Bruce Arians: Offers Are Out There

March 30th, 2021

Status.

Of the Bucs’ Big 8 free agents, one guy is still out there walking the streets.

And when in his prime, he was arguably the best receiver in the game, furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown. While there have been several reports from last week that there is an open line of communications between the Bucs and Brown’s camp, when given the chance to comment on the status of Brown returning, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians punted today.

In a media availability by way of Zoom, Arians was asked about Brown’s status and potentially signing other free agent receiver(s).

“It’s going to take our time,” Arians responded when asked how quickly re-signing Brown or another free agent receiver(s) may happen. “There’s offers out there. We’ll see how it goes.”

Are we to take that as Arians is playing poker with Brown and feigning no interest, or are we to take that as the Bucs have moved on from Brown? Arians did not mention Brown once in his response.

And Joe was struck by how Arians referred to “offers” as in plural. Joe suspects the Bucs plan to use the money allocated for Brown if he chooses to go elsewhere this fall.

As we sit here at the end of March, it’s very much a buyer’s market for free agents. And their agents likely know it.

They should sign Brown, he was the best receiver on the team, the hardest worker, and he showed up when it counted, was just starting to hit his stride.

  2. mark2001 Says:

Like it… Brown proved his worth and don’t doubt his skill. But the last thing we would need is to lose him in December. And if he wants too much, get the next best. It should be enough should Evans or Godwin have some games out during the season.

  3. KoryC idahome bucc fan Says:

    Agreed!

  4. Pewter941 Says:

I expect the offer to be what his contract was last year.

  5. RobMicMag Says:

Tomorrow is the final day of March.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    “Offers out there”…..could mean just about anything……Bucs offer(s) to Brown…..Bucs offer(s) to other WRs…..Brown offer(s) to Bucs….other WRs offer(s) to Bucs…….

Sportrac shows us $1,128 above the cap…..

We still have quite a bit of restructuring necessary.

  7. Robert Says:

I wish him well wherever he goes. He elevated our WR’s game AND was MONEY!

I hope the sign him, but a small part of me wishes him to take the best offer. He only has so much time to make $$. He proved it already. I wouldn’t take a prove it deal again if I was him. He probably has more legal fees than that offer……..and let’s face it. He is undoubtedly the best WR available! (and probably of our roster last year when it counted)

This one kind of irks me a little, but they know more than me..so let the chips fall where they may.

Just don’t cry next December when we need him because ME pulled a hammy or CG get’s the drops. To not get a guy of AB’s talent at a reasonable rate just blows my mind.

  8. Robert Says:

And let’s face it….every call Brady made last year, from changing the offense late. to getting AB was on the money. I give him 70% credit and the coaching 30%—-on offense that is.

JL and BA did what Brady told them to do. If TB thinks AB is off the rails, thats something we don’t know… but if TB wants him…they better sign him.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

I’d have one year, come win a championship offers to the following players …
    AB
    Geno Atkins
    Jadeveon Clowney
    Olivier Vernon
    Melvin Ingram
    Quinton Dunbar
    Aldon Smith

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

The only reason they should let Brown walk is money. The guy did nothing, as far as I know, that would negate bringing him back.

  11. K2 Says:

Wow! It must be great being in all the Bucs meetings to know what was Tom and what was the coaches. Could you send us some film on those conversations…so we can just fire are stupid coaches and let Brady run the team. Apparently, the biggest coaching staff in the NFL is just superfluous and Brady should be running the show.

  12. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

If they are offering him the $750k salary after what he did coming off the couch mid season and in SB after injury, Bucs don’t deserve him. If he signs on another powerhouse NFC team this may come back to haunt them. December is a civil trial the attorneys will keep filing for continuances until after the season. Sign the man unless more offseasons crap has stirred up.

  13. BucBrady Says:

    CleanHouse:

    “Best receiver on the team”

    ????

What season did you watch? Evans was the best receiver on the team, and it wasn’t even close. C’mon.

  14. Beeej Says:

Wonder what he’s asking? 4 million would seem reasonable, but the guy can’t jump on just anything, this could very well be his last contract

  15. Bucanero Says:

I think AB will sign within 48 hours only leftovers in free agency by now. He should know better and maybe Licht can give him a nudge to get it done.

  16. Pigsueybucsfan Says:

Slypirate:very good list would love to see at least one or possibly two of those names here for depth and they get a legit opportunity for a ring

  17. mark2001 Says:

Bucanero.. I think statements like this one are exactly that…a nudge. Basically saying,..we want you and are waiting for you to sign what we are offering the WR FA’s left out there. But we can’t wait too long.

  18. SKBucsFan Says:

By “offers” I hope he means one has been sent or Cordarrel Patterson as well.

  19. Fernando Says:

    Sly Pirate
    You onto something
Smith and Ingram and that line is deadly

  20. zzbuc Says:

    CleanHouse…..Best receiver on the team??
    He played well…but the best?????
Easy with scotch bro……Take care of your liver…….

  21. 813bucboi Says:

you think licht came this far to NOT resign the BIG8?….

    AB will be a BUC….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    I hope we resign Brown.
He was our best WR, by the end of the Year.
I think he is very important to our next Superbowl
And I think we will resign him
    Buuut.
With Brown, you just never know.

    If he leaves
Larry Fitzgerald is still a fantastic WR. He is very much worn down, from having to carry the Cardinals often sad offense.
If he were to have a lil single coverage, a lot less stress, and the best QB in Football, Larry would scare defenses!

And he is a great human being. I would love to see such a long suffering guy, get to have some fun and a Ring!

If we have two. Fitz would be a hood consolation prize.

  23. CleanHouse Says:

Did Godwin sign the franchise tag?
Sign and trade Godwin for a #1 and a few #2’s, use that money to sign AB and another cheap but solid receiver and some pass rush help

  24. Anonymous Says:

Keep AB if the money works. If not, go with who we have now if JL and BA think it’s enough. Wouldn’t mind seeing Patterson, but more for returns than WR.

  25. SmoothBayRider Says:

Antonio Brown is pivotal to our offense.

  26. Rockymock Says:

I’d love to have brown back but for whatever reason if he doesn’t I’m excited to see Tyler Johnson step up. That kid has it. Plus we also have Scotty miller. Both those guys are the real deal and while brown is a step above both of them, not by a larger amount. We will be alright either way

  27. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Who did Brady go to in the SB? The guys that have won the SB and it paid off.

  28. SOEbuc Says:

AB might have crazy episodes in the offseason but he also puts in a lot of work. Evans, Godwin, AB is the deadliest WR Corp in the NFL. They could tear sh!t up in the year of Brady 2021.

  29. Jo_mama Says:

Brady needs to give up some cash to sign Brown.

He wants his TB12 brand to grow, Super Bowls at 44 and 45 will easily make up the difference.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

I hope they get him back, I still think he’ll end up leading the team in receptions if he resigns, considering how often Evans and Godwin get hurt. You need a legit option at your #3 WR spot, a guy who can start in case of injury, and Scotty Miller is not that guy. At the same time the team has done and excellent job at keeping as many guys as possible, so I’m not going to rip them if they can’t pull it off (unless he signs for like $3m to play in Green Bay).

But anyone who just dismisses him like he’s a non-issue, they really don’t know what they’re talking about. WR depth is huge on a team where your starters get injured every year. If Brown isn’t coming back, I hope they can find a vet who can still play (not Fitzgerald, he’s washed up).

  31. Bucanero Says:

Antonio has to know that he needs Tom more than Tom needs him. It is a good chance for him to prove he is in his senses. Of course he wants a whole lot of money but not going to happen

  32. Bucanero Says:

Rod Munch has a point, remember when Jameis tried to win a game at the end of the season. Everyone was hurt. Antonio is great insurance. The Glazers got to have insurance but come on Antonio pick up the phone and sort it out

  33. Cainishere Says:

If Brown is a smart man and I am sure he is, he should return to Tampa and play until the big money comes back to the NFL in a few years.
Add to your legacy now because your final contract will be just around the corner. With a full off-season ahead with Brady both could be facing the greatest combo of all time this season. Sign AB, it only makes perfect sense. Go Bucs!!!

  34. Chax Says:

We got what we wanted and needed. We have mad depth in writing core. Let him walk and get paid.

  35. scooter Says:

How many NFL wide receivers were ever 7 time 1st team All-PRO ? Wide outs get injured . Give AB the money.

  36. Ericb Says:

KEEP AB KEEP AB KEEP AB!!!!!!… ..were gonna need him sorry but whoever said a step better than scotty or tyler?? You kidding me?? Dude will be our #1 reciver for sure but what scares me is the legal stuff pending so he could get suspended..but AB also needs TB12 and the bucs he better atay

  37. TOM Says:

    YADA YADA YADA

  38. BUC IT Says:

Dude is a straight DIVA…… but he came in and was a team player and stayed out of trouble. He listens to Brady. We need to make this work and bring him back. Give AB another year with Brady and he’s going to go off. AB still has that IT factor. Bring this dude back. Make it work!
