Perfect Grade

June 23rd, 2021

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

How do you get better than a grade of an A+?

Is there such a thing? Is the only higher grade perfection? Or is an A+ perfect?

Either way, a man who makes a living grading talent coming out of college believes you cannot give Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht any better props. Matt Miller of The Draft Scout gave the Bucs an “A+” for their roster.

When the defending Super Bowl champions return everyone—all 22 starters and all coaches—from the previous season, it’s easy to feel great about their roster. That’s how the Tampa Bay Bucs look on paper as the team returns in-tact minus a few bit players and with the addition of a full draft class.

…The expectation will be a Super Bowl for the Buccaneers, and the early look at this roster shows they’re talented enough to repeat.

Joe thinks it’s easy to think and expect the Bucs could improve this fall. There are so many reasons, including the return of O.J. Howard for a full season. Vita Vea for a full season. Antonio Brown for a full season. The hopeful development of Joe Tryon.

These are fun times, Bucs fans. Remember before Tom Brady came to Tampa Bay, we prayed for nine wins somehow? What a world of difference it is now; missing the Super Bowl would fell like a failed season.

Almost? It would be a failed season Joe, Bar has been raised.

“[M]issing the Super Bowl would feel like a failed season.”

Well, that’s true every year, ain’t it?

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Division is a lock. Getting a first week bye in the playoffs should be the No. 1 goal. Then its just two wins to the SB. Barring injuries to key players, this team is just too talented and disciplined not to make it back to the SB. I’d love for them to meet up with the Chiefs again and kick their arses a second year in a row.

  4. Bobby M. Says:

Reality is the SB is very hard to win….or even get to on a consistent basis. As a long time fan, I’m happy to see we are in position to realistically compete for our division…and even conference but most importantly just make the playoffs. You get in the playoffs, anything can happen….as we saw last season. The key is you must play at a high level for 17 weeks in order to get in. With Brady & Co. that seems realistic.

“Almost? It would be a failed season Joe, Bar has been raised.”

But he never said almost… It’s crazy some people will try to argue against something they just made up on the spot. lol.

  6. Bird Says:

    You are so very right

9 wins Aka a previous winning season of 16 games was the simple goal for years and years.
I think current over /under is 11.5 wins for new 17 game season
Yup – taking the over on that in a heart beat

No reason they cannot win 13 games or more

  7. D-Rome Says:

Jason Licht deserves an A+. In fact, I could argue that he’s had the greatest off season in NFL history.

  8. Medicated Pete Says:

I wanna thank The Football Gods for everything 1st & foremost

  9. SlyPirate Says:

I’d still like to see the Bucs get a little deeper on the D-Line.

Geno Atkins would be a great rotation with Gholston and Suh.

Good times. It is a pity Brady doesn’t have another five years in him.. Or does he?

  11. BerrickDrooks Says:

Football Gods have blessed Tampa Bay.

i would love to see another vet cb added to the roster before the season starts. but kuddos to licht for getting the entire band back together. thats an amazing feat

Let’s hope the organization doesn’t start to enjoy the smell of their own farts… All the offseason accolades, hype, and expectations are making me a little lightheaded.

  14. SOEbuc Says:

Weinfield Jr is going to go off year two. Gonna be throwin up the deuces x2.

  15. Duane Says:

I will take it a week at a time, but we got all pros, and a few guys looking to break out on this roster. I definitely see a bunch of individual efforts cancelling each other out for POY awards, but a team filled with those players gets the wins.

  16. Pine Hills Says:

Brady played 21 seasons with 10 SB trips.
If we make it this year that would put him at exactly 50% conference championship rate sustained over more than two decades.
    Unbelievable!

  17. Bucnjim Says:

Getting the talent on a team is tough but managing the egos extremely tough. Need to give Arians credit because I think this is one of his biggest strengths

  18. Rod Munch Says:

How about a healthy Chris Godwin and Mike Evans — if they could actually stay healthy for a season, it would be the biggest upgrade of all. Mike was basically playing on one leg for half the season and Godwin wasn’t on the field for half the season. If those two could just stay healthy and play at anything close to 100%, that would be huge since it opens up everything else – or it means Brady is throwing for 5500 yards and 50 TDs because teams try covering them one-on-one.

There’s lots of reasons the team could be better, but they still have Blaine Gabbert as backup QB, and they’re one injury away from being a 4-13 team because of that.

  19. Soggy Says:

I still got to pinch myself, is this real.. I am still gitty from the superbowl winning season, Props to the whole bucs org..

  20. Sport Says:

    Truly amazing!

Although, I would lump OJ into that last sentence with Tryon as hopeful development.

The good news is…we’ve proven we can win a SB without either one of them. OJ can be thankful for Gronk taking blocking assignments.

What he she be doing is working his A$$ off to be nearly as good as either of the two who started and had major contributions to the Bucs winning the SB.

    Go Bucs!

    In BA I Trust!
