Rob Gronkowski “Overrated?”

July 16th, 2021

True clown show analysis.

This has to be the absolutely dumbest thing Joe has ever read. And that’s saying something.

Some igit by the name of James Fragoza of Pro Football Network wants you to believe the most overrated player on the Bucs is foot-rubbing, car-littering tight end Rob Gronkowski.

And who does this lunkhead Fragoza believe is better? O.J. Howard.

It doesn’t get any stupider.

Fragoza decided to select the most overrated player on every NFL team. And he believes the Bucs are better off without Gronk. That Gronk is all hype.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Rob Gronkowski, TE

… Gronk is not even the best tight end on his roster, with O.J. Howard (when healthy) and Cameron Brate ahead of him.

Gronk hasn’t been the same since his injury in 2018, as he registered his fewest receptions (2.8), yards per game (38.9), and first downs (29) since his rookie campaign. Brate outperformed him in the playoffs, catching 14 passes for 175 yards and 1 touchdown compared to Gronkowski’s 8 receptions for 110 yards and 2 scores.

This is actually bassackwards. It is Howard who is overrated — and if he’s not overrated, he sure as hell is overhyped. What exactly has Howard done outside of trying to complete a behind-the-back pass to himself near the goal line? To be fair, Howard flashes here and there,  a tease of what could be. Hardly consistent.

If Howard is the Bucs’ best tight end, wouldn’t the team have missed him last year? They didn’t.

Brate was better? Genius here apparently isn’t aware that Gronk averaged more yards per catch than Brate during the 2020 regular season and playoffs, and he’s primarily used as a blocker, a crushing blocker.

Cam Brate is no blocker. Oh, and Howard’s blocking? Well, that’s less than ideal. When he’s healthy.

Jiminy Christmas! To think this clown actually got paid to type this tripe! What an embarrassment! No wonder Mike Tanier left this outfit.

Gronk caught two touchdown passes in the Super Bowl and is three Super Bowl TDs from tying the career Super Bowl record of Jerry Rice. Jerry friggin’ Rice!

Overrated? Joe’s ass!

Joe actually believes Gronk, once he got in shape, had his best year in a long time.

This piece is a perfect example of a dude reading box scores and not watching games, only highlights. This is one reason Joe hates The Red Zone Channel — and you just know that’s where this guy consumes football if he’s dumb enough to write something like this.

This kind of asinine s(p)it calling Howard a better tight end than Gronk really frosts Joe. Idiotic s(p)it like this makes all writers look like a bunch of a-holes.

There is one asset of Gronk’s that simply can’t be measured….and that’s his relationship with Tom Brady……certainly, Brady is much more comfortable with Gronk on the team…..it makes a difference……Brate or OJ can’t do that.

  2. Nick2 Says:

Love OJ and Cam but come on man. The guy had two touchdowns in the Superbowl and routinely came up with the huge play in clutch situations. Im not even justifying this crazy take. Thankfully we got Gronk who came in understandably out of shape but rounded into form quickly. Did Fragoza just crawl out from under a rock??? Gronk may be the best tight end of all time what a joke.

  3. Greg G Says:

Let’s not forget Tom and Gronk left at least another couple hundred yards and a few touchdowns on the field due to missed throws/connections. Some of it timing based, some of it simply because the pass was a mere inches too far from Gronk’s reach. Sigh…it’s laughable what some people are allowed to write sometimes.

  4. Bucsfan561 Says:

Gronk is good but at this point the other two tight ends are better.. grind may be a better blocker but that’s about it..
I don’t think he’s overrated though, just not better than cam bam or OJ..
How’s Howard overrated? More like injury prone

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

More drivel. OJ Howard?! Are we sure this guy’s not a writer for Mad Magazine?!

  6. Buc1987 Says:

    lol Joe’s fired up!

  7. Beeej Says:

Our improvement in the running game owes directly to Grind and Wirfs

  8. Beeej Says:

    Stupid phone

  9. PassingThru Says:

ProFootballNetwork is a site I visited a few times prior to the draft. They aren’t good at analysis of draft prospects but I give them props for making their site look somewhat professional by appearance. I consider them a waste of time, and I’m an expert at wasting time.

I won’t bother patronizing them for the click bait. OJ Howard still remains a prospect with promise, but that promise is only seldom kept. That’s not a good thing when you’re on the last leg of a first round, rookie contract.

  10. mark2001 Says:

Gronk outplayed Kelce in the SB. That says it all…. next….

  11. TSmitty3000 Says:

It would’ve been fair if the writer said “Gronk isn’t the same every game receiving threat at this stage in his career, but he’s still reliable in bursts and still a devastating blocker.”

OJ Howard never lived up to the hype at Alabama and he hasn’t lived up to it in Tampa. Brate was undrafted and doesn’t have Howard’s measurables; however he’s been one of the best red zone targets since entering the league. OJ Howard is the Lamar Odom of the NFL. He looks great coming off the plane, but the production never matched the measurables.

  12. Mike Says:

That is some dumbness if I’ve ever seen it. But hey, maybe it’s for the clicks?!?!?!

  13. Timbucs2 Says:

That comparison is an insult to clowns everywhere.

  14. Swampbuc Says:

Gronk handled WFT pass rusher Chase Young like Gronk was an all pro OT.

    What a maroon!

  15. Robert Says:

    WTF?

  16. Redwarrior68 Says:

Wait, what? Check LinkedIn for the extensive bio on James F. His hands- on football experience is coaching for 13 months an Eighth Grade team. Otherwise a graphic designer, intern for the football network. Real employee for about 6 months. Sheesh!

  17. Mike C Says:

The intangibles alone make Gronk worth every penny. Add in OL level blocking and the constant pass catching ability and you have a very accurately rated HALL OF FAME (1ST ballot) player.

  18. Beeej Says:

They clocked him at 21 mph last season, same as 5 years ago

  19. RIs_Buc Says:

OJ is lucky to still be a Buc but I DO believe Brate is our best TE. Gronks blocking more than makes up the difference tho. Also his relationship w Brady is invaluable and goes a long way in keeping people happy.

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Ugghgggggghhhhgh…Seriously? Losing credibility with all this BS Joe.

  21. BucRob Says:

Tell us how you really feel Joe!

    I agree with you.

  22. mg Says:

    Fragoza is no Einstein.

  23. PassingThru Says:

    @Redwarrior68

Yeah I checked his linkedin and had a good laugh. He coached 8th graders, which means he coached flag football. That’s something you do not use as a credential to buttress your qualifications as a professional.

The fact that he’s a designer tells me why the PFN site looks good in terms of appearance but has terrible football analysis.

  24. Bojim Says:

Much rather have Gronk than Howard. Rather have Brate than Howard too.

  25. D-Rok Says:

Over-rated? Nah. From a purely simplistic view, who did Brady trust and find twice, when the World Championship was on the line? Gronk. Those 2 TD’s put KC on notice early: The Bucs are here to play. Throw in an impressively dominant performance from the rest of the Bucs roster, and the result was a 31-9 demolition of the (then) reigning champs. I simply love to rewatch that SB – it’s a thing of beauty!!! 🙂 GO BUCS, go get another one!!!

  26. mg Says:

Gronk reminds me of John Mackey of the Baltimore Colts. They punished defensive players by running them over.

  27. D-Rome Says:

Gronk overrated is the worst take I have read heading into the 2021 season.

  28. JimmyJack Says:

If your not factoring in blocking to rate a tight end you are an ignoramus.

  29. SufferingSince76 Says:

Somebody must be paying these writers to provide copious amounts of bulletin board material for the Bucs. It just keeps coming.

  30. zzbuc Says:

Just another so called expert running out of subjects to write or talk about…..
I love the three TE we have on our roster, don’t count with me on the stupid game on comparing in between them…..Just so dumb……

  31. Jason Says:

Really Joe? Dumbest thing you’ve ever heard? I’m pretty sure some of the comments here at joebucsfan blow that out of the water, especially mine. LoL.

  32. Demetrios Liaros Says:

This is what fantasy football does to one’s judgement of football talent.

  33. Crickett Baker Says:

Got my first laughs of the day reading these comments..”insult to clowns”..hahahaha ..Jason, that was funny, too, and so many others..Tnx

  34. Anonymous Says:

Don’t know about overrated, but surely overpaid.

  35. daniel Da Man Says:

He got his name out there. No one cares what he writes.mission accomplished for the joker

  36. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

Sounds like just another blogger who never played the game and talks out his arse with derivatives and monikers 🤔🤪🤣

I wonder who else might fit this category 🤔

  37. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

    Fragoza is the new Fredo.

  38. Miller5252 Says:

Not the stupidest story/thing I’ve read online about a Bucs player before. Gronk brings that winning attitude and hard work that rubs off on players. He’s a matchup nightmare, and most of all… Tom Brady is 1000% comfortable and confident in him and knows when it matters Gronk will win. The more I think about it, the more I think not one of the 22 starters are over rated.

I think the craziest thing I’ve ever read about the Bucs was some person writing some article about Winston being a great QB or maybe even America’s QB….yeah, it was him being America’s QB in the article. That’s just crazy ain’t it??? Who knows, maybe I read it wrong. IDK 🤷‍♂️

  39. 6throundpick Says:

    Indeed. Good post. Cherrs!

Not fair. Joe was a high school athlete just like many of us. Yours is the logic which says that anyone who wasn’t at the battle of Guadalcanal is not qualified to write about the battle. If you’ve never run for President you aren’t allowed to author political columns. There would be no point in studying journalism, if this was true.

    We are ALL critics!

  41. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

    Gronk is overrated
    O-offensive lineman
    V, versatile
    E,evecirates probowl ends
    R, reliable
    R, receiving Te
    A,thletic
    T,wo tuddies in SB
    E,xplodes of the line
    D,ynamic

    Lol,did my best

  42. Scooter Says:

When Gronk was younger he was then most feared TE in the AFC, a defensive co-ordinators nightmare. Linebackers were too slow to cover him and corners/safeties too small to defend passes thrown to him.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

I like OJ, and I think by the end of the year he’ll be the best TE on the roster — but that’s not the case right now, for sure. Gronk being overrated is pretty stupid though, he’s an excellent blocker and a good receiver who got better as the year went along and he got back into football shape.

For Brate… he’s a good depth TE with good hands, for the most part, unless it’s 4th down and the game is on the line against the Texans.

  44. Bush's Coke Spoon Says:

OJ isn’t half the blocker that Gronk is. He’ll be our best TE only if RG87 is on the DL.

    IMO. 🙂
