Tony Dungy: Tom Brady Can Have 50+ Touchdowns

September 12th, 2021

It’s been 14 years since Tom Brady racked up 50 touchdowns in the 2007 regular season.

Last year was only the second time he broke the 40 mark.

Still, one of the defensive masterminds of the modern era, Father Dungy, envisions a nearly unstoppable Brady in 2021.

Speaking at The Licht House just before the Bucs kicked off Thursday night, Dungy told the Brother From Another podcast that he was talking to Bucs QB coach Clyde Christensen and other Bucs types and they are confident Brady can supersede what he accomplished last season.

Specifically, Dungy was asked if he believes Brady can do what Peyton Manning did during his second season in Denver, when Manning set the NFL on fire by throwing 55 touchdowns. That total is the NFL season record.

“[Bucs officials] absolutely think he could do that and I think he could, too,” Dungy said. “Because I thought last year was going to be an adjustment period. [Brady] is such a timing quarterback, rhythm. And he didn’t have that at the beginning of [2020]. He’s had that with these guys now. They’ve been through a training camp; they’ve been through a year together. And they’ve got some talented guys.”

Dungy added that he had a conversation with his former offensive coordinator, Christensen, and per Dungy, Christensen told him the Bucs offense is 30 percent ahead of where it was to start last season.

Right on cue, Brady went out and threw four touchdown passes against Dallas, which puts him on pace for 68 TDs in a 17-game season.

The numbers are fun, but like Brady, Joe cares little about them. Just play to your strength (throwing the damn ball) and win games.

Yet another record within Tommy boy’s reach.
General rule of thumb… Don’t bet against TB12

  2. Youngbucs Says:

You could argue statically last was his second best season.

  3. Youngbucs Says:

    Year

I’m telling you, watching him at Manning’s HOF speech, there was just something about it that made me think he wants that record.

If Godwin doesn’t fumble, he’s already got 5 after week 1.

Still, 4 is good, but keep that lost TD in mind.

Lolololo…..not if Tony Dungy was the head coach. We’d average 10 points a game hahahahahaha

    Like 👍🏼

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Medicated Pete — you’re mocking Dungy when you thought McCarthy was a good coach? LOL!

The TD record might just follow along with total yardage record as well!
Tommy’s got the tools, Tommy’s got the weapons, Tommy’s coach is all about “pointing” the opponent if possible.

    DAMN!
I hate watching other teams play!
    Is it next week yet!

    @ Rod Muncher

Never in a million years did i ever think or say McCarthy was a good coach. He’s a morbidly obese doofis

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Medicated Pete – Yeah, now that he’s gone you change your tune. Typical Packer backer, jump on and off the bandwagon.

  12. HC Grover Says:

The way Atlanta is playing today he might get 50 next week.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

    HC Grover —

Well you have to factor in all the scripted plays of running up the middle and punting, if they just didn’t do that and mixed it up, they’d put up 70. But I can still see 45.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Why in the world is ‘scripted’ moderated… such weird filters.

  15. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

He should have at a minimum 52 this year which is 30% more than last year, and that’s looking at where the offense was last year after one game. If they improve just 1% each game he’ll have 58 which he really needs to properly break the record being there’s 17 games now.

  16. ocala Says:

    He could get 60

  17. Mark Says:

Atlanta always plays brady well, brady will have godly numbers next week

  18. Crickett Baker Says:

To me, Atlanta looked out of shape and exhausted in the 4th quarter. They were hardly trying (albeit they were far behind). We should handily beat them. I am, however, now firmly in worry mode over Jaymiss.

Five TDs today against the Packers. I will always wonder if Jameis would have stayed with the Bucs as Brady’s backup. He did love this team, and I have no doubt he would be better than Gabbert. Worst performance ever for Aaron Rodgers.
