Rich Gannon Picks “12-5” For Bucs

September 8th, 2021

Firm position

He said it. He was challenged on it. He did not waver.

Former MVP quarterback Rich Gannon, a longtime analyst now working for CBS, predicts the Bucs will finish 12-5 and win the NFC South by two games over the Saints.

Man, that seems like a low win total, but Gannon was adamant, speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio that he thinks the Bucs are excellent and that’s a great finish — whether fans want to accept it or not.

On Tom Brady, Gannon said “he’s like a great bottle of cabernet; he just continues to get better.” And he added that he considers Devin White one of the very best defensive players in football, and that Todd Bowles’ schemes to close out the season were masterful.

Gannon believes the NFC South will not have a true patsy. He is high on Carolina growing and noted they led the NFL in tackles by rookies last season. Gannon picked the Falcons to go 6-11.

Could/would the Bucs really lose five games if they stay healthy? That’s very hard for Joe to imagine after the team closed on an eight-game winning streak.

Gannon Shmannon. Since when did he become a guru?

  2. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

What I want to know is, who are the 5 teams that are gonna beat us ?
Sorry, I just can’t see 5 losses on our schedule.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Saints, Rams, Bills & once to either WTF, Bears or Giants or some other fluke…

TBBF sees max of 4 losses…….max.

  4. SlyPirate Says:

After finishing the year 8-0, the Bucs only win 1 more game (the extra game) than last year … with one of the softest schedules.

I’m guessing he didn’t put too much thought into this guess.

  5. Steven007 Says:

I have them at a conservative 13 and 4. Considering all goes reasonably well. Hoping for better, but 13 or 12 when should do it as well.

  6. Tye Says:

The Bills and the Rams are the only 2 teams I would consider to be exceptional teams the Bucs play this year…
of course there is always 1 or 2 they should win but lose…

I believe the Bucs sweep the Saints and probably the Panthers this season…
Falcons might split games because they have got the talent if they have the right coaches..

maybe to the Jets and Panthers, the last 2 games if the Bucs rest starters because of the extra game this season…

  7. Leighroy Says:

The only people “high on Carolina” are the crispy residents of Boone and they’re not watching panthers football either. The buzz here in Charlotte about the kittens is only focused on the return of McCaffery. The Bucs are well equipped to stop him, and he’d be the only thing that gives their reclamation project any chance. Eyes are wide open here that the starting quarterback is still Sam freaking Darnold and the receivers are…..?

Quick! Name a defensive player other than Brian Burns on the panthers without looking it up! Didn’t think you could either.

Leading tackles by rookies… what kind of bogus loser stat is that?!? Did their wide receivers lead the league in pancake blocks too? Did their offensive linemen lead the NFC in touchdown catches?

The Bucs lead the league in wins for the months of December through February, there’s a stat that matters.

  8. Your Mom Says:

Sounds like someone is still mad about 2003…

  9. sasquatch Says:

12-5 would be a disappointment given how we expect them to dominate. Also, predictions are for a-holes.

  10. Rayjay1122 Says:

That was just a safe prediction. I obviously would love to see a perfect record but I think 13 or 14 wins will be where we finish.

  11. Howard Cosell Says:

    Dammit Your Mom!
You stole Howards idea for a screen name!
Howard fully expects you to live up the billing that the screen name implies!!!

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

The Bucs lost 5 games last year, so it is possible. As long as the Bucs make the playoffs and win those games, the season will have been a success.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

13-4. Games i’m concerned about – Saints x 2, Rams and Redskins on the road and the Bills at home.

We will probably split with the Saints. I think we should handle the rest..

  14. webster Says:

You guys act like 12-5 is a horrible record. The bucs won the superbowl with a worst win percentage last year. The bucs can just as easily go 12-5 as they can go 15-2. And I see some saying 13-4. Whats the difference between 13-4 and 12-5? A missed or made fg? If you are counting the bills, rams, pats, indy as sure wins then you are crazy. Then you factor in teams like Saint twice, the dolphins who were 10-6 last year, washington who has a strong defense and feeling good because they think they can be more explosive offensively. Didn’t the giants play us tough last year and they too have added to their squad and feeling good then losing 5 games would not be a disappointing season. It says we are in the playoffs with a chance to repeat.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

What five teams? I’m gonna text this to Tom. He’ll laugh his ass off and shoot one back “oh no he didn’t.” GET HERE FASTER 8:20 THURSDAY!!!

  16. D-Rome Says:

    My prediction is 13-4.

  17. Buczilla Says:

Other than Jameis and his d-bag coach beating us once, we ain’t losing to anybody.

  18. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Five interceptions ( 3 pick 6’s ?) and a broken neck later…

  19. Ben green Says:

Old Ritchie had never forgiven Brady for the tuck rule. It actually was the correct call, but he hates all things Brady and Bill. For arguments sake, it’s a long season, and nobody knows what’ll happen. 12-5 maybe good enough for #1. You should take that all day long. They’ll finish with the best record in the conference regardless.
Ben predicts 15-2 with hickups coming against my beloved Pats, and a road division game. Don’t worry, Ben has you back in the big game, not ready to christen kc yet. Many questions on defense. The difference for y’all is linebackers.

  20. Jerry Says:

Keep in mind, both times the Bucs won the Super Bowl, the Saints swept us both years in the regular season. And the first meeting may be the home opener for them. I could easily see us dropping that Halloween game. That team is very well-coached.

Other teams that could trip us up are the Rams, Colts, and Bills. And you can throw a fluke game in there too (Giants, Bears, Dolphins).

That’s how you can get to 5 losses.

  21. View from 132 Says:

    Gannon knows picks. Pick-6, Pick-6, Pick-6…

  22. Snookman Says:

100% agree. 12-5 is about where we will finish. Ill take it. Too much hype
On this team. Remember the 2003 bucs….what happend after we opened the vet? 7-9

  23. webster Says:

Ben the tuck rule was not the right call. That was always a fumble in pee wee, high school, college, cfl, usfl, areana football and the nfl prior to that play. Stop it

  24. webster Says:

Viewfrom123 rich gannon also knows how to be an MVP in the NFL. Is it really all his fault the coaching staff kept gruden’s playbook with same verberage while trying to play one of the greatest defenses in nfl history? Do you not remember our hall of famers calling out their plays before the snap? Its much easier to get a pick six when you know whats coming. Dont let those pick 6 lead you to believe gannon has no clue what he is talking about when it comes to the game of football. Fyi….tony romo has never been a mvp but bro he is one of the best i have ever seen break down what should be the play call, what will be the play call, and just breaking down the game as a whole. And if i remember correctly, that man was mocked for a lot of his ints. Therefore instead of brush off his OPINIONS, i listen so i csn learn something

  25. Kobe Faker Says:

“Just like last year at 7-5

If they continue to run Bradys/patriots scheme,

    At worst 3 losses

If they let BA/BL twins try to call their plays

    Yes 12-5”

    Kobe Faker

  26. PassingThru Says:

Uh webster, it was and is a fumble in pee wee, high school and college. That’s because they don’t use the NFL rule book. The tuck rule was pretty awful and in my opinion it was a fumble… but within the parameters back in the day, the tuck rule was arguably correct. It was a stupid rule.

For what it’s worth the tuck rule was also enforced against the Patriots that season. Ironically, it was during the same Jets game that sent starting QB Drew Bledsoe to the hospital, paving the way for Tom Brady to start.

  27. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete - Founder of IAMSTPETE.community Says:

    Lol, YEAH RIGHT OK, WHATEVER.

This team could go 12-5with Kyle Trask at the helm, if we had to.

With Brady at the helm, we’re going UNDEFEATED. 20-0.

    L.F.G!!!!!!!!

  28. webster Says:

Kobe faker stop being dumb. The bucs never have run brady/patriots schemes. Were u in a coma or did u not see the bucs last year lead the league in long passes? Thats not brady’s scheme. Thats the no risk it no biscuit scheme. But of course u are one that thought BA was not a good coach

  29. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

Gimme a Jameis Winston pick6 to start the saints first drive against us and I don’t care about any other stat in the regular season. We all know the Bucs are lights out in January with these coaches and players

  30. Beeej Says:

They are going to go 17 and 0 and I am going to be the recipient of $2,550.

  31. PSL Bob Says:

For Buc’s fans everywhere, tonight feels like Christmas Eve. Seems like we’ve been waiting forever for tomorrow to arrive, and now it’s just a few hours away. Can’t wait to see what our presents hold. I even left out some warm cookies and few cold Bromosas for the Joes. Just hope Santa hasn’t left a stocking full of coal. GO BUCS!

  32. Jerry Says:

12 wins probably wont get the first seed. It took 13+ wins the past 6 years to get the 1st seed in the NFC.
We’ll need at least 13 wins to be in contention for it, especially with the extra game.

I know the Bucs won the Super Bowl with less wins (12 in 2002 and 11 in 2020). But its going to make it harder this year. In 2002, 12 wins got us the 2nd seed when that seed was still a bye. Now it’s not. In 2021, full stadiums are back. Home field advantage is important again. Winning multiple playoff games on the road will be harder than it was last year.

  34. webster Says:

Passingthru no it was not a the right call. U do know the tuck rule is still in existence? Why do you not still see that rule called? You talk about the tuck being called earlier that year. I bet you, the play did not look like that. Why? Because in pee wee, high school, college, cfl, areana football and the nfl PRIOR to that pats game, that result was a FUMBLE

  35. webster Says:

Passingthru just like the bert emanual catch. That was a catch in pee wee, high school, college, cfl, usfl, areana football, and nfl PRIOR to that play. Thats why the nfl came out a year later with a “new” catch rule that has really made what a catch is even more confusing. Stop it. Brady fumbled that ball

  36. Joe in Michigan Says:

    My guess is 14-3.

  37. Sumosam Says:

We are a bunch of homers here thinking the Bucs can go undefeated. If we lose 5 games, that’s a very good season but as a fan, I want to see home playoff games. That has to be priority this season.

  38. Buddhaboy19 Says:

Alot can happen in a season, 12-5 is very reasonable.

Id be happy with that, and a 1st round bye.
