Antony Auclair Signs With The Texans

From the penthouse to the outhouse.

Likely one of the few French-speaking NFL players, tight end Antony Auclair decided after getting a Super Bowl ring to cash in and go for the dough. So the solid-blocking man from Quebec signed with Houston, per good guy and indefatigable Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

In four seasons, Auclair has 10 career receptions for 84 yards and zero touchdowns, playing in 40 career games with 20 starts.

Auclair is a good blocker and Joe thought he improved his pass-catching skills. Obviously, playing behind foot-rubbing, car-littering Rob Gronkowski, Cam Brate and O.J. Howard, Auclair wasn’t going to see much playing time outside of fourth down.

And speaking of special teams, Auclair was solid if not good. In eight games last season, Auclair played 83 snaps on special teams. So the Bucs’ special teams have taken a hit in the past week with gunner Ryan Smith bolting to the Chargers for money.

Joe sort of feels bad for Auclair. Going from a Super Bowl-winner to that circus down there where your quarterback is about to be suspended (or jailed) and your defense is led by Lovie Smith and Vernon Hargraves? Woof!

Back to the future for Auclair. Au revoir, Antony.

We are loaded at the TE position.

His Special Teams spot will be filled in the draft.

Can’t fault a guy for going where the $ is.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

He is also behind Tanner Hudson…..let’s face it, we were going to lose guys like this……Andrew Adams, Ryan Smith, Auclair….& there will be others…..backups…ST players….our draft picks will replace them.

  3. '79 Defense Says:

What a gig. Earning millions of dollars over the past several years for catching 10 passes. Oh, and playing special teams.

  4. Colin in Canada Says:

Special teams are taking a hit. We need the back end of the roster to be legit special teamers instead of crusty old vets who want a ring.

  5. SB~LV Says:

Good for him ! I hope he gets more PT after all that is what it’s all about. Simply too much talent here .

  6. Buc4evr Says:

Good player looking for more playing time and a chance to start. Wonder about the QB situation with the Texans at this point. Hope is getting guaranteed money as that team is a total mess right now.

  7. Defense Rules Says:

Always liked Antony; blue-collar guy who may not have shined like Gronk, Cam or OJ but who just kept plugging & giving it his best. Good luck with the Texans.

  8. FlBoy84 Says:

Not sure it was about the $$ as much as getting an oppt to see the field more often. Can’t fault the guy for wanting to play. He made $1.25M last yr as a Buc, chances are he’s probably getting $2M or so from Houston.

  9. gbobucsfan Says:

Is it a bad thing that our special teams is getting a facelift?

  10. SteveK Says:

and your defense is led by Lovie Smith and Vernon Hargraves? Woof

    Woof indeed!

  11. Bird Says:

The texans are like a dog turd you just lit on fire
Hey – if the man wants playing time …good for him…

I cant believe the head coach was like “yes …get lovie smith in here pronto…great defensive mind…he will be a difference maker for our team..”. 😂

I hope the players dont curse around him 😂

  12. HeyItsAdam Says:

I’ll take Auclair’s availability and guts over Howard’s potential.

  13. Bradinator Says:

Lost our blocking TE. Guy worked hard, sad to see him go. Hope he has good luck with the Texans and wish him well.

  14. BT Says:

Always supported the Pride of Quebec. Hope he does well.

  15. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

ST needed work anyway maybe it’s time to focus on that phase since that was a clear weakness for the Bucs last season. If Harris didn’t get hurt may of cost Bucs NO playoff game.

  16. bucfanforever Says:

If you think about it, special team’s kick/punt returns and coverage was by far the worst part of our team last season. It was almost like watching an Aguayo FG attempt. I would have to watch because there was a high chance they would let a guy break away for 35 yards. Maybe letting these guys move on is part of the plan to improve.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

lovie is back in the NFL as DC while smitty and dirk are both jobless….lol…

proof that dirk and smitty were the worst coaches in bucs history….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  18. Cobraboy Says:

    @HeyItsAdam: Availability?

The last two seasons Auclair has missed 16 games.

The Bucs need to douche their ST’s anyway. Worst in the league, need new, clean, eager blood in there…

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

Auclair always played hard, and did his job.
I believe he has some starter potential, but wasnt gonna happen here.
Sucks its the Texans, but hopefully he shines enough, to go to a real team.
    Best of luck, Mr. Auclair.

  20. Mike Says:

He was a good role player for the Bucs. Good for him getting paid.

  21. Hope springs eternal Says:

With Gronk and OJ bucs have enough run blocking tight ends who double as great receivers. Auclair was a luxury now so good luck to him and his new future.

  22. Sumosam Says:

Auclaire is loss but without a doubt, Andrew Adams is the biggest loss so far.

  23. Irishmist Says:

That minor in Massage therapy might just pay off.

  24. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Lovie as the DC for Houston – I thought you were joking Joes. Had to look that up. What a joke that club is. Hargraves too – yikes!
