”Power Is Something You Can’t Teach”
April 30th, 2021Man, Bucco Bruce Arians is excited about his new edge rusher during his afternoon news conference.
Arians said edge rusher, first-round pick Joe Tryon has all the attributes the Bucs are seeking in a prospect. And Arians really emphasized passion and power. “Power is something you can’t teach,” Arians said.
Tryon stands 6-5, 260 pounds and is a handful.
Arians called him versatile and added that Tryon would be a “huge contributor on special teams right away,” adding “we got better right away” [on special teams].
Arians loves the raw pass rushing ability and tackling of Tryon. “When he closes on the ball, it’s impressive.”

Please don’t put this guy on special teams.
Not worth it. Protect his knees!

As somebody already mentioned, he doesn’t look 260 pounds. Must be all muscle. Wow.

BA sure doesn’t believe there were 15-20 better choices available at 32 last night. Still I can’t believe we picked him after 31 other teams passed on him!

JPP should mentor him like David did White, we could have something special for a long time

They basically ran to the podium Swamp. I think they really really liked this guy. It was probably the fastest pick of the night by a wide margin.

If you want something to listen to while waiting for the draft, checkout the Spotrac podcast. Those are the guys who do the sports salary cap stuff, and like everyone, they have a podcast, and they spent a solid half-hour talking about the amazing job that the Bucs did resigning everyone, and brought up a point I had heart before. They count ‘starters’ as meaning players who are on the field for various formations that are commonly used, so say you use a 4 WR set, they count WR3 and WR4 as a ‘starter’. They ended up with 29 ‘starting’ players for the Bucs and pointed out that they just returned all 29 players. Then they brought up in addition to that, they also signed a bunch of backups. I know all the guys we resigned as we were doing it, but I hadn’t really thought about the roster as a whole, and we didn’t just bring back all the starters, but nearly all the key backups – and with the draft, this team should be more talented than last year, which never happens with a SB winning team.
Also they pointed out that outside of Godwin, everyone basically had the chance to test the market and see what else was out there, and the Bucs didn’t low-ball anyone and still got everyone back, and how that should help team chemistry as you’re not going to have some taking less money to keep guys and resenting it.
Anywho it’s a good listen, at least the Bucs part. I like hearing opinions from out of town and that you normally don’t hear, so long as they know what they’re talking about.

Rod – Good points about the backups. I was surprised at how many reserve DLs we now have. Room for one more?

Swamp I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not? Did you just complain that we chose a player that 31 other teams “passed on”?? Huh?
You do know that’s like…..how a draft works, right? So anyone after the first pick in the draft isn’t going to be a good player since another team “passed” on them? This logic hurts my head….we may as well cancel the rest of the draft since almost every team had their chance to pick last night so no use in picking anyone else…

Hey Swampbuc…this just in….when you pick 32nd there’s going to be 31 teams that pass over your pick!!!

Great information and comment, Rod.
I’ll just add that I love that our franchise (owners, JL, BA and staff) realize that in order to repeat we are going to have to continuously raise the bar higher for ourselves. The Buccaneers have become a class organization with a real possibility of staying near the top for a long while.

I will look for their podcast unfortunately seems Cam Brate may of gotten the only bad deal–he had to renegotiate his salary and wasn’t an improvement. He is better than OJ too imho

@ Swampbuc. 31 teams would have passed on any guy we picked. Genius.

CJ – sarcasm
There was a dude, Aaron, who said that a couple times for real, and meant it.
Genius.
