Bruce Arians Updates Bucs Injuries

December 6th, 2021

Health status.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians gave a brief update on yesterday’s injuries.

The Bucs had three injuries against Atlanta — two late that seemed serious.

Jamel Dean suffered a concussion and is in concussion protocols per NFL rules. Coaches are not allowed to be specific about concussions issues, but Arians said Dean appears to be OK and might play against the Bills.

Will Gholston suffered a patellar tendon injury (knee). Arians wasn’t specific as to the severity but admitted it will be a couple of days before Arians had an idea if he could play against Buffalo. So it doesn’t sound too serious. (Backup guard also had a patellar injury and he landed on injured reserve.)

Arians seemed very hopeful Sean Murphy-Bunting can play. When asked about SMB, Arians said, “I don’t think he is going to miss any time.”

Arians did say hopefully everyone will be ready against Buffalo. So on face value, it doesn’t seem as if the Bucs are dealing with major injury issues.

As far as receiver Justin Watson, Arians sounded as if he’s done for the year. When asked if Watson would be activated this month, Arians said, “I doubt it unless (chuckled) — a lot of injuries have to happen.”

Activating a player means releasing a valuable player, Arians emphasized.

Arians did mention an unreported injury. The head coach said he has an Achilles injury.

“I inflamed my Achilles running too much,” Arians joked. “I’m not feeling too good.”

Joe will have more in a moment about Arians’ plans for Richard Sherman, who is getting close to returning.

Patellar tendon injury? Hope it’s nothing serious.

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

The Buffalo game will determine whether we get 1 or 2 home playoff games says Pete. Bruce’s face looks like a ripe tomato

  3. Bird Says:

Good to hear. We need all out studs against buffalo who dominate one week and suck another (jaguars)

Buffalo did just lose their best db for year just past week
Trying to finish out year with all wins would be great !

It sounds more like a strain than a tear.

I wish Arians would pull the starters in late-game situations, once the W is all but sealed.

Tight is the rope, pulling players. Injuries vs incentives. Real talk.
    Go Bucs

Didn’t realize Watson was still on the team

Bills have Stefon Diggs and Emanuel Sanders, they ain’t running the ball against Bucs D.

For real. I thought Watson got cut a long time ago.

  9. Robert Says:

It would be a miracle if the Bucs repeat with the amount of injuries they have had this year. The stars would have to align on almost all getting healthy by post season.

It’s not miracles @Robert. It’s hard work and preparation
    Go Bucs

  11. David Says:

Hope Gholston is ok! He is crucial in the run defense

  12. Bif Barker Says:

Gholston suffering a patellar tendon injury is grim news, He’s having a really solid season.
Bucs already have a shell of JPP. Tryon’s an inconsistent and inexperienced talent at this point. We can’t get too thin on DL at this part of the sesason. Cam Gill looked pretty good out there. Nelson too.
    Rest Will Ghoston dammit!

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

Watson signed his own pink slip by running less than ideal routes…which led to 2 Brady thrown pick 6s. He’s basically on a severance package..hence the BA chuckle.
