Buccaneers Select LB K.J. Britt In Round 5
May 1st, 2021Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht has gone back to the University that brought him Super Bowl cogs Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis (and Peyton Barber).
Tampa Bay’s fifth-round pick is Auburn linebacker K.J. Britt. And count on him being a special teams piece, assuming he can make the roster.
Britt stands 6-0, 235, and was a four-year starter at Auburn, so Licht surely saw plenty of him on tape over the years. He became a starter in 2019 and was second-team All-SEC. His play last season earned him a Senior Bowl trip, but his 2020 season was cut short by a thumb injury.
Britt earned a lot of praise for staying in a leadership role in the program despite his injury sidelining him.
Make no mistake, Britt is a hard-hitting linebacker and a special teams piece. Don’t let his size fool you; he’s not a project safety or anything like that.

Unfortunately this is likely Jack C’s replacement for special teams and depth.

He’s a one-two down linebacker that plays downhill and is a violent tackler. He’s just slow given his size, and cannot cover very well. 25 years ago he’s a second round pick.

A little birdie down the wire said if Derrick Barnes was on the board in the 4th, the Bucs would have taken him.
Looks like this is plan B.
In BA I Trust.

Good special teams fortification today. Needed after watching the Saints abuse our punt coverage unit in the playoffs.

Very limited athlete. Will struggle to see the field as a defender. I would have preferred we get a core special teamer that has backup or starter potential.

Wait til he gets in the LB room with a LSU Tiger, who know Get Live 45 is going to be all over him

Might regret picking this guy over Moses.
