”I’ve Been Studying Like Crazy”

May 14th, 2021

Kyle Trask

Rookie Bucs QB Kyle Trask might have a very tired arm this afternoon.

The second-round pick is the only quarterback at Bucs rookie minicamp.

Following today’s morning walk-through, Trask talked with local media and shared that he’s yearning to show Bucs coaches his pocket athleticism and quickness, things he worked on after his University of Florida season ended.

Yes, Trask wants everyone to believe he’s a mobile-enough dude, but he’s also trying to showcase his football brain.

”I’ve been studying like crazy,” Trask said. ”I’ve been picking the plays up at a good pace, so far.”

Two weeks into study of the Tampa Bay playbook, Trask said he sees similarities to UF offense, which is making his transition easier.

Trask artfully dodged a question about whether he was gunning to win the No. 2 quarterback job.

Hopefully 2-3 years “at least” before he gets a chance to be the Starter. Long way to go, but Trask has what it takes, but as we all know, you have to prove it on the field of play. GO BUCS!!!!

Does anyone know which name “the realist” is going by now days?

Once TB12 takes Trask under his wing in OTA’s I can see him as #3 on depth chart
this season and moving into #2 the next…

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Trask is going to be a gem in 2-3 years and hopefully has some evans still here to throw to

I think it was a great pickup. He has similar physical traits as Brady. He will have to rely on mental acuity to succeed and Brady is just the guy to be that example. He is in a perfect position, hopefully he can capitalize.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Solid beard. He should grow it out Fitzpatrick-style.

You can have all the brain in the world, but that doesn’t create talent. Despite the cliche, sport is 95% physical, 5% mental. You can be the smartest player to ever play the game, if you don’t have the physical attributes to put that into action, it will all go for not…Trask will be a very decent career backup though.

Are you serious right now? Ever heard of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Joe Montana…..All of them had no physical ability they were all brain and look at what they did in the NFL. You have your comment backwards…. You need brain more than the ability to be a QB in the NFL. You have to quickly process information in the NFL because everything is so fast.

    No! Yu¢k!

  17. Anonymous Says:

BA and Licht believe that Trask “could be” 6’5 240, The physical is there. The Jury is out, until he actually plays. BA believes that he sees something that others do not. So we will see, for all we know Aaron Rodgers will be here one day playing QB and Trask never even gets a chance. GO BUCS!!!

  18. mark2001 Says:

True TT. They are patiently waiting to hop back on the Jameis train of pain.

  19. Buccanstopit Says:

Career backups are not drafted in the first 2 rounds, they expect them to take over one day.

  20. mark2001 Says:

Disagree Red…. it is more like 60/40. Plenty of these prospective players have similar physical skills. In fact, some of the better players have inferior physical skills compared to the very best. As an example, guys like Lynch and Barber used their brains to become the best in the business.

And you sound like the guys that think coaching and culture don’t make any difference…it is all about physical skills. Nope.

  21. Jason Says:

Trask trows for 7 TDs and 2 INTs this year. All in the 4th quarter of games.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

All I care about is seeing his arm making NFL throws with velocity, because if he can’t do that, he can’t play in the NFL. It will be interesting to see if there are any leaks that come out talking about that. In any case we’ll start to see stuff in training camp and I hope the Bucs know what they’re doing. If he can show an NFL arm, then I think he can play, at least well enough to be a Mike Glennon level backup. As far as mobility goes, he’s mobile enough, moves similar to Jameis who moved really well and was really hard to take down. He says coaches timed him at 4.98 in the 40, which was the same time as Winston, I believe. So I don’t think that is a legit issue.

  27. Bucsfanman Says:

Hey, he just needs to put in the work. We’ll know if he can play or not soon enough. Lets hope it’s not too soon.

  28. Elita Vita Says:

This whole learn under Brady thing may work out and Task could surprise. He seems diligent enough and will put in the time needed. Who knows perhaps Trask will be on the TB 12 method and will succeed!

    —————————————

So having arm strength doesn’t equate to physical ability ??? Having the right touch doesn’t equate to physical ability??? Being able to avoid a blitz doesn’t equate to physical ability??? Having a quick release doesn’t equal physical ability??? These are all things that Trask lacks, which is what made it necessary to even address them. Y’all hear physical ability and all y’all think is fast. I don’t even like these new school running QBs. Physical ability is anything that you do based off the motion of your body. You can be the smartest person in the world, if your body doesn’t have the ability to do what your mind says to do, it doesn’t matter. Brady is smart, but his smarts only work because he can translate those smarts with his physical ability.

    ————————————

I couldn’t disagree with you more. Lynch and Barber were great players, but to suggest that they didn’t have physical ability is silly at best. They knew where to be on certain plays, I agree. But the still had to physical ability to react to what their brains processed. There are tons of people as smart as those guys who never made it that far because they didn’t have the physical ability.

  31. Mike Says:

Trask is not a physical specimen by any means but he has shown the ability to make all the throws and make quick decisions with the ball. Mechanics can be coached and strength can be gained. He has a chance to develop into a Brad Johnson type over time. A game manager who makes good decisions with the football and displays accuracy and touch.

  32. Redblud Says:

Mike, and that’s perfect for a backup QB in 2021…

  33. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Regarding Realisto and a couple of others … Is it possible they crossed a line here at JBF and have been “banned”?

  34. Allbuccedup Says:

With exception of Tom Brady, and of course Steve Young and Doug Williams the Bucs have a history of not so good Quarterbacks. So Trask does not have to set the world on fire as a Quarterback right away.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Mike – He literally hasn’t show that, his college tape is Danny Wuerffel, it’s all soft touch passes that are INTs in the NFL. That’s why he was the last pick of the 2nd round, at his size and with his production, if he showed he had a good arm and “could make all the throws” he would have been in the 1st round. Now, to be clear, I’m not saying he doesn’t have the arm, his pro-day taped showed he might have an adequate arm, but his college tape does not show much of anything that would translate to the NFL. But, in fairness to him, what he was doing was working, so just zipping the ball to show scouts you can do it shouldn’t be a thing, and from the tape I’ve seen, 95% of his college throws wouldn’t work at the NFL level.

Throwing a 50 yard rainbow that hangs in the air doesn’t prove you have a strong arm, throwing a 35 yard pass over the middle, on a rope, that is showing you have an NFL arm, throwing a 50 yard pass with some zip, that’s a strong arm.

I sound more negative on him than I actually am, but no one should be saying he can make all the throws, he’s not shown that, even his pro-day he showed he can make SOME of the throws. That might be good enough if he’s exceptional at other things, but it’s not a slam dunk.

It’s not like what I’m saying isn’t well known by scouts, and the Bucs scouts and coaches, from what Arians has been saying, are telling him he can do everything. So we shall see.

In any case I want the kid to succeed and for us not to have wasted a 2nd rounder – so I’m not rooting against him, just being legitimate about what I see when I watch his college tape.

Trask doesnt choke…winston really did have the talent but he choked, even with good mental skills coaching i bet.
All this physical stuff is negated if you are a choker.
The big names like wilson, rodgers, rothlesburger, mahomes and of course brady dont choke. Physically many others are as good otgerwise.
Chokers overthink at the wrong time.
Trask is worth the gamble that he can improve physically. Its not the top pick its a speculative pick.
One day winston may change but they had to try what they did w brady

  37. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Rod, just remember your buddy Jay Miss has a great arm! He absolutely sucks as a starting QB in the NFL, but he has the arm to make all the throws, the head to f#ck everything up and no mental awareness in the pocket, which is why he continually fumbles.

How do you throw for 69 Tds to only 15 INTs without Touch, Accuracy, ability to avoid the rush and making good Decisions?????????????/
Do they actually allow you keys to a car?

Is it possible I can come here and not see any mention of long lost and forgotten posters who dont mean jit to anyone anymore? Why mention them when theyve been long gone…jeeze!

Anyways, I like this kid so far…awesome attitude!

  43. Oneilbuc Says:

Allbuc. Is it the quarterbacks or the organization ?? You can’t keep telling me it’s the quarterback fault when the bucs never developed a quarterback . Even the Browns developed Kosor back in the day . And let’s set the record straight Belichick develop Brady. If Brady would have went to the lions you would have never heard of him because he would have been out of the league. Brady only threw 2 tds in the playoffs his first year starting. The Patriots developed Brady he was the third quarterback on the team . Brady didn’t even start in college so he deserved to be a 6th round pick that year . He went to a great organization that knew how to develop a quarterback. So I wish people would stop with the Brady Belichick argument. Another nation media false narrative that yall bought in to lol 😆😂

  44. BelleGladeBuc Says:

Some Kyle Trask highlights vs Alabama

    1st Quarter 11:11

Trask fires a fifteen yard bullet to Pitts who is facing man coverage with safety help over top. Fits the ball perfectly into a very tight window.

First TD pass = 3 second release perfect over the shoulder 45 yard pass in the air (threw it at his 40 and hit Tooney at the opponents 15) hitting the speedster Tooney in stride for a 50 yard TD.

Also love the back shoulder 50 yard TD throw Trask threw to Grimes, picking on stud Alabama CB Surtan.

This game film dispels all of the myths about Trasks and his arm strength.

Anybody who says otherwise after watching that film doesn’t know football.

Believe your own eyes, or the liars who say what you saw didn’t happen.

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

Kyle Trask is my guy I just hope the bucs give him a running game and give him the plays he does good doing .
