Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs didn’t forget. Fans and his friends wouldn’t let him.
On “Thursday Night Football” for the only time in his rookie season last year, Wirfs was treated like a rookie. All-Pro Bears linebacker Khalil Mack bodyslammed Wirfs as he buried Tom Brady. It was the lone sack Wirfs allowed all season in one of the better rookie years you will ever watch.
The video was ugly. And Wirfs’ smartarse friends and other dirtbags on social media wouldn’t leave him alone about it. So Wirfs has been stewing about that play for a year. Yesterday was payback.
Mack was a total non-factor yesterday. Mack had one tackle — that’s it. Wirfs and the rest of the Bucs offensive line otherwise took him out of the game.
No one seemed happier than Wirfs — but then again, the dude is always smiling.
“Oh yeah, I was looking forward to it a lot,” Wirfs said about facing the Bears and Mack. “[It’s] been a year of people putting out those gifs and tagging me and stuff – being in my DM’s and everything. So yeah, I was looking forward to it.”
And then Wirfs peeled back the curtain on the inner workings of playing offensive line in the NFL. He said watching film of him playing last year, and against the Bears, he played tentatively.
“It was cool just to see watching the film last year [and] how much of a different player I am,” Wirfs said. “Like I was so tentative and kind of intimidated last year, and this year I just wanted to go out there and you know, do what I know how to do.”
That’s kicking tail and taking names, Joe’s eyes.
What is wild is that Wirfs thought he played “intimidated” last year and the guy damn near made All-Pro as a rookie. That’s just wild AF to Joe.

Tristan still needs to Body Slam Mack back lol
So yes he did well against Ft Pierces Fl’s own Khalil Mack.
But Tristan slamming Mack is what we all would like to see lol as an extra awesome thing the next time the Bucs play the Bears.

Wirfs stood out to me yesterday (after CBS pointed out one play). He really shut down Mack on several occasions.

Wirfs is the best pick Licht’s made and, for all his very awful misses, Licht has made some outstanding picks. Wirfs will be a perennial All Pro candidate at RT.

I’m with everyone else here, give the game ball to the O-line. They played a heck of a game and Smith continues to play so much better then he used to. I’m glad the coaching staff was able to turn him around and get him playing on another level. Big ups to the O-Line!

Jason Licht has done a great job! But the Wirfs pick was a total no brainer. Wirfs unexpectedly fell to us, we needed a lineman, so we took him. There was no “genius” involved like there was on the Ali Marpet or Cappa picks, where Licht went out on a limb.

The 7 guys on the O-line were like a 6 inch lifted 4×4 Bro Dozer yesterday. Amazing how they handled Chicago’s D line.

Yeah, thankfully COVID doesn’t pass via surfaces, it’s incredibly rare, but I don’t know if Arians was masked or not, I’d assume he wasn’t. Ugh. If these stupid Bears cause an outbreak… going into the Saints game…

Mack played 52 snaps? I didn’t even notice him, I thought he was out, injured or something. I know at some point they showed him on the sideline, but I didn’t realize he entered the game, more less played 52 snaps. He had at least one sack in each of his last 5 games, so it’s not like he’s having a bad or down season.

Can’t believe the guy didn’t make the pro bowl last year… Also, Mack was hurt all week and I’m sure was not 100%… No excuses, but Mack seemed to be the only one in the league who had this guy’s number!! And he HAD IT too!! He schooled wirfs that whole game really … But glad he got his revenge
