tvan101 Says:

    Perriman > Miller

  20. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

Was at the game, lost my voice, and in that moment grabbed the guy to my right and my friend to the left and did the biggest group hug as we all jumped for joy! Crazy game but great Christmas present to win it. Should have never gotten to that point but hey we WON!! Go Bucs!!

  21. Coburn Says:

Rods right in this one. Offense is so unbelievably stacked at every position. What is our worst group? If you look behind Brady and Lenny maybe the depth isn’t as good at qb/RB? 3rd tackle? 3rd tight end with oj mostly s disappointment? This team should be able to just keep pouring on them

  22. bucschamp Says:

usually at crunch time we rely on Mike, CG, gronk and brate. good to see an unexpected play this time.

wait till we get AB and scotty back.

I still think we should give rojo more opportunities. we need healthy lenny later on

  23. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Seems like Brady wants a team to come back in the second half! .. like he wants those late have heroics! Lol … He missed a lot of open receivers!!… But the defense as usual bent but didn’t break!!

  24. Eddie Marz Says:

Some guys don’t even want to celebrate winning. Go follow The Jets then. Great game and a great win for The Bucs! You want tough games, gets you ready for anything. GO BUCS!

  25. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

The Offensive line gave TB12 4 seconds to throw-4 seconds-awesome job.
Scotty Miller was a healthy inactive so Perriman could play. AB is history.
The penalty on Nelson on the kick return that would have set Brady up at the 40 instead of the 10 was a glaring mistake.

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Congrats to Perriman but now he is compared to AB? Sometimes reading this stuff I just have to shake my head. The defense stepped up end of the game and in OT? Why do you think it went into OT? Bucs had them in a 4th down to end the game and Murphy Bunting could make a tackle even worse he was trying to strip the ball, IT WAS 4TH DOWN? Grant it the game was exciting but not in a good way, it’s not like the Bucs were staging the comeback. Worst 2nd 1/2 defense since the WFT. Sorry wxhibition of 2nd half football.

  27. TampabayDJ82 Says:

I KNEW I WOULD SEE SOME OF THE USUAL HATERS FINDING SOMETHING WRONG AND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT !! I WAS AT THE GAME AND IT WAS AT LEAST 50% BILLS FAN’S , PRETTY SAD AS WE WON THE SUPER BOWL LAST YEAR AND ARE GOING BACK THIS YEAR , BUT IT WAS A CRAZY GAME AND YOU FAKE BUCS FAN’S STILL CAN’T WRAP YOUR HEAD AROUND THE FACT THAT THE BUCS ARE 10-3 WITH 4 GAME’S AGAINST LOSING TEAMS.. WHY ARE YOU ALL SO PETTY AND SPOILED ??? ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN.. GO BUCS

  28. TampabayDJ82 Says:

I THINK A LOT OF YOU FORGET THE BILLS WERE A PRETTY GOOD TEAM TOO !! NOT LIKE WE PLAYED THE JETS OR LIONS !! LISTNFRMAFAR- I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU SAID BESIDES THE SECOND HALF D .. THE BUCS D PLAYED GREAT, BUT THEY ALSO GOT THE SHAFT IN HAVING TO BE ON THE FIELD FOR A LONG TIME. THEY WERE ON TO END THE FIRST HALF , BACK ON TO START THE SECOND HALF , AND THE BUCS OFFENSE WENT 3 N OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE OPENING DRIVE AND THE D WAS BACK OUT AGAIN !!

  29. orlbucfan Says:

ME13 better get voted into the HOF. Perriman was wide open thanks to him. You bet he put on the afterburners. He was not going to let Mike or the team down.

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Tampa, the D rested pretty good 1st half. The QB they pasted in the first half ran it down their throats on the same play EVERY time. So it’s on Bowles or execution, either way you have to be able to play after a three and out. That’s their job. Some of you think becuase of the star studded cast Bucs have on offense they can score at will, unfortunately that’s not realistic and that was a REALLY good secondary. Not many guys can shut Gronk down like that.

  31. Buccsfan1 Says:

Great team win Bucs, hope it’s a wakeup call no lead is safe this is the NFL there is no easy ones ,just remember any given Sunday we can always go down. Please keep your eyes on the prize and keep pushing stay focused and striving for another Ring, and nothing worth having doesn’t come free or easy.Just stop Taysom Hill this Sunday night remember Shawn Payton doesn’t think we can beat him, since one of our losses this year was to the Saints, time for the Defense to show him different!!!!

  32. GOATWatcher Says:

This TD extends another record held by Brady. While still in New England Brady had touchdowns to more receivers than any QB in NFL history. #2? Vinny Testaverde, who played for 7 teams over 21 years. A rotating cast in NE. Appreciate what you have.
