Red Hot Bucs

September 15th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

No, Joe didn’t use that headline to describe the Bucs cheerleaders from a few years ago.

The Bucs are currently on a nine-game winning streak, a franchise record. And as Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports points out, the last eight have been pretty special and, as a result, the Bucs are on the cusp of an NFL record.

Not to get ahead of skis here, but Joe just checked the BetMGM app and noticed the over/under of the lousy Dixie Chicks-Bucs game is a mere 52 points. Even if the Bucs scored 40, that means the Bucs would have to give up at least two scores to get the over.

Are the Dixie Chicks really this pathetic? Or is this over/under a reflection of Week 1 overreaction, where the Vegas wiseguys think the Bucs are going to go Barry Switzer and hang half-a-hundred on Atlanta?

Yeah. What’s wrong with the cheerleaders this year?

There’s Jo Jo, Felipe, Marlon….. not that there’s anything wrong with that….

And just so as not to discriminate, they give them pom poms JUST like the ladies get….

    Bucs are on fire!

Who cares if we have male cheerleaders or not? Are they infringing on your ogling of the women on the squad?

Somebody wants to cheer for the Bucs? I’m all for it.

It’s a Bucs Life! Go Bucs!

I think the male cheerleaders are solidly in the Bucco Bruce tradition.

They should get 30-40 this week. 9 in a row, should happen.

    GO BUCS!!!!

Compare to maybe 10 years ago — there is no comparison.

Hahaha, love that opening sentence, Joe.

I think the Bucs will play disciplined, penalty and turnover free football. And I think Atlanta will pay the price. 42-6 Bucs. I’ll take the under.

Based on how lifeless Atlanta looked, you could be seeing a 31-3 type of game. The Cowboys have an excellent offenses, probably the 3rd best in the NFL, but this defense might be able to get right this week and really put on a show.

That’s why I’d be very hesitant about taking the over, it seems pretty risky since you’re saying the Falcons, who want to be a run-first team now, come to Tampa and put up points. If the Falcons can do what they want on offense, it will mean long drives that eat up clock, again, working against the over. If they can’t get those drives going, then they don’t score many points. Additionally it might rain.

I just talked myself in putting down $50 on the under.

I could care less about the male cheerleaders, I just miss the female cheerleaders wearing actual cheerleader outfits, instead of those awful yoga pant-style unitards.

  13. John F Ensch Says:

The Bucs are going to loose cause that defense is awful.

  14. Mort Says:

Y’all worry too much about cheerleaders. They literally do not matter to football. And who cares if they are guys or girls? Are you so insecure in your masculinity that you guys feel threatened? Get a grip. Go Bucs.

  15. Defense Rules Says:

I still fully expect that the Bucs will have a Top-5 defense by the end of this season. Using last season as the gage, the Saints had the #5 defense, surrendering 337 pts on the season. That’s almost exactly 21 PPG. So if this season yields similar results, Bucs would have to only give up say 20 PPG for 17 games (340 pts on the season) to be in the Top-5.

Question is ‘Can we do that?’ A good question to ask after surrendering 29 pts in Game 1 to be sure. Personally I think it’s doable, considering that last season Bucs gave up 355 pts (22.2 PPG) and ended up #8. We returned all our starters, and supposedly we play an easier schedule.

So let’s start against the Falcons. To get down to a 20 PPG average after next game, we’d have to limit them to 11 pts. That’s doable IMO, as long as our pass rush actually … oh ya, rushes. Matt Ryan did a lot of dinking-and-dunking against Philly; completing 21 of 35 passes (60%) for only 136 yds (after subtracting the 3 sacks). Falcons did run the ball a decent number of times (26) and gained 124 yds rushing (4.8 YPR) … not that shabby. They just couldn’t sustain drives or punch it in. Fully expecting the Bucs’ defense to have a much better game against the Falcons. Not a huge fan of predictions, but I’m ‘hoping’ it ends up 34-10, in favor of the Bucs of course.

I’ve got no idea if this is an unrealistic expectation or not, but I’d love to go into work next week bragging about the Bucs hanging 50 points and only giving up 10 points on Sunday.
