Dealing With Injuries? “That’s Football”

November 11th, 2021

Bucs OC Byron Leftwich

It looks like a lot of backups at the skill positions will be leaned on Sunday.

When the Bucs play the WTF on the road, it is very possible they’ll be down three starters in the passing game: Chris Godwin, furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown and foot-rubbing, car-littering, film guru tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Godwin, who hasn’t practiced all week with a foot injury, may see action but that appears to be a game-time decision. We should know more Friday.

Asked about so many weapons potentially absent, Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich seemed to shrug it off and all but say, welcome to the NFL.

“It’s just having good players being ready to step in to play,” Leftwich said. “I believe and trust in all the guys that are here. Any guy I put out there I have the ultimate belief in. So that is part of it.

“We have really been [short-handed] for a while now. Since the Rams game, we’ve been short-handed. But that’s football. I believe in the guys.”

Leftwich has a point. Brown hasn’t played since the Thursday night game at Philadelphia. Gronk got hurt at Los Angeles and only played a handful of snaps two weeks ago against the slimy Saints.

As for Breshad Perriman, who this week was reunited with Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians and Leftwich, the Bucs offensive coordinator was non-committal if the receiver could play so soon after returning.

Leftwich noted while Perriman knows the offense and most of his old/new teammates, he’s never played with the most important person on offense: salad-bar-hating, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, helmet-tossing, football-punting, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

hopefully ,we don’t need a 2 point conversion play from him against WFT ……

  2. BillyBucco Says:

Without the adjectives I would have to read his name.
And this column would be much shorter.

  3. Beeej Says:

Dude goes from playing catch with Sam Darnold to catching bombs from the GOAT. Life is good

  4. Francisco Guzman Says:

I don’t like the idea. On the road as well. This team has been too injury prone this season.

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

With Chris Godwin out, I will not be surprised to see Perriman play on Sunday.
He knows the offense, and his mere presence on the field means that The WFT will have to respect his speed.

pfff, like we have other choice!!!!
Our TV🤡, aka HC can’t deal with OBJ “abbreviations”. Offending him and AB in the process, but hey, he made his media’s friends laugh….. 🙄

  7. Francisco Guzman Says:

OBJ to the rams yikes! Wow.

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

The rams are gonna look like clowns if they don’t get to a super bowl.

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

Hey guys this is off topic but I was thinking we should through the Saints a curve ball next time we play them. Since they seem to have Brady’s number every time play them let’s start the backup QB for a quarter and if screws up put Brady in. lol lol lol.

  10. Francisco Guzman Says:

The rams have gone all in on this year. Hopefully someone stops them. That someone can be Stafford.

  11. JBBucs06 Says:

I actually like that we are not full strength. It should lead to more focus by the rest of those playing. The defense should play as though our offense is down pieces; therefore step up their play. The rest of the offense should be focused to play mistake free. This prevents letdown for a subpar opponent (although we know on any given Sunday…)

  12. crazyBucs_CL Says:

Rams are signing top players; how they deal with salary cap???!!!
    why we let that happen???
our “list of eight” signed, looks like crippled us on deal/trade making, and is not much of a “list”.
So how Rams can do it and we can’t??!!
How we going to beat them, in their own field after what happen on week 3??!!

  13. IrishTony Says:

Hey Guzman I think you’re on the wrong site.

  14. Francisco Guzman Says:

I don’t like it that we are missing all these wideouts. You can’t discount any team in the nfl and also with this crappy pass defense anything can happen. I got a feeling we gonna see game under 10 points with the victor. It’s gonna be close against Washington.

  15. Francisco Guzman Says:

IrishTony I been a bucs fan forever dude i am just stating my opinion right now on this team.

  16. Rayjay1122 Says:

OBJ is joining the Rams. Interesting race between the Rams and Cards is shaping up.

Los Angeles Rams locker room just diagnosed with inoperable METAstatic OBJ CANCER

  18. Jerry Says:

Playing the Rams in LA would be bad. They played us harder than anyone they’ve played all year. Hopefully we get more wins then them and get a higher seed when all said and done….or hope Arizona wins the west.

  19. Francisco Guzman Says:

One thing to keep in mind. These guys need to come back healthy before the season is over and play some games with brady to be on the same page. Injuries have really screwed this team.

  20. #8 Says:

It all hinges on our D. I feel confident the O will put enough enough points more often than not & certainly come playoff time.
I am not confident (yet I hope) our D can stop anyone. If they get on a terror like they did last year, watch out.
Folks forget the Bucs were 7-5 at one point last year…

  21. David Says:

I am not worried about OBJ to the Rams. Suddenly people are complaining that the Bucs did not sign him… With what money and why? Just because Godwin may be out one more week? They are fine, relax.

I am more worried on JPPs health going forward

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

With JPP’s injury Von Miller was a better pick than OBJ. The Rams have mortgaged their future same as Bucs only Bucs did it with money, Rams with future draft picks. Going to be hard for Stafford to spread it around to Kupp, Woods & OBJ. Why do you think Jackson wanted out?

  23. John Olmstead Says:

I’ve said we don’t play a QB that can hurt us, but that doesn’t mean we cant beat ourselves! If we are disciplined on the defensive side of the ball we win. If not its anybody’s game.

  24. Hodad Says:

Ty Johnson might be a starter next year if Godwin can’t be signed. Grayson looked good given his lone opportunity. We got guys in the pipeline, next man up, we’ll be fine.

  25. PassingThru Says:

I hope Godwin can start, providing that it doesn’t make that injury worse. It’s a tall order having your WR1, WR2, WR3, and TE1 out, and expecting your WR4, WR5 and a street free agent pick up the slack. While Perriman might know the playbook, he’s had precious little time to practice with Brady.

  26. Jerry Says:

Injuries are certainly taking a toll. Nothing season-ending, and other than JPP the lines on both sides have stayed healthy. But we still got multiple guys out multiple weeks, and it does pile up. The DBs were hurt the first part. Now the receivers keep getting hurt.

Both the Washington and Giants games will be closer than they should be. The Colts, Falcons, and Bills games could be an issue if we don’t get some of these playmakers back.

  27. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady has done it with worse.

  28. Beeej Says:

Putting a collection of all stars in a group doesn’t necessarily equal success

Los Angeles Rams locker room just diagnosed with inoperable METAstatic OBJ disease 😳

  30. Bobby M. Says:

If Winston got Perriman a pay day…..Brady will make him look like a Pro Bowler. Great pick up in FA.

  31. Craig Says:

Most other teams have it worse than we do. If the defensive line finds their road to Heineke, we might not even notice who is playing DB.

I was hoping OBJ would be a Saint at this time, anything to dull the thorn they stick in the Bucs side.

  32. Adrnagy Says:

I wonder if olivier vernon is available and ready to go. Jpp injury is super concerning

  33. Infomeplease Says:

Perriman had like 500 yards that last season he was here. He’s fast and if he can get on the same page as TB12 he will make a decent 3 or 4 receiver. When AB and SM are back he’ll add to receiver depth!!! A win win!! LFG BUCS!!!

  34. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

So nice to see Dog killing, pot smoking role model Mike Vic on woke Fox NFL broadcast… I know your off too mediation truth speaker🙈🙉🙊

  35. Rod Munch Says:

All the dopes saying OBJ sucks, is a cancer, are literally the same dopes last year saying don’t sign AB, he’s going to destroy the team, he’s washed up, etc. Literally the same exact people.

Now, if Brady didn’t want OBJ, no issues – you do whatever Brady wants. But no player is going to be a cancer if Brady is the QB, and if that player is one, then you cut them immediately.

Literally the same conversation as last year.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

That field in Miami is trash.

  37. PassingThru Says:

Wow, look at all the stupid Miami penalties.

No fair, they copied our game plan!

  38. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

    JOY!!!
