Tom Brady Playing At 50? Tap The Brakes

June 18th, 2021

Talks about his future.

Remember when Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht offered his franchise quarterback a helluva deal?

Earlier this year, Licht said the way (OK haters, take a deep breath — you know what’s coming) park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady is playing, he will keep a roster spot for him until he’s 50.

At age 43 last year and not knowing the playbook, teammates, and with no benefit of an offseason or preseason, Brady still was one of the better quarterbacks in the league.

So Jori Epstein of USA Today asked Brady about Licht’s long-term offer. Let’s just say Brady was hesitant to make any commitment beyond his contract that expires after the 2022 season.

“50? That’s a long time,” Brady said. “Even for me, that’s a long time. “I’ve always said 45 was the age that I wanted to reach and that was my goal. This year I’ll be 44, so next year I’ll be 45. I got a two-year contract.

“I’m going to be able to obviously play this year and God forbid anything happens but play next year and then see what happens after that. If I still want to keep playing, I might be able to do that. And if that’s enough, then that would be enough.”

We do know Brady’s wife sure seems to want Brady to retire. Right after the Super Bowl when Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen embraced, Bündchen said to Brady, “What more do you have to prove?”

Joe wouldn’t be shocked if Brady led the Bucs to an undefeated season (the only thing Brady has not proven) and called call it quits as he held the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the final time.

DeSantis need to pass a law that make it illegal for Brady to retire in his 40’s

  2. FirstTimePoster Says:

Wouldn’t be shocked!?! I would. Ain’t gonna happen and that’s okay. Just focus on winning and not being perfect. Start thinking perfect and you tense up late in the season at 13-0 for example.

  3. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Undefeated is great but winning the Super Bowl again and being one step away from having the Bucs become a DINASTY is priceless!!!!

That would but the PERFECT ending to a career.

Going for 3 in a row. Baby!!!!!!!

  4. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    be

  5. WillieG Says:

“What more do you have to prove?”

Maybe she was challenging him? Maybe she wants a list so she can keep score?

    A guy can dream, right?

  6. Youngbucs Says:

I’m just waiting for the 🤡 to comment.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

When you talk about a team going undefeated, literally all you’re doing is setting yourself up for failure and fake drama if you “only” go 13-4.

If the defense plays like it did during the playoff run, and Brady stays 100% healthy, and Godwin and Evans don’t have their yearly run of injuries, and Gronk can play like he did in the SB — then sure, they should be very very good. But even very very good teams often have a few loses. If they can go undefeated and win the SB, then amazing, I’ll celebrate it then — but not in the summer before the season begins.

  8. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

There will always be those QB that kill it in there first ten years playing but try doing it consistently for 2 decades.

Everyone is touting Patrick Mahomes to be the next Tom Brady. Let’s see what Patrick does well into his 30’s. Brady is simply making this legacy so untouchable, others are going to have difficult times coming close to his records.

  9. BerrickDrooks Says:

and when he retires give him a coaching job.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

I could not see Brady being a coach, as we all know all-time great players are almost never good coaches. Also why would he retire as a player only to go on to coach, something that takes up even more time than what being a player did.

Once Brady retires I figure he’s going to enjoy his money and enjoy his life.

  11. gp Says:

Joe wouldn’t be shocked if Brady led the Bucs to an undefeated season (the only thing Brady has not yet proved), Brady would call it quits as he held the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the final time.

I have the feeling that the “hat trick” is also on his list.
As difficult as it will be for the rest of time for ANY quarterback to match what he has done in his career, the hat trick would be the icing on the cake.

BTW, any team that is NOT aiming to win every game played has already lost that opportunity and possibly the season!
Accepting mediocrity is exactly what bought us too many years of losing.

  12. SOEbuc Says:

“We all remember right after the Super Bowl when Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen embraced and Bündchen said to Brady, “What more do you have to prove?”

Probably because downtown Manhattan has better traffic and less lights than South Tampa.

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

Can someone tell me if BA preaches “Hey were going to lose this Game” No he does not. Win or lose, does not matter, you go for it. 20-0 all day, if they do not, whatever, life goes on. But you do not practice to lose. You do not lift all those weights to lose.
You go Balls to the wall. full speed ahead. Brady went 18-1, he wants it, and any other player wants it. Someone will do it one day, might as well be the Bucs.

Can just imagine what was being said about the Dolphins in the middle of their 1972 season.

Who cares about why they can not, or should not, WHATEVER,

And Like Herm Edwards said as the Jets coach ” you play to win the game”

I can still hear back in the 80’s when Nick Van Cleave of 98 rock would say “Time to crank up the Volume and rip off the knobbbbb”.

    GO BUCS!!!

  14. Duane Says:

I can only see him playing past 45 if he is in reach of a 10th ring. Maybe I underestimate his ambition, and he wants more rings than Bill Russell. He wants to play, the organization has worked hand in hand with him to make it happen the way he wants it to. Tom Brady is experiencing the best midlife crisis ever!

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

17-DASH-0 and playing till he’s 50! Why not?!

  16. Swampbuc Says:

Life after Brady will suck. We are spoiled.

  17. JimbobBucsFan Says:

If he gets a two-peat he might go for the three-peat!

Should the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team and franchise win two Super Bowl titles in a row there will surely be some staff turnover in early 2022!

  18. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Its all about the legs

His mobility in the pocket is his lifeline

Dan Marino probably can out throw half the QBs playing now but

once you cant escape the pressure and your mental timing clock goes astray

    its over”

    Kobe Faker

  19. rogertampabay Says:

20-0, and a threepeat, i think he wants both.

  20. PassingThru Says:

    @Kobe Faker

Brady doesn’t use his legs for much more than navigating a rather small space within the pocket. You’ll see him exit the pocket from time to time, but that’s rare. Quick processing after the snap is Brady’s game, which makes him less reliant on mobility. That’s a huge difference between Brady and Mahomes; Mahomes needs mobility as he doesn’t process the field like Brady, which is what made him vulnerable in the Super Bowl.

There should be concern about Brady’s legs though. Like baseball pitchers, it isn’t just the shoulder, it’s also the legs that powers the fastball. That’s when you see the throwing mechanics deteriorate, which affects location and makes them more vulnerable to shoulder injury. Older athletes do lose their legs, and that’s what needs to be monitored on Brady going forward.

  21. Marine Buc Says:

If TB stays injury free and in tiptop shape – even at age 50 he would probably be the best backup QB in the NFL.

  22. Allbuccedup Says:

I think he plays two more years irregardless what happens this year. Unless of course his body tells him different.

  23. Kyle Says:

Is Tom Brady really our quarterback???

  24. Kyle Says:

Im still in the haze…lol. go bucs

  25. Miller5252 Says:

I think Brady knows that the rules nowadays for QB’s allows them to take very little punishment and throw for as many yards as your arm can handle. I think seeing some of these new QB’s and the rules, he wants to make sure it dang near impossible to beat his records and SB wins. 8 SB wins would make it hard for Patty to beat him. Anybody can throw for 5000 yards now… even a third string back up to a gadget QB can do it. Brady wants to cement everything he accomplished so he will always be the goat in the NFL and possibly be the goat 🐐 of all athletes.

  26. Buczilla Says:

I’m putting nothing past this dude.

  27. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

I can only imagine how Oneilbucyall would feel if Brady played to 50 and kept winning. I can see the post now, any QB could do that if they have a good defense.

  28. sgrd0q Says:

The funny thing about Brady is how under-appreciated he is. And has always been. At any given time there has always been a “better” QB on paper (currently Mahomes) yet he wins year after year. The answer is not the strongest arm or the fastest legs. Instead it is his reading of defenses, making adjustments at the line, and going faster than anyone through the progression. Nobody does that better. Not now. And not in the last 20 years.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

I don’t believe he’s been unappreciated I think people who worship him they don’t understand the ones that don’t. Brady has been getting credit for everything when his teams win for a long time. The thing is that his teams have been discredit for every win . He played with hall of famers and even they get ignored. And to the rest of you if any of you believe that Brady was playing until he’s 50 then yall are just crazy and have a serious problem. But for now I hope he plays well and leave out walking off the feild than getting carried off the feild.

  30. Youngbucs Says:

    🙄🥱🥱🥱🥱

  31. PassingThru Says:

Great. Give me the list of Hall of Famers that Brady played with, Oneilbuc. You have 20 years of starters to go through, far more years than any other great QB you wish to compare him to.

    Back your BS.

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

Passingthru . He has some guys like Ty Law, Seymore, Moss, and they have players that’s probably going in later. Now answer my question because no one else never answered this question. How many top 5 defenses that Brady played with ?? How many bad defenses that Brady played with name one year they had a 15th rank defense in Brady career ?? Lol 😆🤣😂 I know ain’t no body going to answer that question !!

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

Now yall mad because Brady ain’t playing until he’s 50 like yall though 🤣lol 😆🤣😂. And it was real stupid for yall to believe that foolishness that the GM told yall lol 🤣😂 . You better hope he come back next year because if he don’t I think some of yall going to be crying 😭😢 lol 😆🤣. And most of yall will be gone because I think it’s a lot of you Patriots fans on this site now . And I will still be here rooting for my team and rooting for my new quarterback the one yall hate already and he haven’t played one down yet. I guess he will be the next scapegoat . BA ain’t never developed a quarterback on his own and I like BA but the truth is the truth. Young quarterbacks gets better when BA leaves them.

  34. PassingThru Says:

    @Oneilbuc

Brady & Moss never won a Super Bowl together, so your BS premise doesn’t fly.

Seymour and Law were along on the first three Super Bowls.

Of the remaining four Super Bowls, only Gronk is a shoe-in. I’d like to see some Bucs, but considering their lack of national recognition, it might not happen.

Seymour, Law and Gronk. That’s three Hall of Famers out of seven Super Bowl victories. So you were saying some BS about Brady winning Super Bowls because of Hall of Famers? You’re talking out of your posterior.

    Happy Juneteeff oneILLbucsfan🖖🏻👏🏻✊🏻😁

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Buckaroo . I will be celebrating the same way you celebrate the 4th of July a holiday I never celebrate. But I know what you trying to do . You trying to be funny and you trying to insult me and my people . But what you say don’t mean nothing because you a coward .

  38. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs you the 1 who ducks questions. Is it win time for winston or you still gonna make excuses???? When does it end?????? Do you have standards for him this year ???? Or are you gonna #still blame the bucs??? Can’t wait to hear your new excuses Sean Peyton sucks. The saints organization is trash etc etc

  39. Youngbucs Says:

Brady is the constant 21 years you 🤡. Never a losing season never missed the playoffs. Everything changes around him but it doesn’t matter. Find a new hill to die on baby rob parker you’re pathetic.

  40. Youngbucs Says:

Brady defenses so good they cost him 3 Super Bowls. His defense so good he had to have a gm winning drive in all his Super Bowls except with the Bucs go figure. Yea get your loser a$$ out of here. You worship a career loser who has been #1 in turnovers for 5 straight years. Who’s in denial us or you mad because the goat replaced a career loser!!!!

  41. Anonymous Says:

So , all the great QBs sucked because they had good defenses and HOFers. Montana, Bradshaw, Aikman, etc, etc, etc. All had many more HOFers than Brady. Brady has had what. 3-4 in 21 years. Pats are near the bottom of the league. These are facts

  42. Hodad Says:

What more does he have to prove? Nothing, he just enjoys playing the game. That’s what it really comes down to with Brady, the love of the game. He set a goal of playing at 45. I think he makes that goal no matter what happens, win, or lose.

  43. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs the only superbowl Brady won and he was on the field is one and that’s against the Falcons. The Gaints beat Brady up the field and down the feild. They miss the playoffs after the first superbowl lol 😆😂🤣 . Again I can care less about what Jamies do in New Orleans. I want to see if the bucs will develop Kyle Trask are is this the franchise where young quarterbacks career comes to die. Now I answer your question now answer mind how many top 5 defenses that Brady played with are even a 15th rank defense?

  44. Oneilbuc Says:

Anonymous good point bro but guess what back then it was about the team winning the superbowl not a quarterback winning a superbowl. The superbowl wasn’t a quarterback stat either like they have made it today. Brady is a all time great quarterback he’s good but you ain’t going to tell me that he was the only reason why that the Patriots was good . Even for us that’s the point with me so that’s why I ask those questions about all his defenses. I grew up in a time hearing about the 49ers in the 80s are the cowboys in the 90s and now in this new thing the media has discredit teams for surtan quarterbacks because I find odd that Wilson never gets credit for winning a superbowl some how it was because of his defense and runningback but all the other quarterbacks had the same thing but they get all the credit for winning. Even Phil Simms was a decent quarterback and he don’t get the credit for winning 2 superbowls. The media or no one will ever convince me that a win lost record are even a superbowl is a quarterback stat . The media has blinded yall with this quarterback win lost record .

  47. Oneilbuc Says:

    Youngbucs lol 😆😂🤣 you mad 😠 ? Lol 😆🤣😂

  48. PassingThru Says:

Got it. Brady didn’t earn it. Brady will stealing rings while J-Miss was stealing crab legs.
