Coach Richard Sherman

October 24th, 2021

New duties.

A little scoopage from Peter Schrager of FOX Sports this morning.

Bucs cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross has been out the past week with The Sickness, Schrager noted this morning on FOX Sports’ pre-pregame show seen on WTVT-TV Channel 13.

So with Bucs All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman out with a hamstring, take a guess who volunteered and took over the cornerback’s meeting room and workouts this week while Ross sat at home?

That would be Sherman.

So today, Schrager reports, when the Bucs host the Bears, Sherman will also assume many of Ross’ duties working with the cornerbacks.

One of the reasons the Bucs pulled Sherman was his intelligence. Well, that is paying off. A little over three weeks after he was signed, not only does Sherman know Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles’ defense well enough, he’s now a part-time assistant coach.

    Hell yeah, what a beast!

    A good move.

Interesting. BA has a knack for turning former players of his into coaches. Sherman does have a good football IQ. Obviously making the best of a bad situation. Did they just find a defensive coach that could also go in and take snaps on a Sunday when healthy and needed? Licht and Arians are making a bunch of decisions that are panning out to continued success.

Love it, two solid thumbs up. This epitomizes team unity. Good news!

This is a very smart decision. Sherman is known for having a serious IQ, personal issues aside. He’s a Stanford graduate. Stanford is a serious academic institution as well as a football factory, and has been for eons. Sherman is familiar with the great Bucs defenses. Good luck to him, BA and TBowles.

Love the Sherm signing more all the time.

Just a football fan with no rooting interest, but I can say this was a great move bringing in Sherman. I was kind of surprised they even took as long as they did. His football IQ was reason enough honestly. It’s a shame he’s currently sidelined. Can not wait till he’s able to get back out there and show what’s he’s still got left in the tank. There’s a couple teams out there that can make it tough but a repeat for the Bucs is definitely a possibility

With Sherman hurt, and 2 of our corners on Injured Reserve, I would not be surprised to see us pull off a trade for a cornerback before the trade deadline.

Credit open minded approach of BA’s coaching staff. Like the Sherman pick up even more today.

    Those who can’t…coach.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I can’t believe how many are buying into the Sherman hype. And that is all we’ve seen from him thus far.

He certainly isn’t doing a good job on the field.

  13. Buczilla Says:

    Very cool.

  14. Mike Says:

Good move by the Bucs, he should be a coaching player from now after a great match.

I wonder how much influence Sherman has had on Dean and Delaney. Over the last few weeks the two of them have been playing outstanding

    @Bonzai,

Temper the expectations. Even Lenny credits Shady for improving his game. There are intangibles from the Sherm signing. He is old and going against young WRs, but I can’t remember him getting burned for a TD yet. It’s a bend but don’t break mentality right now with all the injuries. We’re just holding out till the starters get healthy. But, nobody can say Sherm isn’t an intelligent player, so he can still coach these other dudes up to play better with the mental aspect of the game. Our DBs played well against the Bears.
