Was Tom Brady So Upset That He Was Afraid He Would Unload On His Offense?

November 17th, 2021

Very interesting background from a guy who is something of an intimate with Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Aside from Jeff Darlington of BSPN, no national NFL reporter is as close to Brady as crossword puzzle-puzzled, Elon-Musk-peeved, Barstool Sports-triggered, almond-milk-sipping, hot-dog-eating-contest-protesting, mock-draft-scowlingL.L.-Bean-wearingtennis fans’ advocate, Second Amendment abolitionistMike-Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia-train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal-picture-takingvideo-game-playingTaylor-Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-trainingBudweiser-tolerantbaseball-scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, Coors-Light-souring, pineapple-upside-down-cake-eating social activist and NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports.

In fact, King once stayed as Brady’s Montana compound. Yes, while Brady was there.

In what Joe considers a non-story, some national radio guys — led by the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo of SiriusXM — are miffed at Brady for stiffed-arming fans with a 50-second press conference after the Bucs lost to WTF.

(Joe’s take on all of this: Brady, especially after a loss, rarely offers anything interesting for fans — and that’s who these dog and pony shows are for: the fans. Further, Brady is already on record saying 90 percent of what he says in press conferences is ca-ca. So, provided you believe what he says, if Brady’s words don’t enhance your story, or more importantly don’t enlighten your readers, then what’s the point? And if you cannot write a game story when the quarterback won’t open up but other players are available in these pandemic Zoom times, and the coach is a total open book if not a loose cannon, then that says more about the reporter than it does about Brady.)

Russo had King on his show yesterday and asked about Brady’s drive-by presser. King recalled a similar stunt Brady pulled after a win with the Belicheats. King later learned that Brady was so enraged at his offense, he didn’t trust himself at the podium, frightened he would unload on teammates or coaches before the NFL media at large.

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: If you were a reporter covering the game, would you have a problem with [Tom] Brady giving the Tampa media 50 seconds after a loss on Sunday afternoon?

Peter King: Well, I wouldn’t like it, obviously, because he is the quarterback of the team. The team is in a little bit of a crisis. And I want to hear what he has to say. But Chris, you know what that postgame reminded me of? It reminded me of the New England-Buffalo game at Buffalo in 2019 where the Patriots won [16-10] but played really lousy on offense. Brady came in and was very, very ticked off after that game, even though they won that game. He was very curt with his answers. Certainly wasn’t in there very long. I have not seen him so p!ssy after a game. Even his last game in New England, a wild card loss to Tennessee, he stood there for 10 minutes and answered all the questions. He wasn’t happy but he answered all the questions. But you are right, in that particularly case …

Russo: If you are Tom Brady, you are the face of the league. Don’t you think you have to give the media more than 50 seconds?

King: I do, absolutely. I will just tell you what I thought [Brady’s 50-second presser] was: In retrospect, I now know the way he was at the Buffalo game in 2019 because he knew the offense was essentially a lost cause. And they were going to be close and they were going to be good but they were never going to be great with the limitations they had on offense. I think that Tom Brady after [the Washington] game, wanted to get out of there because he did not want to something that was going to look really bad. I think he was afraid of saying something that after it came out of his mouth he would really regret it. That’s my gut feeling.

Whoa! So does this explain why Brady continually checked down to Playoff Lenny rather than test the NFL’s worst secondary on Sunday throwing to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin? This doesn’t add up to Joe.

One reason Brady bailed on the Belicheats and came to the Bucs was because of Evans and Godwin. Hell, Brady won a Super Bowl with those two.

Joe understands what Michael Lombardi said and Joe gets where King is coming from but it’s not like Brady is all of a sudden throwing to the likes of Donteea Dye and Freddie Martino.

Joe is confident something is going on behind the scenes. This all is just too weird. And no, Joe isn’t buying Brady suddenly has lost all trust in Cam Brate and Evans and Godwin.

Did Brady not like the offensive gameplan? That’s also a stretch because Brady has significant input into it. Did Brady butt heads with Byron Leftwich? It sure seems as if Brady has the liberty to shake off plays.

This is all very odd to Joe.

  1. Im not tired anymore we Super Bowl Champs!! Says:

All’s I can say is dont piss off the goat! This coaching staff has one thing to do and that is to keep Brady happy. Screw that up and y’all are fired! Simple as that!

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Well we can only tell by what’s happening on the field. On days where you expect ME to at least 10 targets, he gets 3 (multiple games) Rojo, not playing? he’s in the doghouse. OJ is not that good. Godwin is bang up 40 percent of the time. Brate is stiff. So without Ab and/or Gronk, we are back to high int turnover football and Brady is not happy with that

  3. Lamarcus Says:

I’m not mad at Brady either for checking down. JW would still thrown downfield and would be picked.

  4. alton d green Says:

Joe. I assume that you don’t write motivational books. I agree, this is all very weird. Yes, I believe there is something going on behind the scenes. BUT if I had to guess, I’d say it’s with that arrogant jerk, BA. Brady showed his class when Bruce threw him under the bus the first time but to do it again in public is crossing the line. As a career Brady fan, I know what a perfectionist he is so i’m sure that really insulted him. BUT if it’s true Tom ignored ME and CG, that’s also crossing the line. If you’ll remember i said that i hope this doesn’t affect the team but it looks like it’s too late.

  5. lambeau Says:

If you look at Shanahan and McDaniel’s upset victories this weekend, you see carefully thought out, creative, opponent-specific game plans with in-game adjustments. That’s what Brady is used to. Do you see that from BA and Byron?
Living with Belichick became impossible, but Tom must miss some things from his old life. I think King has connections, and knows there’s frustration.

  6. Defense Rules Says:

Regardless of how this season turns out, now taking bets that Brady won’t be back next year.

when i first started reading this article and saw all the red lettering, I thought i was reading the Bible and Jesus wrote the article or it was Obama’s answer to a simple question. He would ramble on so long that everybody forgot what the question was. Also, I thought it could be the prosecuting att in the Rittenhouse trial that wrote this article. Unfortunately, if it’s true as written, Tommy Boy will ABSOLUTELY retire after this season. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom “dropped the mike” before the season’s over. Thanks Bruce for your boneheaded, arrogant, asshole style of coaching

I get very irritated when i hear that BA is a SB winning coach. Most of his success had been on the coat tails of someone else. Including Tommy Boy. OUCH!!

  10. Youngbucs Says:

Lol people love riding the nfl wave from week to week. Today the sky is falling tomorrow bright and sunny. Next week a snowstorm after that a tornado then another trophy 🏆!

The stupidity so does this apply to BB or Phil Jackson or insert name?🤡

  12. Jp09 Says:

To me it’s pretty simple. The offense needs to change gears occasionally, run a no huddle once in awhile call plays at the line and catch the D off guard. Every play is go to the huddle, break the huddle, brady takes 15 seconds looking around, snap the ball, substitute, huddle etc. As good as the offense is it’s very blah, even when we have an explosive play.

Also time management is terrible, Bruce should’ve called a T.O. With 1:57 in this first (not sure the exact time) after Washington’s 1st down run. We could’ve got the ball back with about 1:40-1:45 and one timeout. Plenty of time to work the whole field. Even with a minute and 3 timeouts he didn’t use them properly

  13. Medicated Pete Says:

How many times does Pete have to tell YOU that TB12 doesn’t trust Mike Evans?

    I’ll keep doing it though

  14. Bird Says:

Just win baby at home and the worm will turn
Listen – look at all the losses in the nfl the past 2 weeks. Good teams losing to dog crap teams. It happens. The bucs at least have a reason

Cornerbacks that literally would not play on any team…absolute dumpster fire guys. Even cockrell should be db# 5 as he is too slow

And then bradys 2 guys that he goes too when he needs a play – AB and Gronk sidelined. We need these guys back.

Im Not sure why brady ticked. Maybe guys were joking in huddle and not tAking game serious as they thought it was a win before kick off. Lets face it. Brady is a perfectionist. He takes losses personal even though its a team game.
He probably doesnt feel normal for a couple of days after a loss.

Again , time for guys to play a little hurt maybe. We cant lose another game to a team we beat 8 out of 10 times.

  15. Steven007 Says:

A quarterback who doesn’t trust a receiver doesn’t thin throw that receiver nine touchdowns in the first half of the season.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

IMO….what irks Brady is giving the opposing teams unearned yds/field position which ultimately equate to points. He’s accustomed to a high level of execution and when you have Darden coughing up the ball on his first touch, false starts, dropped passes in the red zone, stalled drives…..those are all things within the players control. Its the NFL and you’re on a playoff contending team and yet we are executing as if we have Winston back at QB. We are losing to teams simply from poor execution on offense…..I’m certain Brady takes that personally. I was telling a buddy, I anticipated Brady to erupt like he did in the Bears game last year….we come out 1/2 a$$ against the Giants and I bet he explodes.

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

I’m sorry but when a coach calls the best QB that ever played the game stupid and says he responsible for 2 ints when one clearly bounced off Dardens hands is probably crossing the line. My guess is Brady saw something during the game tried to change the plan and BA backed BL. Brady is all about discipline and Bucs are not discipline and in BA’s words “STUPID!” Trying to figure out how most people react when a person calls them stupid, my guess not favorably. Or it could be that Brady knows Gronk and AB isn’t coming back any time soon and the playoffs are out the window.

  18. Mike C Says:

Listnfrmafar, playoffs are out the window? Really?

  19. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete demands that Mike Evans THC levels are tested before games.

  20. Drew Says:

The issue may be at home. Giselle is clearly unhappy with the fact he’s still playing.

  21. VSyl Says:

That’s probably a coaching problem. Maybe some coaches named BL and BA thought they were the main reason they won the SB last year and are trying to get to bossy this year.

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

VsyL I agree. BA loves the attention and for the longest time Brady was getting all of it. Could be a who runs the locker room battle. What happened to the back and forth praise they gave each other? Even when they win you don’t hear that any more. BA needs to realize he isn’t the reason the stadium seats are full or apparel sales are through the roof, that’s ALL TB12. Brady left NE because Belichick didn’t respect him, Brady doesn’t need to be worshipped but he does need to be respected and BA calling him out in public is NOT respectful. I’m sure Sherman, Suh, Evan’s etc don’t think kindly of being called stupid. Brady trust Evan’s his routes just take too long, plain & simple.

  23. WillieG Says:

Maybe the guys ran the wrong routes just enough for Brady to stop trusting them?

  24. crazyBucs_CL Says:

BA;BL;TB; all these names will disappear as soon as TB12 is gone.
Not only they are incapable/less the average coaches, but they are stupid/bonehead as well.
Deliriously they thinking that last season success, is their success.
Now they are going to wake back to reality.
More fans are seeing this realty, is bad when you fool yourself, is good to face the truth.
This trio: BA;BL;TB; is been the most lucky trio in NFL coaching history.
Time to show their real face.

“..The reality is the Bucs are currently 6-1. What universe are you from?..”??
    Right???
Well that reality is NOT true no more, we are 6-3.
Soon 6-3 is not going to be REALITY either, if Glazer don’t intervene.

  27. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Here is a idea. How about making a single play on a 2-6 offense (now 3-6) on a 19 play drive that lasts 10 minutes?!

  28. Craig Says:

I have to think that bloated staff is getting in the way of the team moving on.

Trim the fat out of it and have the offense talk to a few and the defense to a couple of more.

I have never seen a team that works with a huge staff; you can always find someone to commiserate with enough people around. Players like commiseration but it isn’t a motivator.

Pare it down and get back to the next man up philosophy. Someone can’t get open, try someone else. Two high safeties in the way, let a speedster loose to put the fear of Brady into them. No running lanes, plow into it until you knock a hole open.

    Basic football.

You can predict the future? You’re guaranteeing a Bucs loss on Monday? If you’re actually a soothsayer, why are you wasting time posting on JoeBucsFan and not making a fortune on the stock market? If you can’t predict the future, why are you crying about things you don’t know about for sure on JoeBucsFan?

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

Tom is missing the discipline that is a cornerstone of the Patriot organization. He hasn’t been happy all the way back to camp. The grass is becoming much less green on this side of the fence, and the largest staff in history can’t instill/enforce the discipline and dedication that TB thrives on.

This team is done. Prepare for an ugly loss on National TV Monday.

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

Mike Evans is a 50 50 catching receiver and Brady can’t throw those kinds of Passes anymore. He throws down feild if the receivers got a step or two on the coner.

  32. crazyBucs_CL Says:

@”’…You can predict the future?…. why are you wasting time posting on JoeBucsFan and not making a fortune on the stock market?…..”
    ———————-
No one can predict the future, period.
You can’t predict how stock market goes, nor you can predict the lottery numbers.
You can’t predict hurricane directions either.
Those are things without souls. Probability is use to ‘expec’ the outcome of those events.
But… you can’t use probability in events when humans/animals are present, cause you can’t predict their behaviors.
80% of sport’s analysts predicted we going to beat Saints (wrong)
99% of sport’s analysts predicted we going to beat WFT (wrong)
…for some reason they (analysts) are refusing to see/say anything against overstaffed/PR-friendly/all-inclusive/super media friendly, failing coaching staff we have.
That is what a lot of our fans are start seeing, and is not hard to “predict” that penalties still are going to happen; bad plays call still are going to happen; interest playing hard is NOT going to happen.
That is FAILING coaching, and is perfect formula for loosing.

  33. Joe in Michigan Says:

CrazyBucs: My point is that the same stuff was happening last year and the Bucs turned things around. No need to panic yet, IMHO. There are more injuries this year, but hopefully some of those guys will be back.

  34. Listnfrmafar Says:

Joe in Michigan, last season Brady stepped in and motivated the team during the bye. It is apparent that did not happen this season, the question is why? Also last season Gronk & AB were starting to perform at a higher level making this offense pretty much unstoppable. BA let Gronk play when he was clearly not ready, maybe that is the route of dissention? Brady could be pissed.

  35. Bucsfanman Says:

How exactly is throwing to the checkdown receiver a coaching issue? I mean, if he was the sole receiver, you could make that argument.
The TEAM had a bad game, that includes Tom Brady.
Coaches don’t jump offsides, hold, throw INTs, or cough up footballs.

Everybody needs to RELAX! We are a good football team. They will overcome this.

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bucsfanman

In which game this year have we looked like a good, complete football team? We were supposed to be so much better this year and clearly we are not.

On a side note.. SMB coming back is no miracle cure. Homie could barely play before.. with two arms.

  37. Bucsfanman Says:

Jmark- Zero! And that’s the aggravating part. We played similarly last year until late in the season.
Lets hope SMB and the rest of the team start to gel for another late season run!

Hopefully those guys will be back soon, along with the injured CB’s.

  39. Wild Bill Says:

Knock Brady on his ass early in a game and the wheels come off. Short quick throws the rest of the game. Add a fumbled catch called an interception and Brady’s face turns to stone. He shut down. Angry at coaches and team mates? Brady shut down and isn’t talking.
