Is Tom Brady Growing Younger?

September 14th, 2021

Defies logic.

To quote Al Michaels on the NBC broadcast of the Bucs’ win over the Cowboys last week, the fact Brady plays at an elite level at quarterback at 44 “is insane.”

The veteran play-by-play man said in the same broadcast that Brady is “from another solar system.”

Michaels may be onto something.

NBC came up with video clips of Brady through the years from his early days with the Belicheats as well as video from the game Cris Collinsworth and Michaels were calling.

The clips had timed Brady’s release. Almost all of them were either .37 of a second or .35. Until it came to a clip from Brady with the Bucs Thursday night.

Brady’s release was measured at .33 of a second. (Nice eye, Rich.)

At 44-years old he has a quicker release? That is, as Michaels might say, CRAY-zee!

Then Collinsworth chimed in after watching Brady practice last week.

“We were watching the practice the other day and I was thinking to myself, ‘Is the 24-year old Tom Brady really better than what I am watching in this practice throwing this thing around?’ He’s so much smarter than he was then.”

Well, if Brady is smarter than he was (likely) and his release may be quicker than in his mid-20s, and he can still zing the ball downfield at 44, that just defies logic.

Man oh man, did the Bucs ever hit the lottery with this Brady.

I know everyone sees that 3:28 just above Brady’s shoulder. This guy is having so much fun in Tampa.

tom looks like he has about 4 years left in him as of now…
    (this can change fast tho)

i can see him playing to 48 if he’s well protected out there…

after about 48, you’re tipping into the 50s bracket, and as a doctor once told me, “it’s all down hill after 50 son”…

if we can have him until say 48, and then pass him over to giselle, all will be good in buccaneersville…

After seeing Fitzpatrick get hurt it’s just not realistic to think 44 is going to be a playable age. I truly hope it is. But I’m scared for the dude anytime there’s bodies around him in the game. Fingers crossed for his health. The guy is an amazing football player and his ability to stay motivated and in shape is unbelievable.

The answer to the question is no obviously. But with a caveat. The only fountain of youth, if there is such a thing, is taking care of yourself. Exercise and nutrition. And smart supplementation. Seems clear he’s doing all of that.

I’m just taking it one game at a time and one year at a time with Brady……I think his age is no factor unless he gets injured.

  12. '79 Defense Says:

And right after Collinsworth said that about Brady possibly being better at this age, he threw the bomb to Brown for the TD. Great timing.

I hope Brady’s fountain of youth is legal, and within the rules of the NFL. I’d hate to have an asterisk next to all our wins because it was discovered he did use illegal, performance enhancing drugs. I don’t think he is, but I also thought Lance Armstrong wins were legit too (not that I follow biking, I just knew how much he trained and how well he took care of himself).

    Publix sells his concoction.

  16. PassingThru Says:

Unlike a certain member of the Manning family whose forehead kept growing until the NFL instituted drug testing, Brady is 100% natural.

I’m sure his diet is very healthy, but I cannot imagine giving up coffee, scotch, beer, potatoes, tomatoes, dairy, etc. I used to think he was a bit crazy, but between his genes and lifestyle something is really working for the guy.

@WillieG – PED work mainly for agility (e.g. cyclists, sprinters), strength (e.g. wrestlers) and to some extend for endurance (e.g. marathon runners).

Brady does not fall in any of these categories. The arm strength may go by the 40’s (see Brees) or it may not (see Farve). What does typically go down is coordination and timing. It is all in the brain. And this is why even for activities that require zero strength (see chess) you won’t find a top player in their 40s.

There is no PED to enhance brain performance. It is all Brady and his diet, lifestyle, etc.

  18. Leighroy Says:

Wait, so Brady isn’t actually the real life Benjamin Button?!

  19. Youngbucs Says:

VA Tom anyone can get injured freak stuff happens. You do know Brady is 44 right now right and looks great. If you get certain injuries when older of course it’s harder to heal. But to say u think 44 is not a playable age is crazy he’s doing now.

Wakey wakey.. you’re only as good as your last game.. the gushing will stop after a normal game with a few more mistakes.. oopsy.. cautious confidence.. hopefully this week the defense will make his job easier..

It’s fun to watch tho. Must see TV.
