“I Try To Be A Little More Balanced Now”

July 7th, 2021

New stance

Of course Joe watched “The Match” yesterday!

It was as boring as watching Bucs players stretch at practice, but still far more stimulating than a Lovie Smith press conference or old dudes talking about their football memories from last century.

“The Match” was a televised charity golf event featuring Tom Brady and pro golfer Phil Mickelson against Aaron Rodgers and another links champion. Bryson Dechambeau.

Wisely during the event, Brady and Rodgers starting tossing a football, as you can see via the Twitter video below. There you’ll hear Brady say, “I try to be a little more balanced now,” when talking about his throwing style and feet placement. Rodgers replies, “You don’t like your left foot forward any more? … To which Brady says, “I used to.”

Its amazing how Brady is so dialed in to refining his game and finding motivation — after 20-plus seasons and seven Super Bowl rings.

Brady spoke during “The Match,” and talked about how he’s always viewed himself as an underdog and can’t shake that mindset that has served him well.

Analyst Charles Barkley shared a Brady story from last season’s event that inspired him. He said Brady played eight hours of golf the previous day, then played 18 holes before the event, followed by several running sprints in the parking lot before the TV cameras turned on for the 18-hole tournament. The Basketball Hall of Famer said seeing that dedication still moves him to this day.

Brady and Mickelson lost in “The Match,” but Brady did drill what might have been the shot of the day, a 390-yard drive to within about six feet of a hole.

Yeah, I noticed that Brady doesn’t lead with his left foot as much (it isn’t absolute). It is a tad strange if you get into the mechanics of throwing a football. His left foot was betraying his accuracy for much of 2018, he was opening up and swinging it wide of his receiving target. He cleaned that up late season and his accuracy went back on track. Last season didn’t step into this throws, and I wasn’t sure why. After the season I wondered how much of that was due to his knee.

My best guess is that he’s limiting the space he needs to get off a throw in the pocket, which is important as Brady escapes EDGE rushers by stepping up into the pocket. It’s a more compact throwing motion, I am curious to see if he’ll work the left foot forward on select longer passing plays.

I had an outer body premonition during The Match. TB12 was grooming Rodgers to become the Bucs next QB. He’s telling Aaron to hang in there one more year & takeover at the Bucs when Tom retires after this season. DONE DEAL!

  3. DoooshLaRue Says:

    F Aaron “crybaby” Rodgers.

I think HE needs some of your medication Pete.

  4. gp Says:

    @Pete
After seeing what a team can do with ZERO prima donnas, and yet you lust after Rodgers?
    SMDH

  5. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

I tried to watch but couldn’t get past the mindless dribble of the announcers.

  6. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

I went back and watch the Bucs abuse the Panthers 2nd game

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Rogers should enjoy this victory. It will be his last over Tom Brady…

  8. SufferingSince76 Says:

He’s working Rodgers for the next meeting.

  9. Craig Says:

Brady was rated the number 4 QB after last season. He is dedicated enough to seem obsessive. It would be cool to see him top that list at 45.

I think that is where Brady is out. He has control of all the mental and large scale points of his game, a few little tweaks are all that are left.

  10. Medicated Pete Says:

    @ GP

Rodgers will be happy here bcuz he gets what he wants here

And looking at Cheyenne Woods was worth watching that. Not sure if my 47k salary is gonna make her happy but my pet monkey will entertain that lady 24/7

  11. SB Says:

Dadgum. The four letter just ranked LBs.
Devin White was #1 and Lavonte #5 in the league!
That is some respect! No way possible not to say that we have the Best LB Duo in the League!!!

  12. Slugglife Says:

And everybody was crying about a defensive end instead of applauding the “Savior of the Defense” pick.

  13. SlyPirate Says:

I taught TB12 about balance and the left foot.

I don’t like to brag but now that it’s out there, Your welcome.

  14. gp Says:

    @Pete
    Not with his salary requirements!
We wouldn’t be able to keep half of our talent and he would be right back in the same boat crying “woe is me, why can’t I have a little help(talent)”
He’ll never learn that you “can’t have it all”
So, wherever he goes, he will always be a crybaby.
    NO THANKS!

  15. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

No thanks to Rodgers and any other cap hogging diva.

  16. sgrd0q Says:

Another thing to point out is that a more open stance (left foot less forward) allows faster release, accuracy is about the same, and only the power is affected a little bit.

  17. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Tom Brady is the greatest QB of all time and I am darn glad we have him, but Brady is a short slicing hack at golf.

  18. Colin in Canada Says:

Brady changed his stance to be able to catch bad snaps from Jensen

  19. SB Says:

Too bad JW couldn’t do the same huh Colin.

  20. Stanglassman Says:

Everybody thinks they can throw a football til you watch these guys spin it.

  21. Steve M. Says:

    M. Pete is right. When TB12 retires bring in Aaron Roger’s !

  22. David Says:

Just stop with the nonsense about Aaron coming here.

    NO THANKS!!

  23. teacherman777 Says:

    @medicated Pete

I had the same vision last year!

That Tom Brady would be hired by the Bucs on a 20 year, 100 million dollar contract. To be the “King of the Bucs” And we would sign Aaron Rodgers.

We need to keep Tom Brady at One Buc Palace FOREVER!!!!

  24. Wild Bill Says:

To me watching golf is the best way to initiate an afternoon nap. Most over hyped “sport” on TV. Ranks right up there with bowling and horse racing for snooze factor.
