“We Talk A Lot Of Stuff”

November 15th, 2021

Ironic photo of the Bucs defense celebrating a fumble recovery yesterday that was not a fumble.

Lavonte David says the Bucs defense does a lot of talking, presumably about how great they are.

Joe assumes David is referring to conversations among players on the roster. Because outside of Devin White, Joe hears very few defensive players referencing their greatness publicly.

David was down about the Bucs’ ugly defensive performance yesterday and seemed to imply his brethren are talking too much.

“Bad football. We had the opportunity to get off the field and we didn’t,” David said. “We talk a lot of stuff, but by the way we played, we didn’t play like it. That was a moment to put our stamp on the game and we didn’t. We let them keep the ball and continue the [final, 19-play] drive. Terrible drive for us.”

Talk, don’t talk, Joe doesn’t really care. But it seems David thinks the talk might be crossing some kind of line to the point players are believing the hype rather than just grinding to be great.

Joe…maybe you missed Shaq’s comments earlier this year about being the Defensive MVP? Seems like he has been playing more like a “just another average pass rusher”, than an MVP. White hasn’t been playing well consistently this year, it seems…but he isn’t alone.

maybe this will turn it around 🤔

  5. PassingThru Says:

Vita Vea only has a bone bruise and a slight MCL tear!!!

  6. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

This defense needs to start playing angry. They have been playing way to relaxed. Go Bucs! Time to adjust the sails and veer the ship into Champion caliber status!

  7. Joe Says:

Any rumors on vea injury joes?

Joe has no interest in printing unconfirmed rumors when in less than an hour we should get an update. Patience grasshopper.

  8. Rojo’s Tears Says:

It’s true, I feel like they’re acting like they’re not having a SB hangover but they are. And all the media and “experts” were not giving WFT a chance to win adding more to into buying their own hype. But let’s be real, Brady usually turns it up when it gets closer to the playoffs.

  9. DoooshLaRue Says:

Why do we always need 3-4 wake up calls EVERY FREAKING YEAR?

Do the job you’re paid well to do.

    Damn.

  10. Coburn Says:

Pete something I agree with you 100% on. David is the type of sincere dude that would never lie and you trust your first born with lol. Hoping he improves as he gets healthy, time may be catching up, but guy has never been guilty of hyping himself. He’s always just kept his head down and plugged away. Need more of that and less rowing the boat

  11. Bird Says:

    Joes

    Thanks master. 😂

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs Defense probably do a lot of trash talking among themselves. About how great they are because of the superbowl rings. But other teams could less. They comin after us every week. Riverboat Ron told his team in the locker room after the game, We slayed Goliath..to big cheers. Thats how teams look at us and are giving us their very best shot. Lets be clear here plank walkers..Our defense truly sucks to holy hell.

  13. Leighroy Says:

These guys play like a bunch of boys, hooting and hollering and celebrating every. little. stupid. thing. I’d rather see them play like men, showing up and just doing their job and being professionals.

I thought that was the standard Brady brought, but I guess that’s worn off and we’re back to thinking we can just order up some W’s to eat again…

  14. Allbuccedup Says:

B A lets everyone do what they want no discipline. I have said before when Brady leaves back to top 5 draft picks. If we dont start playing better we should get a top 15 pick this year.

  15. mark2001 Says:

Don’t understand why it took this loss for some to see it? Barely beating good teams, or losing. And really only looking good against poor teams. That is the tale of this year. This team hasn’t been right defensively since the early series against Dallas. This reality check should have happened earlier… may be too late now with the uncertainty of our major injuries and such. And yes…a win is a win. But this game was only the tip of the iceberg we have seen, among the earliest signs basically the way Succup suckuped most of training camp.

  16. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Contrary to my name, I’m beginning to think this is not our year. I have heard so many announcers say that we have the best front 7 in football. We definitely don’t this year. Finally White played great yesterday. The defense hasn’t stopped anyone since the KC last year.

Shaq has never been great wo JPP, and even though JPP’s playing, he shouldn’t be. A torn rotator cuff, give me a break, he shouldn’t be playing, he’s virtually ineffective. Get him out of there. We should have picked up another corner. Who knows if Davis will be back to form by the playoffs.

Offense is struggling because we’re missing both of Brady’s security blankets. Players he knows he can depend on to catch the ball. I’m surprised he hasn’t latched onto Evan or Godwin, because they’re great, but I’m guessing they’re not getting opened. Serious changes have to happen for us to go anywhere.

  17. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

How about Less posing, fewer stupid penalties, sloppy play and missed tackles, and more practice, more precision, more disciplined and intelligent play. This wouldn’t happen on a Belichick coached team. Win or lose we booze I guess.

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Joe posted a story about LVD and DW’s statistics yesterday, and they did put up numbers. However, on this over-celebrating stuff and talking, I agree.
It used to drive me crazy to see VHIII finger-wave a QB after they overthrew the ball. Hargreaves having nothing to do with the outcome. Gholston used to celebrate EVERY tackle, even 5 yards downfield! Why?! They got 5 yards dummy!
I get it, it’s an emotional game. You want players with passion. BUT, EVERY single play doesn’t deserve a celebration. You don’t have to have a conga-line for every turnover. Channel your inner Barry Sanders sometimes and act like you’ve freakin’ been there before!!!

  19. Cobraboy Says:

What’s worst to watch and be a fan of:

A bad team playing sloppy football and losing, or a talented team playing sloppy football and losing?

  20. BigPoppaBuc Says:

This photo… Proof they’re a bit big headed and think they’re swag alone will get the job done. Rowing the boats and the Vita Memes are fun and all, but these guys just don’t seem focused and really dialed in. LVD is the guy who needs to recenter this defense and get them doing instead of talking.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Our Bucs have won their ONE superbowl for the decade. I don’t think we get there again with Brady. And listen, I do hope I am wrong. After next season, we sure as hell better find a QB for somewhere. Actually, I would find him this upcoming draft to learn from Brady. Them 2 we got in reserve right now, are not the answer. I think we narrowly beat the Giants. But our Defense will struggle bigtime.

  22. Ed Says:

Much of the issues this year can be blamed on poor technique in secondary and poor tackling. There has been games where quarterbacks are pressured but when they let go of the ball, the defensive backs are not playing the ball. The Bucs really are a bad zone team against 3rd and anything less than 10 yards.

I would rather that defense focus more on the middle of the field and force these second tier quarterbacks to make tougher throws to the sidelines. There is so many balls being thrown 5 to 7 yards in the air and defenders are 3-4 yards off before they even start to tackle. Tighten it up and take some chances that a DB can cover 6 yards off rather than 12 yards off.

  23. David Says:

Todd Bowles and David and JPP and Sherman need to kick the defense in the ass

  24. Listnfrmafar Says:

Wow keyed in on JPP yesterday, not finishing the play a shadow of the player he was. Dude time to accept the injury and call it a season. The pain he must endure every time he has to fight off a block, or how about when they grab him up at his shoulder pads? Ouch.

  25. unbelievable Says:

Translation: “Yo D White, quit running your mouth and try making a stop when it actually matters. We’re getting abused out here. “

  26. unbelievable Says:

    @Cobra- the latter one, IMO.

@BFM- they both put up a lot of statistics b/c they were being targeted all game long.

  27. LakelandSteve Says:

I agree, the Bucs are horrible front runners. If you want the Bucs best tell them they are underdogs and the defense is the worst in the league. Barrett is not playing like a dominant pass rusher, hell he don’t even look like the best pass rusher on the team. JPP looks like he is really being affected by those injuries. Joe Tryon needs to be on the field a heck of a lot more. Keep cutting Devin White loose on blitzes because most of the time our front four can’t get a pass rush. Worst part is we face the Giants on Monday night in front of the nation. Unless something changes it seems like the Giants always play us tough. And don’t look now but the Panthers are sporting the leagues 2’nd best defense and played well with Newton back. If we don’t fix things we will be struggling to get a wild card birth.

quit the silly celebration and act like you have been there before
