Robert Hainsey Expects To Be A 5-Position Player

July 28th, 2021

Rookie OL Robert Hainsey

Bucs rookie offensive linemen Robert Hainsey has a very easy confidence about himself.

Some might say he’s a typical Notre Dame guy.

After practice yesterday, the Bucs’ third-round pick shared that he continues to train almost exclusively at center, but there’s a bit of a twist to Bucco Bruce Arians’ logic.

Hainsey did not play center in college, but he said training at center forces him to learn the duties of every player on the offensive line. As fans know, the center is sort of the commander of the line, aligning teammates and calling out defenses.

So if Hainsey learns center, he explained, then he’ll be ready to jump in at any offensive line position when called upon. And Hainsey is very confident he’ll get the job done, especially at tackle, where he played in college.

Joe is very eager to see Hainsey play late in preseason games at various positions. Joe suspects the Bucs will get him time at guard and tackle in the second halves of preseason games.

Bucs fans might remember another intelligent Bucs third-round pick who was one heck of a versatile force on the offensive line, Jeremy Zuttah, drafted out of Rutgers in 2008. He retired after nine seasons and one Pro Bowl honor.

Saw his interview after practice.. bright and articulate about what he was having to concentrate on in the learning of the center position. It was great when asked about blocking Vea, I think it was. He said in a Bull Rush, he had about 60 or 70 lbs. on him and he said he would try to hang on and hope for the best. LOL.

  8. Medicated Pete Says:

….he’s also taking the red eye to Japan to fill-in for Simone Biles

Pete..I don’t think so. He is practicing his parallel stance…both feet at the same level that you need at the center position. And I doubt both his wide feet would be able to even stand side by side on the balance beam.

Perhaps one Joe likes Preseason & one doesn’t…..one likes monikers & the other doesn’t….can get confusing….

One thing about Notre Dame though, they sure know how to produce offensive lineman and tight ends. As an aside – really hope they join the big ten or ACC. This 16 team super conference SEC is absurd and Nick Saban is right. It’s one thing to dominate because you’re better. It’s another to go all Amazon and Microsoft and basically monopolize. It’s gross and turning me off. Makes teams like Ohio State, Notre Dame, Clemson etc more likeable

He’s a pro bowler center in the making. Would have been drafted higher if he played Center in college.

Would like more info on all of our undrafted free-agent O-lineman! When a first team lineman goes down, someone has to step up!!

  16. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Yeah I remember Zuttah, think he went to the Ravens. Noticeable drop off when he left.

Gofortheface, NOTHING makes Ohio State more likable…
