Targeting Chris Godwin

November 3rd, 2021

A top NFL target.

This is interesting to Joe only in the sense of how NFL defensive coordinators play a shell game when trying to figure out what Bucs receivers to focus on.

When furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown and foot-rubbing, car-littering film guru Rob Gronkowski are healthy, it really is a pick-your-poison decision for defenses.

There is almost no way a team can shut down Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Brown and Gronk. Someone, at least, is going to get single-coverage.

So spreadsheeter Mike Clay of BSPN had this interesting nugget this week. Only one NFL receiver in the past two games has been targeted more than Godwin: Cheetah Hill of the Chiefs.

Does this mean defenses are more scared of Evans and they are making sure to take him out with Brown and Gronk sidelined? And does that focus on Evans allow Godwin to spring open more?

The Bears are so awful Joe isn’t sure you can get a decent read on how they defended Bucs receivers.

The slimy Saints? Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich wouldn’t be inclined to throw in the vicinity of Marcus Lattimore too often, even if Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians thought Evans owned Lattimore on Sunday.

Godwin gets open. Brady throws to the open man

Now with Tyler Johnson playing well Brady will have even more options. I’d still like to see Bernard more often. There has got to be a reason we went out and bought him.

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

Bucs have the best 1-2 WR combo in the league, 1-2-3 when AB is healthy.

Saw where Scotty and SMB have been activated off of IR. Good news!

  4. Bird Says:

They have mike running down field and a ton of go routes
Pretty sure the safety cheats his way most games. Has too
Evans isnt the fastest but he is quick to beat man and can body from there on out.

Godwin is slot so they have him doing all minds of crazy double moves

No worries, Bernard was brought in as a secret weapon. Tis the reason to be Jolly. Experience is the best teacher in the world. Bernard is excellent at catching the ball out the back field n Brady is the best at using his release valve. The team will return off the bye week with a vengeance. They are starting to recover from injuries n jell at the right time. BIG TIME PLAYERS PLAY IN BIG TIME GAMES. I don’t know how others feel about OJHoward but I’m hoping after the season we are done with him n get someone in who’s not afraid to use their talents n get their hands dirty. He’s passive, passive, n more passive.

  6. World Champ Says:

Get rid of Bernard and Rojo and get a defensive back

Except Evans was the open man, and Brady threw it directly into the Saints double coverage instead…

One of these days, you’ll actually be right about something though Pete. Kind of like a broken clock, it’s bound to happen at some point.
