“Stay Ahead Of The Chains”

September 2nd, 2021

“Simple” instructions.

If Bucs fans didn’t get fired up for this season — it kicks off a week from tonight! — by watching the starting Bucs’ offense boat race the Texans and lousy Lovie Smith twice in three possessions, Joe isn’t sure what to say.

That offense hummed as well as damn near any offense Joe has ever watched. Right up there with the 1970s Steelers and Cowboys, the old Air Coryell Chargers, the 1999 Rams and the Randy Moss/Cris Carter-led Vikings.

Some men need to buy expensive prescriptions to get a rise like Joe got out of watching the Bucs offense last weekend.

One guy who seems satisfied with his first-team offense is Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians, so he said today for the local pen and mic club.

“Yeah, I was very, very pleased with the effort against Houston and what they’ve shown on the practice field, especially those two good days against Tennessee,” Arians said. “We were at game speed where we needed to be for Houston, and I like where we’re at.”

If the Houston game was any example, how could you not be stoked? Unless you are an NFL defensive coordinator trying to figure out a way to slow the Bucs.

The opening drive was pretty ugly, however. And Arians said he told the team of his easy solution to avoid repeating that first possession highlighted by a penalty.

“Don’t get a penalty on first down and get behind the chains,” Arians said he told his offense. “Stay ahead of the chains. It’s really simple.”

Words that should be heeded.

I would like to throw a little water on the fire.

Lets look at the 1st team defense and Id like to know what happened to our #1 run defense? We were getting destroyed inside and yes I am concerned. I know Suh was out and Im not gonna freak out about it………..The way I see it they can shut me up right quick next week playing a really good rushing offense.

Either way Im not worried at all about Dallas because their defense is terrible. But if we cant stop the run its not a good sign for the defense moving forward.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  2. BradyBucs Says:

    JimmyJack,

Our Run Defense will be just fine. It’s our Passing Defense which will get exposed.

  3. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Hell YEA!!! I just put on my leather helmet with no face mask and ran through a brick wall! D@mn that hurt! Brick wall and my face demolished!!

    “CAN’T WAIT!!”

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Houston is a demoralized team in rebuilding mode, with a poor coach, that is a losing their star QB.
I still think we beat the Cowboys, just not as easy.
    But who knows ?
Brady may decide to carve them up at will too ?

  5. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

    Dang…off topice. Keith McCants passed?

  6. Youngbucs Says:

Just a reminder the Bucs had the best offensive output in team history last year. Also had the fewest turnovers committed by the offense in team history last year. Also had the fewest penalties in team history last year. And we can be better take that for data haters.

  7. Youngbucs Says:

Oh I forgot our run was still bottom 3 again shooting down the run gm excuses!!!!!

  8. JimmyJack Says:

BradyBucs the secondary is very young needs to keep growing(actually just maintain their playoff performances).

But in order for that to happen the defense needs to do what they are built to do and stop the run. If we dont stop the run we lose our passrush which then puts all the pressure on the secondary. The defense is centered around run stop and without it everything else crumbles.

And remember the secondary is built to play agressive and hunt for defensive bicuits. Looking at yardage alone is not a great guage.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Think our run defense will be fine after Devin White tackles Zeke by his nose ring….only problem is all the boogers & snot all over Ray Jay!!!

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Thought that was a great before dinner thought for you.

  11. Terry O'Hora Says:

Sometimes teams are destined to win…..
We got Arians…..Check his last 5 years in coaching…..
Then Licht became SuperGM…..who saw THAT coming….?!?
Then we got TB12. Tom FREAKING Brady.
Now all 22 starters (AND SPECIAL TEAMS) are back….
EVERYONE in the building is vaccinated….
And everyone is healthy, and Brady will NOT let anyone rest on their laurels…
Like I said…..The Bucs – like the Lightning – are in incredible Championship windows…..

  12. Terry O'Hora Says:

    Most AMAZING Tom Brady stat:
    – Brady has the same number of NFC Championship rings as Aaron Rodgers…….and Drew Brees……and Steve Young……and one more than me and you

  13. Jmarkbuc Says:

Interesting that the only starting offense we’ve seen was basically two drives in hurry up mode.

I believe The Bucs are keeping things very close to the vest, in a very calculated way.

  14. Mike Says:

The throw that Brady made to AB on the left side is just uncoverable. If those guys are on the same page, it’s going to be lights out all season.

  15. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Jmarkbuc , I feel the same way !! Go BUCS

  16. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF I think you will be right and our rush D will play as expected. Zeke might be lucky to get out of that game healthy, we have been know to hurt quite a few RBs.

But I did wanna mention that the run defense has not looked good all preseason(including starters) before all all yall started gushing all over yourselfs…….As optimistic as I am for this team I do remember quite a few struggles on both sides of the ball last year. The momentum they built down the stretch last year is gone.

Plenty for this team to proof in mine opinion.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    JimmyJack

I think one side of the ball or other will bail us out if the other falters…..I’m expecting good things from our defense in both the run & pass…..I don’t think you can hang too much on preseason…

  18. ClwJB Says:

If that was a real game, it’s 42-6 at the half

VHIII is considered a “solid veteran” on the Texans

Dallas is going to get rolled too – maybe a hiccup here and there but we put 38 on them opening night

  19. webster Says:

Youngbuc still dont get it. That should do away with run game excuse? Yea it could if the run game was the only problem. You seem to forget pre brady there was no run game but the offense was still top 10 and some cases top 5. Brady led offense broke the previous years offensive records. A poor Run game was only one facet. If that was the only problem the previous 5 years then you would have a point. But when you also throw in 30th ranked defense, 32 ranked kicking game, lead the league in penalties, poor oline play, eventhough u have high powered scoring team and top 5 offense you still lose more than you win. You cant blame one man so stop it.

  20. webster Says:

And the run game was efficient which means it was effective which made playaction more effective. Thats why rojo avg 4.7 yds a carry. The amount of yards rushed for total was a product of the attempts ran. When was peyton barber efficient?

  21. Bucschamp Says:

Cowboys doesnt interest me. I’m more interested In bucs itself. Imagine Brady, Evans, Godwin, AB, gronk and our offensive line going up against JPP, sun, Vea, Shaq, tryon. They should air this ppv

  22. mark2001 Says:

Stay ahead of the chains…ie… no stupid penalties or plays for loss. 99% of the time, those are pretty much the only thing to stop this Bucs offense.
