Bucs Get A B-
November 3rd, 2021In the eyes of one national observer, the Bucs had an OK game last Sunday.
But OK wasn’t good enough, obviously.
John Breech over at CBS has weekly grades for each NFL team. And while he gave the Bucs a “B-” grade, we all know that didn’t get the job done.
The Saints just seem to have Tom Brady’s number, the one team that gets him off his spot and makes him look uncomfortable throughout the game. Brady still threw for 375 yards and four touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble for the first time in six weeks. Three turnovers and 11 penalties doomed Tampa Bay, as a few roughing the passer and defensive holding calls extended some drives and led to New Orleans points. The Buccaneers’ stout run defense allowed 152 yards on the ground and they only had 72 on offense — a problem that needs to be corrected come the second half of the year. No reason to panic in Tampa yet.
Now as you will hear in the next edition of the “Ira Kaufman Podcast,” Ira has agita over Bucs penalties. While Joe shares Ira’s disgust, Joe makes it clear blaming the refs and their flag-happy ways for the loss to the slimy Saints is a total copout.
It wasn’t the zebras who got burned by Kevin White. It wasn’t the referees who couldn’t figure out how to stop a stiff of a quarterback from Northwestern — Northwestern! It wasn’t the referees who threw a pick-six.

It is true that the Saints usually have our number, and the worst part of that is, they are in our division.
That said, any other day, we win that last game.
I think we beat them when they play here, and we win the division. But the worst part of that loss will be the loss of possible homefield advantage.

Both things are true they definitely could have played better yes but the bad calls combined with the no calls definitely effected the game in a big way.

No, a B- is the score for an ugly win when a blowout should have happened.
A loss when a blowout should have happened is, at best, a C-
November 3rd, 2021 at 12:38 pm
Agree with Craig. A b – to me means we won ugly. We did not. Also as Ash said all of those things can be true. Bad calls and no calls affected the game to anyone with eyes.

TB12 gets a lot of credit when the Bucs win so it’s logical he would get a lot of the blame when they lose.
That said … the Defense sucked against the Saints. The Saints had a 3rd string QB and 3rd string WRs. The defense should have played better.

Saints shouldn’t have scored that many points!!
November 3rd, 2021 at 1:50 pm
Saints are my new most hated team. I went down to the game in NO. Fans were obnoxious and very disrespectful. Hope we slap them around back in Tampa.

Defensive holding and PA flags has nothing to do with player safety yet it has become such a joke. It’s pure fantasy money for the NFL. People ask every week “who should I start?” Like Bruce says, they scout these refs for their penalties every week. That should determine who to start on fantasy because coverage defense rules b!ow in the NFL. The college players not getting paid millions of dollars to do their job in coverage is so much better.

They’re idiots and Cajuns in NOLA. I always ask myself “how stupid can you be to live in NOLA when you’re guaranteed a cat 4 or 5 hurricane every year?”

@“…how stupid can you be to live in NOLA when you’re guaranteed a cat 4 or 5 hurricane every year?…”

there is a very simple answer to that:
a lot of free stuff from gov$rnm$nt…

@Craig Says:
“No, a B- is the score for an ugly win when a blowout should have happened.
A loss when a blowout should have happened is, at best, a C-”
——————–
you got the first part right (B-), but you wrong on(C-).
A loss in general, and specifically beaten by a third string QB, deserve just a F.
That’s it.
Those grade are from TV🤡 media friends…not from real analysts.
Ronde, on his weekly yt Bucs game analysis, for the loss, he did not mention D at all. Rightfully so.
He mention though all the great plays our O did. Great 5 min video, from a true Bucs fan, and one of the great CB that played the game.
But we go to stay positive, so:
Let’s go B.

I know, right. The refs aren’t the ones on the field making bad calls, taking turnovers off the board, giving free first downs and free points to the Saints.
Oh wait, yes, they literally were the ones doing that.

Grading is horsepuckey. The NFL already has a tried-and-true grading system in-place. It’s called Wins & Losses. A Win gets an ‘A’ while a Loss gets an ‘F’. Assigning B’s, C’s and D’s are like giving out participation trophies.
November 3rd, 2021 at 4:12 pm
He must’ve been half deep into a fifth of JW blue. A- for the offense, D- for the defense. If you think it can’t get any worse on D, then you’re a cockeyed optimist

BoJim … ‘Saints shouldn’t have scored that many points!!’
Or maybe we should’ve scored more? We do have the #1 offense in the NFL, even now.
As an aside, did you look at the Advanced Defense stats for that game that just came out today? I was flabbergasted. Our CBs (Dean & Desir especially) did quite well in pass coverage. Dean was 50% in completion %, while Desir was 57.1%.
We blitzed a total of 24 times (apparently on 20 plays), but WHO was NOT blitzing blew my mind. Who WAS blitzing came as no surprise though: White – 13 blitzes. LVD – 5 blitzes. Winfield – 4 blitzes. JTS – 1 blitz. Edwards – 1 blitz. Lavonte had nothing to show for his blitzing efforts (no pressures), but Devin did have 2 pressures from his. Not very effective IOW. Who was NOT blitzing? JPP – 0 blitzes. Shaq – 0 blitzes. First time I can ever remember seeing that.
Total sacks? ONE. By Ndamukong Suh. He also got 2 QB Hits & 1 TFL. Not bad for someone with a gimpy knee.

No matter what they do on defense, it’s not working. It’s a coaching problem, not a talent issue. Do you think the defense would look like this with a real coach? They smelled themselves after the Superbowl. From the front office to the coach, and players. Instead of improving on a very good defense, they chose to pretend everyone would play the same. The GM gets so much credit for bringing the band back, and no criticism for not improving. I can think of 8 coaches off hand, that would whip this defense into shape. Coordinators, and head coaches. How long is it going to take for y’all to realize that you have a coaching problem?
November 3rd, 2021 at 4:41 pm
If they don’t win the superbowl, Arians and bowels are as good as gone
November 3rd, 2021 at 4:50 pm
Rewatched the game, after Brady’s fumble, next Saints possession Bucs had 3 yes 3 roughing the passer penalties 1 body slam by Suh, Whites and Gholston were bad calls (Confirmed by Akeman) which negated the interception and led to a Saints field goal. The refs clearly wanted Saints to score on that drive. Brady’s first int before the half was a Saints penalty DB grabbed Godwin during his cut, no call. This should of been a Bucs blowout. My guess the next game will be.

@Refs…
—————
“…Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry was once asked about a bad call made during a game he lost. His response was something like ‘Bad calls are part of the game. Good teams do not let a bad call cost them the game.’ Referees will make mistakes. All we can hope for is that mistakes are kept at a minimum….”
~~
FGS, they beat us with a QB from the couch to the field, with two years rested arm.
This is why our D never will get good, forget great, always DC Toooood is justified.
Don’t understand why, cause Jets fired him !!!???
Let’s go B.

Arains is a decent coach butt..he’s really ridin Brady’s coattail until it just plain ole runs into the ground. Truth be told, Sean Payton is a much better coach. I mean Payton actually coaches. Arians is Mr. Golf Cart. The other guy with the Rams is a great coach also.
November 3rd, 2021 at 5:54 pm
Yeah when Brady fumbled I think he could of recovered it but to me it looked like he just sat there and looked at the ball. Was he scared he was going to get blasted by a defender???? Watch that play lmk what you guys think…..
November 3rd, 2021 at 11:03 pm
We deserved to lose, but it’s ok to say that we got screwed over by the refs, because we did. The giants got hosed by the refs this weekend as well and it happens week in and week out during the season to every team. Just get rid of replay already so that the games can run smoother without all of these gosh damn stoppages.
The games are rigged to a certain extent as is and you can call it home cooking, or crooked refs, league, whatever. If you eliminate replay at least one part of the problem gets solved. No more delays. Bad calls will happen because of human error and the “home cooking” calls as well no matter what. Hell, half the time what’s an obviously bad call to a fan never gets reversed by the refs!
Also, it would be awesome if the league would hire someone off the street who has never watched a lick of football (someone from PFF would be fine) to become the ultimate czar of what is and isn’t a catch. That rule has become so twisted and convoluted, it makes my head spin. It’s amazing to me that I still watch this game, but not much beats football on Sundays. 😋

No way Brady could of recovered that fumble, he was knocked down then he got as far as his knees before it was fumbled. I will say on both ints he went half ass at trying to make the tackle. This is a catch 22 cause if he puts his head in there does Bucs nation really want to see him sidelined over him trying to make a tackle?

They got an F. Football is a pass/fail sport. You win or you didn’t. Participation trophies stop in Pop Warner.
