Bandwagon Jumping

May 25th, 2021

New Lightning fan.

So it seems Bucs stud right tackle Tristan Wirfs took a break from carrying trees and throwing an ungodly amount of weight in the air, and jumping out of pools and other beastly things, to watch hockey.

Up in Iowa, outside of maybe minor league hockey or Big Ten hockey, there isn’t much hockey happening, certainly not the NHL.

From where Wirfs lives in Mount Vernon, it’s quite a hike to go to an NHL game. Probably the closest is Chicago, over a three-hour drive. Next-closest would be five hours to St. Louis or St. Paul, Minn.

But now that Wirfs plays in a town of champions, both his own team and the local NHL squad (the Lightning), Wirfs has come clean.

He took to Twitter over the weekend when the Lightning pulled within a game of clinching their opening playoff series with the Stinking Panthers and confessed if he’s going to represent Tampa, he has to go whole hog (you see how Joe worked in an Iowa reference there?).

Joe never knew they made NHL sweaters big enough to wrap around Wirfs. Woo!

Wirfs is such a freakish athlete, wouldn’t it be cool to see him play defenseman? Imagine a winger trying to get around Wirfs without being splashed against the boards?

And pity the poor fool who would try to cut in front of Andrei Vasilevskiy with Wirfs hanging out near the crease?

Meanwhile, Joe hopes the Lightning enjoyed their morning skate and finish the job tomorrow.

As for Wirfs becoming a Lightning fan? Welcome aboard, Tristan!

They better play with more juice than last night. Outside the first 53 seconds, the entire team outside Vasi was flat.

I love how Joe keeps the Stinking moniker for the Panthers even in the NHL!😂

Outside of NFL playoff overtime, which is rare, game 7 overtime playoff hockey is as exciting as it gets in sports

Hockey and ale is like sex to people when you get up there near Canada.

If we’re talking hockey, can we throw in some Rays. 11W IN A ROW. GOT DAMN!✨

We had better win tomorrow in our game at home.
If we lose, the game goes back down there, with the series tied 3 games to 3.

    @SOEbuc Like? It’s better!

For all the praise the Bucs have gotten this year retaining their roster the Lightning may actually deserve more praise.

The Lightning have somehow managed to keep the core of a Championship team together for quite a few years now. Over all these years the biggest player I can argue they lost is Ben Bishop. After Ben we really didnt lose any player thats too critical and have been chasing the Cup year in and out.

They have done one heck of a job with the Lightning. Now, like the Bucs, they achieved the ultimate goal and achieved the even hogher goal of repeat!!

    TAAAAAMMMMMPPPPPAAAA!!!!!!

    Go Bolts!!

@Cobra. Unfortunately, Vasy was a little flat too. He would have wanted two of those goals back. The 20 year old Panthers goalie will be facing an angry Lightning team tomorrow night. I expect more than 1 goal.
