Simeon Rice Doesn’t Make Hall Of Fame Semifinalist Cut; Rondé Barber Does

November 24th, 2021

Bucs icon Rondé Barber

The esteemed Pro Football Hall of Fame selectors have made their call.

Twenty-six former players are semifinalist for this year’s Hall class. That will be cut to 15 next month, and then the voters will assemble virtually to pick the 2022 class, which likely will total five.

Rondé Barber, a finalist last year, is a semifinalist for 2022. Former Bucs and Cardinals edge rusher Simeon Rice has been a semifinalist in the past but didn’t make the cut this year.

Per a cut and paste from TheAthletic.com, below is the list of 26 semifinalists:

  • CB Eric Allen
  • DE Jared Allen
  • T Willie Anderson
  • DB Ronde Barber
  • WR Anquan Boldin
  • T Tony Boselli
  • S LeRoy Butler
  • RB Eddie George
  • Returner/WR Devin Hester
  • WR Torry Holt
  • WR Andre Johnson
  • EDGE Robert Mathis
  • LB Sam Mills
  • DL Richard Seymour
  • WR Steve Smith
  • Special teams/WR Steve Tasker
  • RB Fred Taylor
  • LB Zach Thomas
  • WR Hines Ward
  • EDGE DeMarcus Ware
  • RB Ricky Watters
  • WR Reggie Wayne
  • DT Vince Wilfork
  • LB Patrick Willis
  • S Darren Woodson
  • DT Bryant Young

Before your start saying, “Robert Mathis over Simeon Rice?” consider that Mathis has one more career sack than Rice but he is the modern NFL era leader in forced fumbles with 54, two more than Julius Peppers. Lavonte David is the Bucs’ franchise leader with 25. Rice has 28.

Get to work, Ira Kaufman! This is your year to get Barber in.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

People love Tony Boselli b/c he’s a white moron. Zach Thomas, Steve Smith (who is a racist), Patrick Willis, Devin Hester belong

  2. Joshua porter Says:

This is just a Shame. I remember when the bucs sign him and he made that defense unstoppable playing next to 99

  3. Joshua porter Says:

Steve loud mouth Smith. Who said the bucs would get laughed out of the playoffs last year. Good thing his garbage takes don’t count

  4. SlyPirate Says:

Demarcus Ware, Reggie Wayne, and Torry Holt are no brainers.

  5. D-Rome Says:

Devin Hester won’t get in this time around but he should be in the Hall.

  6. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete wants Ronde to get in after Ira takes a dirt nap

“The esteemed Pro Football Hall of Fame selectors”

LOL, there ain’t too many esteemed folks among those selectors, but Ira is most definitely one of them. So many deserving players on that list, so Ira has got his work cut out for him. Good luck dude. 😋

  8. PSL Bob Says:

A lot of good players on that list. But you really have to look at the career stats and compare those to other players at the same position that have previously made the HOF. Rhonde has been slighted because he didn’t play a prototypical CB position. I know Ira will make a good case for him though.

  9. Bobby M. Says:

IIMO….Rice was a better football player than Lynch so its hard to see how Rice never makes the cut. I’ve always liked Lynch but NEVER viewed him as HOF….unless he won a SB as a GM. Then I would say his overall body of work to the game as a player, analyst and GM were HOF worthy. The selection process is so political and with an extra game added to each season, its going to get even more muddy down the road.

  10. webster Says:

Steve smith’s wife is white you moron

  11. Buc king Says:

Ronde due in the next few years Rice will have to wait…I see Wilfork n Seymour..they got a lot rings…I think looking at the list Ronde is in butttt they tend to hate on our bucs

  12. Buc50 Says:

It’s criminal that Rice is not already in. Barber should be in as well.

  13. RustyRhinos Says:

Allen over Rice? What has Allen done that tops Rice? Has Allen won a Super Bowl? Played in a Super Bowl? Got any sacks in the Super Bowl? Rice was dominant, Allen is good but not in the same class as Rice.

Take it to the house Barber. Close this out like you did the Vet…

Really Pete? Ira is an awesome writer and reporter, and sounds like he is a good guy. Why the dirt nap talk..

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Congrats to Barber. Hope he makes it.

  15. Marine Buc Says:

I hope Ronde finally gets in the HOF. He is one of my all time favorite Bucs and a class act first rate human… But that list of potential HOFs is very long and full of amazing players.

Bouldin, George, Wayne and Willis should all go into the HOF. there are several others that also deserve it.

  16. kaimaru Says:

    @Medicated Pete

Anquan Boldin played 2 less years than Steve Smith. With those extra two years, Steve Smith has 1 less TD and less than a 1000 more yards. How is Smith more worthy than Boldin?

  17. westernbuc Says:

Besides Barber, Jared Allen, Patrick Willis, Devin Hester, and Demarcus Ware would be my votes.

  18. westernbuc Says:

Rhino, Jared Allen has more sacks, tackles, forced fumbles, safetys, pass deflections, and interceptions than Simeon Rice. And he almost broke the single season sack record

  19. Buczilla Says:

I was checking out Tory Holts stats on pro football reference and Mike is only 3 touchdowns behind that dude. Crazy to think, given our offensive history that we are lucky enough to have a wideout like Mike.

  20. David Says:

    WR-
Steve Smith, Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson… All numbers are almost identical. They will all be in eventually.
Torry Holt might be a little questionable, Anquan Boldin probably will get in eventually. Hines Ward is questionable, although I think he deserves to be in someday.

(Sidenote, Mike Evans will have better numbers, or at least equivalent in receptions & yards, than all of them in 4 – 5 more years.
And he will have a lot more touchdowns than any of them).

Zach Thomas should definitely get in.
    Boselli will get in.
Demarcus Ware should get in, not sure if it’s this year.

I believe Ronde Barber gets in this year. I don’t see any other DBs on this list that obviously deserve it over him

As for the running backs… Fred Taylor & Eddie George are borderline but should be in eventually. I think people forget how great Fred Taylor was and he missed probably almost 2 years with injuries

  21. adambomb418 Says:

Ricky Watters?!?! The guy who was scare to run over the middle against the Tampa Two?

  22. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Bobby M – First of all , can you PLEASE explain your comment about Rice being better than John Lynch ??? They played 2 completely different positions !!! Yes I believe Rice should ALREADY be in the HOF , But you can’t compare the 2 .. GO BUCS
