Dominant Pass Blocking

November 27th, 2021

Strongest Bucs’ line.

The Bucs’ offensive line consistently has been very healthy over the past few seasons.

Outside of adding Tristan Wirfs to right tackle and Aaron Stinnie stepping in for hurt Alex Cappa and Ali Marpet, the Bucs offensive line has been largely a rock of consistency.

No wonder they are one of the best pass-blocking lines in the game. Probably the best pass-blocking line. So far the Bucs have only allowed 13 sacks in 2021. That’s the lowest in the NFL.

How dominant have the Bucs been in pass blocking?

James Palmer of NFL Network twittered out eye-popping information yesterday to demonstrate how the Bucs’ offensive line is keeping defensive traffic away from 17-game-loathing, salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

That is pretty damn impressive.

Maybe, just maybe, this intel will drive away from Donovan Smith’s most devout haters? Yeah, on second thought, Joe knows better. 🙁

Pete has shut his trap about Donovan Smith. He’s finally able to handle the left side w/ no help. Very impressive

  2. Swampbuc Says:

The Donovan Smith haters will not be swayed by facts of performance. They will not be persuaded by professional coaches or players who know the game, because they’re smarter! Some of them even played peewee football when they were 11! That makes them experts! Expecting some real deep wisdom from them at any moment now.

Indy has a very good def tackle Bucs need to contain.

Pete, kudos to you for manning up with that comment. Doosh…?

Of the 4 tackles (Wirfs included) taken in that draft, how many have better stats than Donny?

  6. Anonymous Says:

The pass blocking is superior, though having Brady in the backfield helps. First, Brady processes the field at an elite level, and second, defenses limit blitzing plays against Tommy Boy.

Our OL truely is elite. We are even getting better from where we were last year. Jensen will 100% make a Pro Bowl and bare minimum at least one other lineman will too.

So,,,when’s the last hundy yard rushing game?

  10. BradyBucs Says:

    Slightly misleading stat…

Brady gets rid of the ball so fast that there’s very little time to sack him. That will skew that stat for sure.

Would be interesting to see how the Bucs Pass Blocking compares to the rest of the league on plays that last more than 3-4 seconds.

  11. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Yeah… what’s Brady’s release time again?

    Elite line?
    No.
    Good?
    Yes.

Let’s see how the rest of the season pans out before we start anointing greatness ok?

  12. Ed Says:

Last I read: Brady take 2.3 seconds on average to release the ball.

On average, it takes the opposition defense 2.6 seconds to make contact with a quarterback.

Relatively, Brady just about has time for lunch before throwing the ball.

And, ya, he probably spots his primary & secondary targets faster than any quarterback in history.

In the last two losses, Brady had four & then two touchdowns respectively.

There were some on the team doing their jobs.

  13. Chris Boyd Says:

kinda feels like how last year ended with the same exact crew allows us to annoint greatness doosoh
