Media Lockout Report

May 27th, 2021

Busy understudies

Media largely was banned from the Buccaneers’ practice yesterday, Day 2 of offseason training activities known as OTAs.

Why this occurs, Joe isn’t quite sure. But it is common around the NFL. Teams don’t like media watching every practice, or part of every practice. As Joe has written previously, football coaches are a paranoid bunch. College, NFL, high school — most crave secrecy.

However, it’s official that one media member was in attendance and taking notes: Carmen Vitali of the Bucs’ official website.

She shared a few observations from yesterday’s practice session, and Joe has highlights of her highlights.

*Fourth-round pick Jaelon Darden is looking very good at his receiving craft and is getting more in sync with rookie QB Kyle Trask.

*Rookie LB Grant Stuard has coverage skills, and fellow rookie K. J. Britt is taking a ton of reps Britt alongside Stuard, which presumably means Bucs veterans aren’t practicing.

*Outside linebacker Cam Gill had a bat down that led to a pick, and second-year safety Javon Hagan made a diving pick.

The Bucs are back on the practice field today, Day 3 of OTAs before a break that extends to Tuesday, and traditional media was told to stay away from today’s session.

Lol. Of course they have to tell us Trask is improving lots. Have no doubt about Darden. The rookie LBs seems like we could at least get one diamond if not the and Gil can play some ball.

    “newcomer veteran safety”?

He was a UDFA last year and spent most or all of the year on the P.S. Not really a newcomer or a real veteran.

Joe dont feel bad. I just spent a entire year locked out of my childs school. So its not just you. Theres something wrong with the world.

  5. Swampbuc Says:

I think Cam Gil might be the guy no one is talking about who emerges and has a Carl Nassib 2019 kind of season.

  6. Pewter report Says:

Press on doesn’t matter much this year even though I’ll still watch but hoping not to see too much of anyone of the rookies because it may mean there are key injuries.
