“Gravy” If Bucs Have Antonio Brown Sunday

September 22nd, 2021

Expecting absence.

While there is a chance furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown could play for the Bucs on Sunday, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians isn’t expecting it.

Speaking today after practice, Arians almost seemed more concerned with reserve linebacker Kevin Minter being on the COVID list on Sunday.

As Arians suggested, there may be no deeper position for the Bucs than receiver. So the Bucs are preparing full-steam ahead with a gameplan without Brown.

“We have plenty of good guys with proven track records,” Arians said.

(For those fretting, the Bucs beat the Packers in the NFC title game last year without Brown.)

Arians noted Brown has to pass two tests (or in other words, test “negative” twice for The Sickness) before he can be reinstated.

Arians said if Brown were to be declared eligible for Sunday, that would be “gravy” for the Bucs.

    Scotty Mills, strap it up

I like having AB on the roster as this will be a close match up. Though the sample size of two games is tiny, it is easy to see why many “experts” consider the Bucs and Rams to be #1 and #2. I like having AB around, he makes splash plays and is a serious threat in the red zone. The next man up (Scotty Miller) doesn’t offer the diverse route running ability of AB.

But I think the key to beating the Rams will be to go heavy. I’d love to see two TE sets and seeing more Gio in the backfield. The Rams defense just isn’t that good at stopping pass-catching TEs and I’m sure that extends to RBs who can catch the ball as well.

I still can’t believe we won the Super Bowl and now we are on a 9-game win streak.

Just your daily reminder that this is all really happening 🙂

  4. SOEbuc Says:

These people think Scotty is all around more talented than TJ? Bandwagon needs to put the bottle down.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

Passing Thru – Good possibilities there. You likely have it right. Sounds good anyway. BA said he wanted more action for Howard – so here is the chance to shine.

  6. Robert Says:

Miller has proven more than TJ. period

now if you’re living on potential….. go back to your JW and OJ world.

    I’ll take Scotty all day.

  7. Taampabaybucfan Says:

Miller & Tyler Johnson are two completely different receivers with different skills……each is better than the other depending on the route. Johnson can also block.
As for AB…..he is unmatched….and he’s more than gravy. We can still win without him but he’s what makes our WR corps the best in the NFL.

  8. Chuck T Says:

Hope AB gets some vitamin D, and rest up since he got the virus.

  9. Jmarkbuc Says:

I can’t escape the feeling that Gio’s coming out party will be in week 4.

  10. UncleHemorrhoid Says:

    Strap on your strap-on Scotty.

  11. zzbuc Says:

Better loosing a WR or a TE, than ANY other position….. Not that hard fellas….not at all….

  12. Cobraboy Says:

    I suspect Brown will play.

  13. Leighroy Says:

Oh come on, no “gravy on the biscuit” jokes?!

    Actually it’s 10 in a row but a get what you’re saying 🔥

    Robert

You’re lost with Scotty having more potential than a Godwin look alike.

So you either want Scotty starting slot (lmao) or you want him to be starting #2 receiver going DEEP ALL DAY. TJ is a beast with sick hands. I will usually never say this because I’m a long time Bucs fan that watches every play and I’m obviously trying to make my opinion known, but go watch their 2020 highlights and tell me who has better all around talent. We’re making serious long drives down field based a lot on clean cut darts over the middle, screens, and out routes.

If they got plays designed for Scottys deep ball, I’ll buy that all day. But if you’re trying to tell me Scotty is better than TJ in the slot or even rotate with Godwin??? Lost.

*long drives down field based a lot on clean cut darts over the middle, POST ROUTE, and out routes.

    Screens. Lmao. Need lunch.

  17. StickinUp4Centers Says:

    Darden debut?

  18. JimmyJack Says:

If Brown cant go Im guessing we will see plenty of both Scotty and Tyler Johnson.

Might be a good week to get Brate and Gio more involved too.

But its still a big blow to lose AB. Nobody comes close to replacing him. Luckily we are in great hands with Leftwitch’s masterful scheming.

  19. Mike Says:

More 2 TE plays are expected too!

  20. Crickett Baker Says:

I do hope AB isn’t really sick. My best wishes to him. IMO, if the coaches are paying attention (which doesn’t seem so) to Sony Michel, we will win handily with what we got.

  21. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Huge game for Mike Evans. Rams will leave Ramsey one on one with him to slide coverage to Godwin and Gronk. Mike will have to better Ramsey for a few big plays to win this one imo.

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

Seriously BA? C’mon that’s a stupid statement. Has Minter played a defensive down this year?

  23. Steven007 Says:

List, Minter is a staple on special teams. And obviously depth on line backer, a position not nearly as deep as receiver.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

@Listn: Minter is a key player on ST’s. Half of those are “defensive.”

  25. WalkdaPlank Says:

Evans has done fine the last two outings against the Rams. Jalen Ramsey just talks a lot of trash, and if he does shadow Mike the whole game that jus opens up the field for everyone else. Just like Week 1. Not worried at all about AB not being there he didn’t do anything last week either.

  26. Listnfrmafar Says:

Cobra, I am a Minter fan but comparing to potentially losing Brown, not close. ST’s is about 4% of the plays.

  27. Cobraboy Says:

@Listn: I am unaware anyone is comparing Minter to Brown. My comment was that Minter is very important to ST’s. And he is.

All losses are important, but not always fatal, QB being one exception.

  28. Bella R Moore Says:

AB looks 5 years younger….a little Botox goes a long way.

  29. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

It would have been nice to have Brown for this game, but Scotty Miller brings them another set of problems.

  30. DaBux Says:

Scooter will create a mess for the Rams thin DB’s. Outside of Ramsey it’s not that great. So let them shut down Evans and let Scooter and Godwin eat. Along with OJ, Brate, and that Gronk dude.

  31. David Says:

Everyone needs to settle down with Miller.
He’s a straight line speedster, he hasn’t proven anything else yet.
Johnson will probably get more snaps.
Miller is not shifty or elusive. Johnson and Miller will both be utilized and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a couple quick hits, like a wide receiver screen, to Darden if they give him a chance.

Otherwise I would expect huge games from Godwin (since Ramsey will be on Evans all day), and the tight ends…. maybe even Bernard Seeing a lot more touches out of the backfield this game

  32. Jimmy g Says:

Good thing the whole team is vaccinated…

  33. SB Says:

Guys……..How many catches did Brown have last week?
    1 for 17 yards.
We have the Master at QB and the deepest WR room in all of Football
Settle down. You are getting spoiled.
