Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned

July 10th, 2021

“Not smart to bet against me.”

Confessions are always cool. Especially when they come from someone who always believes he’s the smartest guy in the room.

Joe has nothing against Conor Orr of SI.com. But man, if you read some of his features or if you ever heard him on a podcast, well, the guy doesn’t lack for self-confidence.

Joe once heard Orr breaking down the movie “Draft Day.” Man, the smugness and the stuffy, cackling condescension from the guy about the unwashed and the simpletons who not only would pay money to watch the movie or rent it online, but are so void of culture they’d actually enjoy it… His arrogance was just dripping off the speakers.

And of course, it’s common for Orr to get awfully preachy in his articles.

So Joe gives Orr props here for coming out with an article this week where he sort of does an act of contrition and begs for forgiveness. You see, Orr predicted the Bucs would miss the playoffs in 2020.

Yeah, we all know how that turned out.

Of course, I left the Buccaneers—and Tom Brady—off the list. You don’t get points for having the top three seeds in each conference when, ultimately, you leave the Super Bowl champion out of the mix. Lesson learned. Never doubt Brady.

That, due to the sheer volume of guesses I had, was the worst prediction I’ve ever made.

At least Orr is man enough and not so full of himself to acknowledge a bad swing-and-miss. It’s not like he was the only one.

Anyone remember last year? Dianna Russini of BSPN said Tom Brady would be awful because he is such a freak about preparation that a limited offseason with a new team would be too much for him to overcome?

(She also said foot-rubbing, car-littering Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski was too brittle to finish a season unscathed. Welp. Let’s just say Joe would never want to hang with Russini in a sportsbook — unless Joe is spending her cash.)

SMH, there was actually I time in my life when I said those words.
    I was so gullible.

Lying to people for a living is shameful and utterly unforgivable.

The media are hacks. Well, most of them, not you, Joe.

Agree. But russinni in the shower. I would be down

Can’t fault anyone for making a mistake….it’s not admitting it that is a problem….

  5. Beeej Says:

That YouBoob series, Tom Brady against the world, shows HOURS of various idiots making the same sort of statements, and most of them (Shannon Sharp in particular) pretending he never said them. What an Ahole

Bring her to the Sportsbook and bet the opposite

I gotta admit I doubted us too. I doubted we would make the playoffs. Doubted every game in the playoffs. But I have this weird thing where I think being confident before games is bad luck. But I got confident for the Super Bowl because of the Chiefs Oline problems and it was freaking me out!!

ClodHopper, you are clearly a longtime Buccaneer fan. Come down from the ledge of doubt and tell yourself every game that they are going to win by 20.

I often wondered through the years if Patriots fans took for granted all of the winning. I know that all of the years of losing never got easier to take, and yes, I’d watch game 16 every year even when all it was about was whether they picked 5 or 8 depending on outcome, studying the draft over Thanksgiving break. Last year, I didn’t even bother looking at the draft until the day before.

Thank you Buccaneers! This is a great ride.

    Clod

I had my doubts too. Always better to wrong and win than wrong and lose.

Just ask every player, fan, and coach of the Chiefs- who just knew they were gonna rout our Bucs. There were many tears shes that night and that made me very happy.

Ken- we own that ledge and I refuse to give it up. Might need it here in a few years and would hate to have to push a fan of another team off of it to get it back.

  11. Youngbucs Says:

Tom Brady has the highest win percentage in any of the major sports. Why would you bet against him?

  12. Joe Says:

    Good call WesternBuc!

The media are hacks. Well, most of them, not you, Joe.

    🙂

Another one who’s been all his life, Rob Parker. That man isn’t good enough to call high school football!

Draft Day is an amazing movie. Of all the dramas about professional football, it feels the least dramatized and most authentic.
