Ranking The Classes
May 6th, 2021Famous for his “The Beast” draft guide, top draft guy Dane Brugler of The Athletic decided to rank every NFL team’s draft class, No. 1-32.
And while Brugler isn’t really big on the Bucs’ draft — he has them at No. 22 — Brugler does thinks the Bucs found production.
Favorite pick: Joe Tryon, edge, Washington
The No. 32 player on my draft board, Tryon was drafted in that exact spot as the Buccaneers got stronger at edge rusher. He is still learning how to streamline his skills, but he has impressive traits with his size, athleticism and competitive nature to become a starter in Year 2 for Tampa.Day 3 pick who could surprise: Grant Stuard, LB, Houston
I don’t know if Tampa will be able to find a position for him in base, but he will be an easy player to spot on special teams coverages. He will be the guy with the flowing long hair and relentless energy who consistently blows up blocks and finds the football.
As for Tryon, it sure seems as if the Bucs will turn Tryon over to assistants and have them mold him. The way the Bucs assistants have developed talent the past two years, Joe has all the confidence in the world that Tryon might contribute late in the season when Jason Pierre-Paul needs to cut some snaps to save is legggs.
(Joe loves JPP to death and knows he was playing on a bum knee all season, but he sure faded down the stretch. JPP impacted games, yes, but not like he was earlier in the season.)
As for Brugler wondering if seventh-round-pick linebacker Grant Stuard can play in base defense, aw, hell no. C’mon, man. He might play a few snaps if Lavonte David or Devin White are hurt (pray that doesn’t happen), but there is virtually no way Stuard gets on the field in base defense this year.
But Joe does agree with Brugler that Stuard will be noticed on special teams.

Grant Stuard will probably be utilized as an in the box safety on short yardage etc…
I dont see him as an inside LB in the NFL.

Also note worthy – Grant played safety at Houston before last season… FYI.

Still 10 teams below us……picking 32 in every round does affect your picks…..I think this draft may depend on Trask & Darden…..if either one turns out to be a future starter, it was a good draft.
I’m thinking Hainsey will start eventually.

I cant wait to see Tryon play. He will be a great addition to our pass rush because we are not relying on him. He will help cut back JPP’s snaps to help keep him fresh for the long hall. The Giants had a GREAT 3 man rotation with JPP, Osi and Kiwi so I am hoping we can do the same.

Gator coaches went with mobile strong arm QB Philippe Franks … and then Slowfoot noodle arm , but accurate, on time, to the right guy, came along and burned the record books … so
The bottom line wins !
That and like every QB he will be working on his weaknesses full time with the best sports trainers on the face of the earth.
Nobody knows at this point, even Dingle

Kacey rodgers won dline coach of the year

3rd down and 5 yards or over -Passing downs for opposing teams qbs may be interesting

Well. we drafted 32nd and are ranked 22nd. Hmm. doesn’t that mean it was a good draft? Just wondering.

Stuard is intriguing. Guys with big hearts like him can go a long way.

Daily Coroner has a point and picks 1, and 3-7 were fair or better BUT we left value on the table.

When you draft 32nd and come out with the 22nd best draft, that’s winning.
May 6th, 2021 at 10:42 am
No one should rank the draft winners-losers until 3-4yrs down the road..2yrs min.
Example: Right after the 2016 draft – Bucs looked like they had a good to excellent draft – even w/ the trade up in 2nd for a K (which EVERYONE questioned)….Securing a #1 CB, an explosive OLB/Edge & a sure legged NCAA All-Time great K through the 1st 2 rounds…Plus rotational support at T / CB / LB & FB before it was all over….Looking back now? Not so much. Was a Hella Flop!

Joe mentioned right after he was drafted that the Bucs ought to give this guy a spin at safety.

In theory, very true.
You must remember we live in a society where people wig out if their texts are not returned in 30 seconds. You expect fans to wait two years to get a draft grade??? 🙂

I get it Joe… Click Bait matters!

Marine. Are you saying we can actually imprive on short yardage D? Thats pretty scarry to think about.

I’m thinking Hainsey will be our Center eventually.
He sure is a versatile Lineman
May 6th, 2021 at 12:30 pm
We already had Joe Dirt on our team so I think we should call Stuad Kid Rock.
Two legendary icons of the South.

Stuard is too slow….that coming from a guy that is far slower…me.
May 6th, 2021 at 4:01 pm
Stuard has run between 4.52 and 4.62. That’s better than most 225 LB.

That was a four man rotation with Justin Tuck also in there. They routinely put all four on the field on 3rd and long and had them get after it.
