Playoff Lenny Is Popular

March 16th, 2021

Wanted.

It seems it isn’t just the Belicheats that want a Bucs postseason star.

Playoff Lenny became the first NFL running back since 2006 to score a touchdown in each of four postseason games as he helped guide the Bucs to the franchise’s second Super Bowl title.

Playoff Lenny, now a free agent, became rather popular with other NFL teams as a result of his playoff production. And Michael Giardi of NFL Network explains that even the NFL’s best coach has to get in line for Playoff Lenny.

Earlier this morning it was reported that Pete Carroll of the Seahawks is hot and heavy after Playoff Lenny — with Bill Belicheat watching from afar. And other teams have jumped in the pool, it seems.

Was that Twitter from Albert Breer a perfectly-timed drop-in-the-lap by Playoff Lenny’s agent to stir the pot to gin up interest in his client. It all of a sudden went from Tom Brady, Carroll and maybe Belicheat to “several” teams in a couple of hours. Hhhmmmn?

He’ll almost certainly take more money elsewhere which is probably the right move for him. Jones is a better runner at this point. We just need to grab the third down back type. White would fit the bill. Jamal Williams would be more of a complete back who could actually share time with Jones but he’ll have a bigger price tag.

  2. Brandon Says:

I hope we allow one of the other teams to sign him. RBs in their second contract are historically bad. No sense in overpaying for a RB that wasn’t good for 80% of the season. Let him go, Rojo and his hands will continue to improve and draft a RB.

  3. Steven007 Says:

After free agency we should be in a position to pick purely the best available player at 32. That could very well be a running back.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Like most moves thus far, money and aspirations will dictate the situation. Lenny and Rojo make a good combo. If the money is right, do it.
    It’s really up to him.

I just find it so odd that the Patriots are getting less than average receivers in a draft with the best wide receiver depth.

They took two free agent Tight ends after just last year drafting two in the 3rd round last year.

The trade for a good offensive lineman just to move up in the 4th, 5th and 6th round.

They pay one of the most to a free agent linebacker when they drafted linebackers in the 2nd and 3rd round last year.

Now they are looking at running backs when they took one in the 1st round in 2018 and another in the 3rd round in 2019.

Then there is Cam. I am sure that their defense will be fine. But where is the imagination between BB and McDaniels on offense. I think Brady just saved them every year on offense and BB just does not get it.

  7. theodore Says:

I’m pretty sure agents are flat out paying for these tweets. Yates’ twitter feed is basically an agent PR feed.

  8. ClodHopper Says:

Good for Fournette. He could have made some bad choices this year when he was unhappy. But the millennial whisperer got his mind right and now he’s in for a good payday. I’m happy for him!

  9. Bucfan81 Says:

Let Playoff Lenny go…We need to be focusing on brining SUH back.

  10. Bojim Says:

    Good for you Lenny.

  11. Robert Says:

same will happen with AB if they don’t lock him up fast. He is a MUST sign IMO. the value there is insane for what he brings to the table.

  12. Winny Testaverde Says:

Belicheat is bathing in “Desperation” cologne…2 TEs after drafting 2 in the 3rd round last year ( total stat line for both combined: 5 catches for 55 yards…both less than Gronk in the SB )…reminds me of someone who was dumped only trying desperately to make the ex/Brady jealous.

  13. Tc Says:

We want all of them back and white for LeSean McCoy

  14. Cainishere Says:

Sorry to say this but Rojo cannot catch a cold let alone a football. We need to develop Vaughn and see if he is the answer to our RB needs as a pass catcher.
Brady simply needs a RB who can catch passes.

  15. Noles Says:

Looks like Marlon Mack will b available on 1yr deal to prove he is healthy

I wouldn’t mind signing him if price is right

He is better than James White

  16. timbucs2 Says:

I love Lenny, and will never forget what he did for us in the postseason. I also wouldn’t mind a back who doesn’t juggle or drop every pass.

Lenny has earned a big payday. More power to him!

  17. David Says:

Not a big deal. Rojo’s only downfall was his blocking wasn’t as good. I expect him and Vaughn to be the duo and I expect their blocking to improve with an off-season.
For everyone saying Rojo can’t catch- cainishere- Fournette dropped just as many, he was just given more chances because he was in there more in the passing downs as a blocking back.
That will improve with better route running and a full off-season.
Vaughn was a real good receiver out of the backfield in college.

  18. Jazzy Says:

    Please take him.

  19. gotbbucs Says:

His agent is working hard. Good for him.

I don’t want to see my team spend big money on a guy that didn’t start trying hard until he knew the camera’s were on.
Fournette ran in the regular season like he had money on his team losing each game.

    Lenny – 3.8 ypc avg

    ROJO – 5.1 ypc avg

  20. ben Says:

Are you kidding me ?? Jones can’t catch period. Run,yes but catch. haaaa

  21. Miller5252 Says:

AP and White can come replace Lenny for league minimum and a little more for White. With Gronk back the running game will again be really good this year. Watching film on Gronk just opening holes for the backs last year was great! Something OJ and Brate can’t do on their best days.

  22. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

Why does Lenny’s amish beard agitate me

  23. Mtbucsfan Says:

Would love to have him back but at this point AP seems like he would pay the bucs to play here.

  24. gotbbucs Says:

Why on earth do some of you people want Adrian Peterson? Good God, have some standards and limits.
I wonder if Jim Brown has any interest in making a come back? Maybe we can lure OJ Simpson out of retirement? The corpse of Walter Payton perhaps?

  25. Eric Says:

Jones should have scored from the one in the Super Bowl. Which could have cost us dearly. But he also made a lot of big plays.

  26. Cainishere Says:

David, It is true that all of the Buccaneers RBs had difficulties in catching passes but Lenny was by far the best option. Ronald Jones cannot catch period. H managed 28 completions and numerous incomplete attempts. Whereas Lenny caught 36 with numerous incompletes as well. those numbers by both are in the unsatisfactory range for the type of QB Brady is.

  27. Mtbucsfan Says:

Didnt say I wanted AP but if it comes down to cap space and needing some one still half decent I’d take him at veterans minimum. I want suh ab and succop more than fournette. Would prefer to have them all but Kenny is probably getting good money thrown at him by seattle and the bellicheats.

  28. lambchop Says:

If Russ leaves the Hawks, both teams are dead ends for Playoff Lenny if he wants to remain “Playoff” Lenny.

  29. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Rojo is a better runner but Lenny has better hands. They compliment each other. Too bad we are going to lose Lenny. If Ke’Shawn Vaughn can step up his game, then he would seamlessly take Lenny’s spot as a patch catcher and second runner.

  30. BillMFL Says:

Rojo and Ke’ should make an excellent duo next season, but, the Bucs need to draft a really good rookie for depth. And hopefully sign White for 3rd downs. Running backs take a pounding. Got to be at least 3 deep (if 4net leaves).

  31. Cannon Says:

It seems that the most common line of thought from everyone is… “Good for you Lenny. Thank you, sincerely, for the damn good production when it counted. You earned your pay day.”

In other words, we’d love to have you stay, but you will likely make far more money at a different franchise.

In the end, it comes down to rings or money. I could see him going for the money, and I wouldn’t blame him one bit. If he stays, there are no guarantees that he will see the same production as he did in 2020. We have Rojo and Vaughn on the roster, and there are options available to us via free agency and the draft.

  32. Captain Blighe Says:

He asked to be released during the middle part of the season.
    Good Bye and Good Luck

  33. BigMacAttack Says:

Lenny did well and made some clutch plays. He also dropped a number of good passes. He can be replaced. Trade some picks to move up and get Najee Harris. We don’t need several draft picks. We need one great running back. Go for it.

  34. cmurda Says:

After free agency we should be in a position to pick purely the best available player at 32. That could very well be a running back.

You’re right Steven. I can’t even believe we are saying that but it’s true. The Bucs are pretty loaded at all positions. Now, it’s about best player available. For years we had countless needs every draft. Now, just depth. Huge props and thanks to Jason Licht,BA, BL, Bowles, and Tom Brady among many others. Devin White recently turned just 23. The future is really bright.

  35. snookman Says:

Somebody has to go……….I truley believe that signing Shaq, Godwin, Gronk, were more important that Fournett.

Its a numbers game………….The bucs found a way to maintain a superbowl caliber team for the most part…………….Great stuff
