More Than Just An Extension?
February 25th, 2021The Bucs’ free agency strategy has many moving parts.
And who would expect a guy generally irked by park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady to come up with a smart angle about Brady and the Bucs?
Joe thinks that has happened with Nick Wright. The co-host of the morning hollering show “First Things First,” seen weekday mornings on FS1, is often a Brady critic. Yesterday, Wright reversed course and sort of gave an indirect compliment to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
The past two days, Licht has stated in very public forums he’s open to extending Brady’s contract. Wright is confident there is something else at play here other than the Bucs wanting to free up some cap space in order to keep their Big 8 free agents.
Wright believes, in part, Licht’s openness to extending Brady is “messaging,” as Wright puts it. Sort of Licht saying, Brady got us a Super Bowl and to show we are all in this together, we’re putting our faith (and Team Glazer loot) in your lap.
But this got Joe thinking if the Bucs hope to keep Chris Godwin and Playoff Lenny and furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown past 2021, why would they even think of signing a deal if they don’t know who their quarterback will be in 2022 and beyond?
Brady, of course, is currently signed through the 2021 season.
Can you think of any top-shelf free agent receiver signing with a team that had a murky quarterback situation after the first year of his new contract? So Joe is convinced extending Brady could be a strategy employed by Licht to help retain Brown and/or Godwin and possibly Playoff Lenny, too.
See Wright’s take in the FS1 video below.
Should the Bucs give Tom Brady an extension this offseason?
“It’s more than just ‘does this allow the Bucs to bring back another player.’ It’s the messaging to Tom: We’re all in with you. You now have the Bucs saying, ‘We want to entrust you beyond age 45.'” — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/SP1U3NCTtC

Nick Wright and Max Kellerman are the two worst sports analysts you can find. Both are not only typically wrong, but they are both political extremists.

The Brady extension talk doesn’t just apply to offensive players…..

Ocala
I dont disagree. You know who is more annoying though?
Skip bayless is a clown . He is so annoying.
Loved it years ago when my boy jaylen rose called him out for bayless saying he played in big games and made big shots for his team in the past. Jaylen did some research and found out bayless never played . Sat bench.
So the dude was a liar too and was forced to retract

Ocala, you can’t get in front of a camera if you aren’t 100% on board with the SJW topic of the day. You don’t have to know about sports…..those two clowns are proof positive.

I mean Nick Wrong can go screw off but it’s a no brainer how much Brady means to Bucs and their fans which he’s only been here a year. He’s the best QB this franchise has ever had and it’s not even close.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:34 am
Ocala, agreed. I can’t stand either of those two. After I grew up and realized that their “opinions” mean nothing, I quit watching talking heads altogether. Used to be an ESPN junkie in my 20s and 30s.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:48 am
Ocala and bird both of you are wrong it’s rob parker by far. He never has any rational or fact based debate. His opinions and analysis are strictly based on hating he has nothing left.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:50 am
These talking head shows are pure garbage now. Check out brother from another they don’t have all the bull just real talk and debate.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:13 am
I agree with Ocala that Nick Wright and Max Kellerman are the two worst sports analysts you can find.
The only time I like Max Kellerman is when he comments on a Boxing match. Boxing is his only area of expertise, because he used to be a Boxer.
ESPN IMHO has really gone downhill.

Lol Nick had SOOOOOOO many feathers stuck in his teeth after the SB
Kudos to him that he went live on his show and ate that crow in front of America.

The pencil neck actually got kind of entertaining as Brady notched one win after the next in the playoffs. He actually became self deprecating.
He still bugs me but, yeah, Licht has to do what he can to free up all the cap space he can before he knows exactly how much he can spend on who.
February 25th, 2021 at 11:15 am
Most of them are pretty ,much the same….. All this new fake fight and pseudo discucions are really disgusting…..Stephen A saying Tiger Wodds is done, he is over and after that he won the Masters….Remeber Kellerman talking about Brady? Skyp Bayless speaks on every single sport as he was an éminence or something…..Bunch of clowns….The solution is not watching them….At least I preferr old school type of guys……Not this tabloid jerks!!!!
So Ira, I was I am and will be your fan…….

Kind of a brain-dead opinion. Of course you extend Brady in an attempt to keep the band together. Could it backfire? Certainly. Despite Brady’s age defying performances, he could sustain an injury or have that shoulder or legs succumb to time. But here’s the deal: Championship windows are rare in any professional sport. You have to bite the bullet and keep that window open at all costs.

I’d keep Brady as long as he keeps making hilarious headlines …
-Secretly met with Leftwich
-Rents Jeter’s home
-Walks into wrong home
-Covid defying secret practices
-Tiff with BA
-Recruited Gronk and AB
-Throws Trophy
-…
He’s so entertaining.

Tom Brady is money in the bank. I would never let him leave unless he losses his mind or goes blind. First, his brain process information at atomic speed next, his eye sight is that of an eagle. Last, Tom is playing in the heat. Tom is not going to ever go back north to play. He added years to his career moving south. Smart move by Tampa keep Mr. Tom Brady.

Lmao at Ocala. Sorry for your loss. Too bad your boy couldn’t pull off the insurrection.
