Raheem Morris weighs in on Ryan Jensen

Ryan Jensen is one of those players opposing fans and coaches hate.

But it’s rare to hear one of those coaches actually say it.

It’s ok. Joe is sure Jensen will be cool with it. After all, he confessed to hating Tom Brady before the Bucs’ QB arrived in Tampa.

Jensen’s reputation for playing nasty beyond the whistle extends coast-to-coast, and that includes Rams defensive coordiantor Raheem Morris, the former Bucs head coach.

Yesterday, JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman chatted privately with Raheem, who delivered a playful shot during a discussion of the Tampa Bay offense.

“Anytime you’re talking about Mike Evans and Godwin and Tom Brady’s two backs, the big tight ends … he’s got a bunch of weapons at his disposal If Antonio Brown can’t go, they’ve got a young man named Scotty Miller, a really capable player who has made some big plays in big games,” Raheem said.

“He’s got weapons all around him, not to mention an offensive line that arguably plays as hard as anybody in football — with the guy you love to hate playing center. The combination of all those things makes them a tough out, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Joe loves Jensen’s style of play, and hopefully he doesn’t get gun-shy after a personal foul last week — one that came before the whistle when Jensen dove in to clear a pile and protect his running back.

Last year, Jensen played left guard against the Rams when A.Q. Shipley started at center. Aaron Donald, who often lines up over center, did nothing in that game.

Jensen is back at center on Sunday and a fun and nasty matchup should be forthcoming.

Jensen looks like an old Danny Partridge.

  2. lambeau Says:

Jensen and Marpet versus Aaron Donald should be epic.

  3. Robert Says:

He’s nasty, in a Suh kind of way. we need guys like him, just not some of the penalties.

  4. Gbobucsfan Says:

Dang…..forgot about AQ playing C last year

  5. Mike Says:

Donald is a great player, but I think Marpet and Jensen can contain him.

  6. Long John Says:

    SIR: RYAN THE RED

  7. PhillyBuc Says:

Love his aggressive play, but that ‘cleaning the pile’ penalty was costly. Don’t need anymore of those.

  8. Buxszntkt Says:

Hey Joe, why didn’t you stand up for Jensen when all the doooshes were dissing the dude on this blog last week, e.g. muncher dude.

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Mike correct me if Im wrong but we played Donald the past two years and he was pretty quiet in both of them matches. Im not worried about him.

Im hearing the Rams defense doesnt look so great this year. They lost Wade Phillips so it makes sense.

  10. geno711 Says:

JimmyJack — You are correct. Donald has done nothing against the Bucs. I believe that they lost Wade Phillips before last year. I think 3rd defensive coordinator in 3 years.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

We need more like him. This ain’t no pretty boy sport.

  12. Winny Testaverde Says:

Ryan O’ Red is a marked man by the officials…and opponents…especially after punking plenty of players in last years playoffs. He’ll be this years version of Mike Evans when he was marked for OPIs.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Jensen was an idiot on that play, he just barrelled into a pile in front a ref, as if the ref isn’t going to throw a flag. It was stupid and it killed the momentum of the team for nearly a quarter. The guy has a long history of making these stupid plays where he gets a personal foul, and he’s not good enough to make that yardage up. He’s an average center and there’s a reason Licht drafted his replacement.

  14. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Have to respectfully disagree on all points made Rod. I’ll take his disposition all day everyday. I believe those called penalties will start to decline as the year progresses.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

He protects the franchise and does a hell of a job of it.

  16. ClodHopper Says:

I love this guy. I love his attitude. You have to take the good with the bad and I dont think theres too much bad. I love how people hate him.

Every time I see him I’m reminded of one of my wife’s friends. She’s a thicc redhead and I swear Jensen looks just what I imagine her son looking like.

  17. Buccos Says:

Rod Muncher- Where do you get off calling Jensen an average center? Would a team make someone the highest paid player at his position if he were average? The Bucs have one of the best O-lines in the NFL and Jensen sets the tone. He was manhandling his opponents in the playoffs last year. He is a Super Bowl Champ for Christ’s sake. You are the only average person in this scenario.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t care if Jensen takes cheap shots, I don’t care if he eye rakes guys in the piles, knees them in the balls, does whatever he wants – just don’t be so stupid as to do it in front of the ref. It’s been years of stupid stuff like this. I don’t mind the attitude at all, but there’s a way to be a tough guy and get under the skin of the other team without taking stupid penalties.

As for the Bucs having, collectively, one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, that has to do with the fact Marpet and Wirfs are All-Pro caliber players already. Marpet being average isn’t an insult, BTW – I’d put him somewhere around 10th-12th best, but what other center above him is taking multiple yearly personal foul penalties? If the game was 47-10, then I wouldn’t care. But when you hurt your team because you’re a lughead who can’t control his temper, that is not good.

  19. David Says:

That personal foul call was ridiculous.

  20. Capt.Tim Says:

Fantastic center. Sets the Tone for the Oline!
And I thought he was even better at Guard!

  21. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I like everything about Ryan Jensen. Love the attitude. This team has needed an enforcer type player for years. If he gets a penalty sometimes I’m ok with it. Jensen gets the rest of the Oline amped up.
