Played Big In Biggest Games

February 27th, 2021

Clutch.

Joe came across the following last night and thought it was pretty cool.

With Playoff Lenny among the many Bucs big-time contributors in the Super Bowl season, he did something only two other players in NFL history have done in the playoffs: score a touchdown in each of four playoff games, including the Super Bowl.

As a result, Playoff Lenny proved to be one of the more clutch players to ever take a field in the postseason.

Larry Fitzgerald (2008) and Terrell Davis (1997) are the only other ones to have scored a touchdown in all four playoff games a team played in a single postseason. And one is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the other will be.

Joe isn’t saying Playoff Lenny is a Hall of Famer. But his mark does demonstrate how clutch he was in the biggest games. That alone may give the Bucs pause when deciding who to bring back for the 2021 season among their Big 8 free agents.

He was certainly clutch in the playoffs. Would hate to lose him.

  2. Sport Says:

I didn’t see anything other RB’s couldn’t do. Dude got benched mid-season (handled it better than I expected). Had long stretches of meh.

Sure played great in the post season, but he is fairly low on the list of FA priorities that are core to our success.

    In BA I Trust!

    Agree in BA I trust.

The article Joe linked from the Players Tribune that Fournette wrote was awesome and from the heart. I sure would love having him back but it’s also true there are higher priorities among the Big 8.

Sorry, we can’t keep everybody……Best of luck Lenny….hope you get a big,big salary….and we get a comp pick.

  6. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He sure turned it up a notch for the playoffs and super bowl.
Not only that, but he can catch and block.
I would love to see him return.

  7. Adrnagy Says:

Lenny made the most of his opportunity.

  8. Robert Says:

He got benched playing BL offense. Up the gut, which Rojo is good at. Put in the TB offense, edge plays and screens and he is 2x Rojo. Like em both, but depends who’s offense they plan to use. It’s clear which one was better. Keep him and Rojo and the TB offense. Let CG walk and sign AB and let TJ step up. Sign Humphries for depth.

  9. PassingThru Says:

I thought Fournette was a great signing, he’s a talent. But the question is, is he a unique talent that must be retained? No. Most good (but not great) RBs are fairly interchangeable when it comes to between the tackle runs. It’s the offensive line that gives them the opportunity to do damage at the second level.

Upgrade the OL. Lots of pretty good O linemen in the draft this year.

  10. Beej Says:

I like that Lenny vs Rojo combo–they have different enough styles that it HAS to mess with defenses

  11. Duemig from HELL Says:

Lenny was running like me bursting thru the Gates of HELL

RoJo and White. Have to cut costs somewhere.

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

We will see what happens to Lombardi Lenny. But we all know Brady loves to have someone with excellent hands for his safety valve passes when he has nowhere to go with the ball, and for screens like did for many years in NE. We know Fournette caught the ball slightly better than Rojo. That is not saying alot, Rojo just does not seem to be good at catching the ball. Rojo is definitely a good runner, but receiver meh.. So with that said, look for someone to emerge with good hands as a saftey valve, screen play running back. Maybe Vaughn can be that guy, we will see. But someone is going to fill that need for a Brady run offense. Could be James White who knows, BUT someone will fill that role. GO BUCS!!!!!

  14. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Sorry when you hear the FA all trying to stay, not hearing that from Lenny. Played great in PO’s but part of me believes it was for the ring and to prove to other teams he should be signed for mucho $$$. Sorry Lenny, see ya!

  15. Youngbucs Says:

Bye Lenny thx for your contributions.

  16. Just Sayin’ Says:

There aren’t that many players with tds in 4 playoff games because there aren’t as many wildcard teams making it to the Super Bowl

  17. AJ Says:

Funny thing is we all remember the Scooter touchdown right before halftime in the Green Bay NFC Championship game. Hell that’s the one we all see anytime there are highlights of the game. But the play before then was the 4th down conversion to Playoff Lenny that was huge. Not an easy conversion, tough catch. Lenny was tremendous for the playoff run. If we could get that for the full season, that’s worth holding on to.

  18. Buxszntkt Says:

Joe, your articles today are all about making our FA’s all seem invaluable.
I think you’re right , Shaq is the best FA DE available. But his success did depend on Vea. Nothing against Shaq, but you need both !
Now with playoff Lenny, 4 career games is not a very powerful stat, maybe he does produce in playoffs. Maybe any RB with some talent would have broken free with TB12 deciding whether it will be a pass or a run!
Certainly made many great RBs in NE !

  19. firethecannons Says:

He is not going to be cheap unfortunately

  20. David Says:

Shaq, LVD, Godwin. In that order are crucial to me. Fournette would be fantastic to keep but not and a costly price. Jones and Vaughn will be an awesome pair. Jones has proven it. They’re blocking and receiving will get better with an off-season with Brady. Besides, it was not like Fournette was much better of a pass catcher. He just blocked better, Jones is the better and more explosive runner
