Beware!

Teams scared to sign?

Joe sure hopes this pattern of thinking is pervasive throughout the NFL.

Why? Because the more teams are scared of Antonio Brown, the less of a chance this guy has of not playing for the Bucs in 2021.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire has an interesting piece on free agents that teams need to be aware of, focusing on whether they may be overrated or are headaches away from the game.

Brown is a ticking timebomb, per Farrar, and prospective suitors should tread very carefully before putting a check in front of him loaded with digits.

What’s the problem? The risk with Brown comes off-the-field. He was suspended for eight games a season ago and shortly after his Tampa Bay debut it was reported that Brown destroyed a security camera and threw a bicycle at a security guard at his home back in October. Will a team bet on his talent? Both the Raiders and the Patriots made that bet a year ago, and he played in one game between the two organizations. Perhaps his relationships with Brady and Arians keep him with the Buccaneers for another season. Any team looking to sign him will need to be sure that the off-the-field issues do not outweigh what he offers now between the lines.

And don’t forget Brown’s civil trial for rape is on a Florida docket in December.

Joe can think of two coaches who would be hot and bothered about getting Brown. One is Sean McVay of the Rams. With the investment they have in Matt Stafford, the Rams are missing that one home run hitter of a wide receiver.

The other is Sean Payton of the slimy Saints. Somehow, the Saints always get around the salary cap. And what team would Payton like to undercut more than the same team that knocked the slimy Saints out of the playoffs and looks to be their lone road block to a division title in 2021, the Bucs?

However, would Brown want to instead play with brittle Stafford or Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston? That would mean giving up on playing for his pal park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

“Ticking time bomb” = great player. The crazier, the better & Brady knows it. That’s why AB will be here next season.

  2. Bucs Guy Says:

    Only at the right price

  3. Youngbucs Says:

Stafford or winston how about he ask desean jackson.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

I admittedly held my breath all season waiting on the next “DIVA display.” It never came, kudos to BA and company.
His talent is never in question. If he can fly straight, he’s worth the waiver.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m not worried about the December trial.

    1. Ir’s a civil case
    2. It’s in Fla
    3. Court not in session on Sun
    4. Still time for a settlement or another postponement.
    5. AB already a head-case……this won’t bother him
    6. it was just a “hassle”

  6. Casual Observer Says:

HIs play with the Bucs was truly outstanding. Especially in the playoffs run. Sure hope Licht finds a way to keep him.

  7. Bird Says:

Again. These are my favorite articles when brady and jameis together. From reading the monikers , jameis sounds like he has been to 10 super bowls and won 7. But hey there is absolutely no bias here 😂
    Johnny and jameis rule. 😂

I got my popcorn. I am ready for saints to blow that team up. 60-70 mil over the cap is a lot. And they cant pay jameis the same 1.5 mil if he becomes starter or co-starter with taysom. Last time i checked veteran starters should still make close to 10 mil per as absolute bottom discount. Another number to pile on who dat nation. They kicked the can down the road for how many years.

The saints have owned us for so long. Time to get some payback.

  8. PassingThru Says:

The history and fear of an additional suspension keeps AB’s market small, as teams are wary of offering him a deal longer than a single year, or for much money. I’d be surprised if he gets offered more than a one year contract exceeding $5 million.

He’s in Tampa Bay because of his relationship with Brady, not Arians.

  9. Robert Says:

I really hope they keep him

  10. NDOGSDAD Says:

    Beware of overweight hacks

  11. Frankinthe813 Says:

Ask Desean Jackson how playing with Jameis worked out…..

  12. NDOGSDAD Says:

    Copy and paste much ging

  13. The Daily Coroner Says:

    Keep Antonio Brown.
Sign Chris Godwin and trade him for a number 1 and a number 2 if they were high enough. Between Tyler Johnson, AB and Scotty Miller you could cover the loss of Godwin who had slippery fingers. Use those savings to sign Lavonte David, Succop, Suh and Nacho.

  14. Davenport Says:

AB isn’t going anywhere. He’s a little nuts, but he should be smart enough to know he has a good gig here with Brady.

  15. miken Says:

You are going to be surprised how many good recievers are on the open market that don’t draw much attention and can be signed in late summer. I wouldn’t make ab a priority… nor gronk really ( tb is the only place he’s playing)

  16. DaBux Says:

    Let’s see…

Get another shot at ring with TB12…

    or

Blow your knee out chasing DB’s running it back after Jjjjjameis throws an interception again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, etc…

  17. Winny Testaverde Says:

Sean Payton would love to try and stick it to the Bucs…always has. He moaned a bit when the Bucs signed Brady ( he was nervous and was right to be ). He signed Jameis, he traded for Kwon…moves meant to “punish” the Bucs. The Bucs are living rent free in Payton’s head…and it’s glorious.

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

Brown was just starting to get his legs under him, during the playoffs.
He had been out, for quite awhile.
At his best, he was the best.
A combination possession WR, who also has the speed to terrify a defense.
Seldom you get both in one guy.
He helped us win a Superbowl!
Buuut, everyday, Im nervous to read JoeBuc- worried Brown has gone off the rails.
But Our SuperHero QB seems to be able to keep in control.
We should try hard to keep him- but dont count too much on him.

  19. TOM Says:

Resign AB for team friendly contract. Great insurance in case they lose CG. Not as high on CG as most.

  20. mark2001 Says:

You give him a low contract with many clauses for incentives, all based upon his playing and behaving as he did last season. He already has passed the phase where players are used to playing with him. Marginal risk for us.

  21. August 1976 Buc Says:

The Bucs will get much bigger contribution in 2021. AB did not light it up, but was still a solid contributor. In 2021, it is going to be alot more of the AB we saw have 6 100 Reception years, meaning he is going to have some games where he just dominates again. I am not saying he catches 100 passes, although it is possible. But he never really looked like the AB that we have seen him be at the WR position. So with a full training camp this year, we will see more of a normal AB. Defenders beware, AB is going to be eating your lunch. Tom is going to be hitting AB deep 1-2 times a game, lookout, bombs away!!!!! GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Waterboy Says:

If Jameis thought DJax was bad wait until he misses a wide open AB on deep balls and throw a few passes behind him for pick-6’s on out routes. AB would turn that locker room upside down.

  23. 6throundpick Says:

AB and Tom have been in sync since AB came to Foxboro…never stopped. Same with Gronk. Chillax!

  24. SlyPirate Says:

    This SCREAMS Bucs discount.

  25. theodore Says:

    AB + Shaq > Godwin

  26. SOEbuc Says:

With Brown we have the ultimate outside WR depth to go along with injury prone Godwin and Evans. This WR corp will dominate Brady year two if you get Godwin and AB back.

  27. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

He has yet to scratch the surface. He is still not 100% comfortable with TB12 and vice versa. If Bucs can keep him I see this guy going off next season.

I’m not worried about the December trial.

    I agree!

Curtis Reeves is accused of shooting and killing 43-year-old Chad Oulson on Jan. 13, 2014 at the Grove Theatre over popcorn and talking in the theatre.

7 years later and that does not have a trial date and Mr. Reeves is still out on house arrest.

Whether justice is needed for Antonio Brown or Curtis Reeves that justice moves very slowly in Florida.

  29. Owlykat2 Says:

AB will be back with the Bucs, I believe. He will want to stay with Brady for another Super Bowl Ring.

  30. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

geno711, agreed. Maybe the courts spend less time trying to torture Robert Kraft for a rub & tug and trie the real cases. I know I will get ridiculed for this but I think the AB case is a money grab. I say this becuase we all know he is or was a time bomb so wouldn’t you think more women would be coming out of the wood work if he was a rapist?
