Special Bucs Moment

February 14th, 2021

Shares victory with his dad.

The way people talk about Antoine Winfield, Sr. and how much he’s been a part of his son’s football life (and clearly raised a fine young man and a helluva player), Joe almost feels the elder Winfield is part of the Bucs.

Team Glazer should put him on the payroll. Like an area scout or consultant. He’s already like a Bucs assistant coach, as much as he coaches up his son nightly by phone. The retired, three-time Pro Bowl cornerback clearly knows what he’s doing.

Anyway, Winfield, Sr. with Buffalo and Minnesota but never played in a Super Bowl. Then his rookie son, Bucs safety Antoine Winfield, Jr., wins a Super Bowl and had the victory-clinching play when he broke up a pass intended for Cheetah Hill.

The NFL allowed family members onto the field after the game, and you can see the Winfields’ moment below courtesy of NFL Films — when father and son finally see each other amidst the Super Bowl confetti.

Pretty cool stuff.

Joe has no clue how Winfield, Jr. lasted until the second round when the Bucs drafted him No. 45 overall, but thank goodness he did.

Interesting take Joe…but does Sr., have any interest in coaching?

What a raw and real moment, miss my pops, wish he was here to see these BUCS SB win, passed right before the first one, took me to my first game on a Monday night, Doug Williams leading a win against the fins

Jaymiss: you bring up a very valid point. Adding senior to the coaching staff may be an option especially with how well he did with jR. I’ve been impressed with him all season and had to remind myself that this kid was a rookie.

  6. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Great video Joe. For any of us who has kids (I also coached mine), you can really appreciate the love there

    Such a heart-touching video

A Father and Son relationship is so special……..but this maybe a moment that will never happen again…………which makes it more than special

His father was a true baller!!!!!!!

  8. Bird Says:

Wow. That is pretty bad arse His dad was a great player who played forever!
Hope his son can do the same here

1st year in league and you almost win rookie of year as a safety which is even more difficult

And you win a super bowl in a franchise that has struggled to win period. How cool is that?

He seems to already be a leader.

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

He lasted until the 2nd rd because of measurables. The same way teams missed Brady, Miller, AB, Edelman and so many others. Can’t measure Heart and persistence.

Remember when we drafted him and ppl were mad we passed on grant delpit? Lol gotta give Licht his credit he has made some home run picks in the draft

  12. #1bucsfan Says:

Man so glad we got this kid. Crazy that he fell as far as he did when he’s bin playing like he should have gone 1st overall

  13. Colin in Canada Says:

I wonder if they had Delpit ahead of Winnfield on their draft board. Licht made a comment on a podcast recently where he said sometimes a guy they had higher gets picked and then they end up with their second choice but they turn out to be better… Either way I’m glad Winnfield is a Buc!

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Teflon

    oh no non no no……………..

As soon as I heard “Winfield Jr”……………I knew he was going to be good because watching his father making plays all those years in the NFL……………………………..shoot!!!!!

It’s been awhile since we’ve had someone we can rely on at the Safety position since John Lynch………………….and hopefully Winfield can play for the bucs for the next 10 years.

Has anybody heard from NDog ?

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

His father played with Minnesota when Brett Favre was there. The closest his Dad ever got to a Super Bowl was a playoff loss to the Saints. In the playoffs, Winfield Jr. did get some revenge on New Orleans for his father’s 2009 playoff loss by beating the Saints in the NFC Divisional Round.

First time to comment but long time bucs fan and fan of this site: That is one Great Video to watch! No question SR. was another coach and played a role for this team.

That is a very special moment. Nice.

Lifetime memory for these people! Awesome! Good filming!

Next year we are well positioned, trying to think of where our weaknesses are–and not coming up with much. I do think that Licht will get cornerback in the draft, hope he sticks with an aggressive, tall, fast corner. I like Winfield and Edwards and Jordan Whitehead for safety very much all 3 are ballhawks and very capable. I think we take runningback round one if the best 3 are not off the board.Mostly stick with D-line if the talent is there.
Would be nice to have a punt/kick return specialist. Why doesn’t Scotty do that?

Remember when we drafted him and ppl were mad we passed on grant delpit?

Grant Delpit was picked number 44 by Cleveland. We picked number 45 right after that and took Winfield.

  27. Devinwhiteshorse Says:

Awww he must be so proud of his son! We are too sr!! Go Bucs!!

  28. LJS4th Says:

My 16 year old son was jumping up and down when we picked Jr. He was so excited that we drafted him but I was pissed because I wanted Dobbins. My son told me Winfield was going to surprise and then when we drafted his teammate Johnson he was happy again!!! The boys from Minnesota have been true assets to the team. Can’t wait to see who my now 17 year old son says to pick this year I might have to listen to him more!!! He also was a Wirfs fan as well.

  29. FactTeller Says:

Great feet by Sr. avoiding “the trash” with the quick shuffle to get to his son. So excited for both lets gear up and go back-to-back.
