James White Is Right For Bucs

March 11th, 2021

Landing spot points to Bucs.

Joe isn’t so confident the Bucs will add a running back this offseason.

Oh, it could happen. And Joe would love to see the Bucs draft Travis Etienne if he falls to No. 32, not a crazy thought given recent NFL draft history. (Remember, Clyde Edwards-Helaire fell to No. 32 last year and was selected by then-defending Super Bowl champ Kansas City).

Joe’s not yet ready to call running back a Bucs need.

One guy who thinks the Bucs will grab a veteran running back this offseason is Matt Bowen of BSPN. He thinks Belicheats running back James White is the perfect back for Tampa Bay and park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

Bringing White back should be a priority for the Patriots given his route-running traits out of the backfield. He’d be a stellar fit, however, reuniting with Tom Brady in Tampa. If there is one element to upgrade in the Bucs’ offense, it is the pass-game impact from the running back position. White would boost this offense given his ability to win underneath on flat routes and angles, plus his ability to find pockets of space on screen concepts.

In his final season with Brady in New England, White caught 72 of 95 targets for 645 yards and five touchdowns. White also would be a low-cost option for a Bucs team up against the salary cap.

Joe isn’t ready to go there. Depending on what happens with Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett, the Bucs might have to throw all of their leftover Team Glazer loot to try to bring in Bud DuPree and/or Von Miller and hope both are healthy.

Besides, Joe isn’t giving up on the Bucs’ running backs. Will Playoff Lenny stay put? Remember, Ronald Jones finally broke out last year. And Joe’s not throwing the towel in on Ke’Shawn Vaughn. The 2020 rookie looked smooth as silk catching his lone touchdown pass on the run.

So Joe isn’t so sure White will be a target in a week. It depends on many factors.

If it ain’t White, it ain’t right

  2. Kentucky Buc Says:

Whites family lives in Florida I believe. I’m sure he would love to be closer to them after the tragic death of his father last year. He took time off to be with them last season. That may play a big part in his decision making. You need to watch the film to appreciate Big Game James.

  3. August 1976 Buc Says:

lol What C Thomas said GO BUCS!!!

  4. Alaskabuc Says:

I don’t think Etienne is slipping to 32 Joe, but I’m with ya, would love to see Etienne in our backfield next year.

Can’t wait for Adrngy to read this article

    5.Age
    6.Great Hands
    7.Crunch time type player
    8.Teamplayer
    9.Consistency
    10.Brady

    Any questions.

  7. Bird Says:

No brainer. In whites 2 biggest years with brady he had more catches then mike evans same 2 years here . Thats nuts .

When i read that i could not believe it.

Joe – he would be here for way cheaper the lenny. And none of our guys have dependable hands. Not even close. Beadys completions / completion percentage/ yards all up. How many drips did our running backs have last year? Way to many

He could be had for 2.5 a year. Thats cheap. Who is going to give him more. The patriots ? They did not even care to use him last year.

  8. Bird Says:

    Drops not drips^^^

    Dang autocorrect on phone

  9. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

One more issue defenses have to worry about and other than Edleman & Gronk, White was TB12’s go to guy. Big game player. Bucs don’t need Fournett. Let Lenny go make some money her earned his respect.

  10. Buctank Says:

Burkhead is also a free agent and he may be a cheaper replacement then white but I don’t expect Bucs to bring back McCoy whether Lenny stays or not

  11. Stanglassman Says:

This guy is a perfect fit. We’ll find out if Tom really wants him.
Bucs just met with UCLA’s RB/WR Demetric Felton and they seem to like Memphis Rb Gainwell and NC Michael Carter so they’re interested in improving on catching the ball out of the backfield. This could also allow the Bucs more flexibility in the draft.

  12. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Joe says: “Joe’s not yet ready to call running back a Bucs need.”

Jaymiss says: “Jaymiss disagrees with Joesph. Lenny is most likely going to get paid by a team not named the Buccaneers. Some of our other RB’s will most likely be cut or not resigned – read Shady McCoy. That leaves us with a high ankle sprain or tweaked hammy away from a bare cupboard at RB. Sign a veteran FA RB and draft one of the UNC RB’s at 32 or better yet, trade back and sign one.

  13. Erick Says:

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

Let Fournette walk. Thank you for playoff run but he clearly wants to be No. 1 back.

Rojo on 1-2 downs and White to come for 3rd.

  14. lambeau Says:

Joe seems a bit out of it today–if the Bucs can transform Lavonte David’s $12.5 M salary into a $3.5 M cap hit, it’s silly to say they can’t afford James White at $3.5 M or less. And to think RoJo or Vaughn or Lenny is going to be adequate as a checkdown for Brady’s last SB run is … not paying attention.

  15. Robert Says:

What’s the money difference between him and Lenny?

  16. TOM Says:

White has been my choice all along.

  17. Buczilla Says:

Hands of stone Ronald Jones can run, but is not good at catching passes and it doesn’t look like he ever will be. Lenny is probably gone, but can run better and catch a little better than Ronald. Vaughn barely played. White would be a massive upgrade catching the ball.

  18. DoooshLaRue Says:

I think it would be a great move.

My only concern is that we would be violating an NFL policy of having too many Whites on the team.

Might lose some draft pics or something….

  19. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

I would be shocked if Playoff Lenny returns; he should be selfish and go for the money – he is a RB and his shelf life is very limited. But then the Bucs shocked me by tagging CG.

NO WAY the Bucs use another high pick on a RB, probably no draft picks at all unless there is special value there (BPA by far). So if none are drafted and Playoff Lenny doesn’t stay, they need more depth, hence White would be a good choice. BUT, I suspect others really good RBs will be cut that we can pick up.

  20. Allbuccedup Says:

Let Shaq walk sign Gronk, White, Succop, Gabbert and a low priced free agent edge rusher with Shaqs money and of course draft an edge rusher and defensive tackle/end in the first two rounds.

  21. Buc4evr Says:

I’d like to see Lenny stay if we can keep him for a cap friendly deal. Otherwise White would be OK. Lenny is power back that can shift directions and find holes which is something the Bucs need and he got better catching the ball as the season progressed. Don’t think we should draft an RB but if we do my vote would be for Harris, if he is still available, who has the size to run over CB’s. The guy is a TD machine.

  22. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Wow, Doosh should be called Douche, did you grow up in the 50-60ies? White runs hard and is extremely smart, plus I have watched him for years and don’t ever remember him having a fumble. As solid as it gets for that position. 3.5 mil is a steal. Lenny one dimensional so is Rojo, Bucs don’t need two bruising RB’s.

  23. buc15 Says:

Nope. We draft a pass catching RB

  24. BillMFL Says:

Done deal if Tom wants it and price is right. Jones is ready to be the featured back. Vaughn should be better number 2 after a full preseason. White excellent 3rd down specialist. Draft a new rb guy with good potential after a defensive line stud in first round.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    pass

    develop vaughn…ride rojo…draft…

    GO BUCS!!!

  26. geno711 Says:

I was not that thrilled when ROJO could not get in the end zone in the Super Bowl for us. Really would have preferred Lenny’s bigger ass there.

However, I do like James White as a pass receiving threat for us.

  27. adam from ny Says:

i don’t think they go after white unless he’s dirt cheap…

also it all depends if they think they “truly” can’t develop sneak vaughn…

if they think vaughn will blossom in the passing attack, there is no reason to go after white…

they have a full offseason to develop sneak’s pass catching skill set…

also. better to grab a rookie running back if possible early in the draft – if he’s sitting there staring you in th facee- like etienne, harris or the carolina kid…

and grab a rookie rb who also has pass catching skills somewhat developed…

gotta grab a rookie back as “stone hands” jones is heading into the last year under contract…

rojo might be priming for a big time breakout year running the ball tho

  28. Allbuccedup Says:

No hands Jones they call him.

  29. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

I hope they grab White and draft a RB.

  30. rrsrq Says:

Bring back the Mack to rayjay, Marlon Mack

  31. 6throundpick Says:

This would be a very smart move. White is outstanding; he runs, and catches. TB12 knows him. He’ll be productive from the start.

  32. Jmarkbuc Says:

72 of 95? We got guys who don’t catch… surely this number is incorrect.

  33. Philip Monroe Says:

    YES! YES! YES!

In addition to many comments above — chemistry with Tom Brady, good hands, reasonable price, and being closer to family — James White would bring additional Super Bowl swagger to the team (he has 3 rings). Having Brady, Gronk, and White on the Bucs would help anchor the team into a dynasty mindset — translate a Super Bowl win into ongoing success!

It only makes sense! As Brady and Gronk have shown, adding championship experience and attitude goes a long way in creating a winning culture!

  34. Kentucky Buc Says:

If Lenny leaves for a bigger contract then White is a no brainer. On top of everything else he brings , he would be a career changing mentor to Sneak Vaughn. Will say it again. Watch the tape on James. Humble guy who would be another great guy in the locker room. If u truly watch the film there’s no way u don’t want this guy.

  35. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

Full disclosure guys I am a Patriots fan as it is my home team, but I hated the way they treated Brady towards the end and I said I’m a fan wherever he goes,I’m glad for him that he left and I’m happy for Tampa you got him that being said James white would be a great fit,he was great to watch every week,so I hope I’m not hated, just one more thing,I hope the bucs smoke the Patriots this year on the way to another Superbowl GO BUCS!!and don’t hate me
