This shouldn’t surprise Bucs fans. Sadly, it may surprise too many NFL movers and shakers.
Bucs fans who have been watching Lavonte David since he was drafted in the second round in 2012 have seen just how damn good he is — yet year after year he gets stiffed for the Pro Bowl. It’s why David has, unfortunately, earned the label as the most underrated linebacker in the game.
So it is refreshing to see prickly Pete Prisco in his annual NFL Top-100 list rank David in his top-50, and also note that David for years has been in the NFL’s cream of the crop.
He remains one of the best off-the-ball linebackers in the game. His ability to dissect and chase down plays with his speed is a big part of the Tampa Bay defense.
The Super Bowl demonstrated just how good David is. He was tasked with covering one of the best tight ends in the game if not a future Hall of Famer, Travis Kelce.
And David was in Kelce’s head, frustrating him to no end, all but taking Kelce out of the game.
David will have his name up in the Buccaneers Ring of Honor someday. It’s cool as hell to know that during that same future ceremony, he will also be flashing his Super Bowl ring.

It’s impossible to know all the players when you’re supposed to cover all 32 teams. Guys like Pete are for entertainment purposes only

Bucs fans know he’s bin a stud since day. Glad he’s starting to get some recognition but still it’s not enough for how long he’s being doing it. He’s a all pro on and off the field. Name another play that is more underrated

So sad to see that the truth of David’s game in the sb may one day be forgotten because of stats. Stats officially say that kelce had 133 yards, most ever in a s.b. by a tight end. An amazing example of stats lying. He was ineffective for most of that game, LVD was in his head.

For as good as LVD started with “the fighting Schianos” When Lovie came LVD had a couple year lull, Lovie “Coach my Scheme” really never understood how to use LVD and it kind of set LVD back a little. We can all go back and watch the film, but kind of painful to see LVD wasted by Lovie. It was like what happened, most thought at the time when Lovie took over, that LVD would excel in Lovies Defense, but that did not happen. Thank God that is long ago now, because LVD is a straight baller. He had a better start to his career the D Brooks, if anyone remembers. So that is one thing that will not help him when it come to the Hall of Fame. Again LVD is a straight baller, and very glad he never left and is now enjoying playing for a winner, and not just winner, but he is a World Champion now! GO LVD!!!! GO BUCS!!!!!

With the Bucs on national tv he’ll finally get some love from everyone outside of Tampa. He just needs to show up during those games. Besides the SB he really didn’t have good games on prime time last year. How awesome would it be for 2 Tampa pro bowl inside linebackers and all pro. Cant wait!

By the end of this season, LVD and other deserving Buccaneers will be household names nationally. Casual fans and national pundits are catching up to that which hard-core football fans have been aware of for many years.
