LeSean McCoy Says Tom Brady Transformed Into The Terminator, Shared Candlelight Film Study
February 18th, 2021Before Lesean “Shady” McCoy joined the 2020 Bucs, he was a six-time Pro Bowler and a borderline Hall of Famer, one of only 22 running backs with 11,000 or more yards rushing.
So please know that his Wednesday comments were not those of a wide-eyed young player.
During a fun and riveting interview on The Pat McAfee Show on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio, McCoy explained the influence and relentlessness of teammate Tom Brady.
“He’s the only player that I’ve ever been around, that when he speaks, when he talks, I believe it,” McCoy said. “He could tell me, ‘Shady, go walk on that water, you won’t drown.’ I’m like, ‘Ok.'”
McCoy said that late in the playoffs, Brady turned a group chat with about 10 skill-position Buccaneers into a bizarre virtual film session — by candlelight.
“He’s going into details [in the group chat] about every player we’re going against,” Shady explained. “And it’s like a voiceover. So it’s a video playing and it’s only him. He got the candles lit. He’s like, ‘This DB, he likes to press, he likes to hold, doesn’t have good speed.’ You know, every [opponent].
“I’m like, this guy is so dialed in. He’s 43! He’s dialed in. He can play another five years. Because not only the just talent or the big arm and all that, he get’s it. He get’s it.”
Brady takes great pride in extreme attention to detail at all times, but McCoy insisted Brady found ways to raise his leadership several notches in January and February.
“The regular season, he was so serious. And the playoffs, it was like The Terminator; he was even more serious,” McCoy said. “And then championship week he was even more serious. Like even the coaches have to be on their A-game because the dude commands so much respect.
“When he’s there, the championship habits pick up. The championship DNA picks up. “
What more could Joe possible add? Those gems from McCoy stand alone.

So which Joe thinks leadership is overblown?
February 18th, 2021 at 12:08 am
We all believe.
February 18th, 2021 at 12:10 am
I bet Tom had a lot to talk about with that ‘hold every play’ Chiefs secondary. He knew this offense was going to give them fits. Great insight from Shady there.
February 18th, 2021 at 12:15 am
Awesome. I know he has not done much in the last two years but McCoy was one hell of a threat at running back. I personally think he should make the Hall of Fame. To hear him say that in such awe is pretty impressive.

Man, did we ever luck out by signing Brady. I’m just now starting to get into this year’s draft when normally I’d already be tired of reading about it.
February 18th, 2021 at 1:09 am
Man what are we going to do when Brady does eventually retire!! Who can replace a guy like that!?? …. I do hope he chooses to coach in some level… I don’t think the guy couple keep himself away from football and competition!!
February 18th, 2021 at 1:58 am
Mike C, it’s the fat one that’s stuck in the eighties.
February 18th, 2021 at 2:11 am
Hmmm. Do ya think 6 Flashy rings might catch your attention?
February 18th, 2021 at 2:38 am
Buczilla,
You’re normally tired of draft talk by now because, we usually start talking about it in October.
February 18th, 2021 at 3:34 am
Long time Buc fans had one eye on the draft in August.
February 18th, 2021 at 4:01 am
Well Joe, time to add “The Terminator” to the living legends moniker. lol Eyes on 8 GO BUCS!!!
February 18th, 2021 at 4:09 am
Oops oneilbucs there goes another teammate giving you insight into Brady making the team better 🤷🏽♂️.

Is this the same Joe who said (Ira’s podcast) that he’s “done with the Bucs” if they draft Devin White with the fifth pick in the first round?
February 18th, 2021 at 6:14 am
Serious question Joes … IF we’d gotten Brady 1 year earlier, would THAT 2019 team have made the playoffs & won the Super Bowl? Or did it ALSO take the addition of Gronk, Brown, Fournette plus starting rookies Winfield & Wirfs to get us over that hump & into the playoffs?
February 18th, 2021 at 6:52 am
Geez. I hope oneil doesnt read this article
He will have a terrible day. Maybe week
February 18th, 2021 at 7:28 am
And dont forget …the man kicked his own family out of the house for what ? I think it was 12 days so he could get himself ready for super bowl
Some may call that obsessive compulsive or even crazy
And I would be depressed if i was away from giselle that long. 😂
Maybe not the kids. 😂
It shows his dedication to winning
Remember mic’d up? He said they knew what the chiefs were going to do on defense to try and stop them.
This story further confirms that
And trust me …shady hasnt been around brady before. He is not a friend trying to blow up his GOAT status…real recognizes real. We are so lucky to have him come to tampa. Its like super man coming to the bad news bears
Suck it trolls

Joes
The one comment didnt make it? Why ? Wasnt hurtful at all
Honestly a lot of these that dont make final cut have truth in them
Look at the comments above that did. Same or much worse then mine
Geez
I dont get it
February 18th, 2021 at 8:02 am
So what you’re saying is…Tom Brady didn’t tell his team to go out and “Eat A W?”
February 18th, 2021 at 8:02 am
You KNOW Brady looked at 2019 Buc films with the same intensity, before he decided to sign here
February 18th, 2021 at 8:02 am
Defense rules I will answer for the joes because it is common sense. If Brady was here in 2019 we absolutely make the playoffs and have a shot at a super bowl it’s about getting in the dance. By the way our defense was 5th in takeaways in 2019 and 7th in sacks and I believe the scored 7tds. They had the worse starting field position in the nfl and 142 points were scored off winston turnovers. The answer you seek is staring you in the face.
February 18th, 2021 at 8:07 am
Ndog?
February 18th, 2021 at 8:11 am
This guy’s legend just keeps growing.
Can you imagine how the Patriots felt this year? They’re used to Brady being Brady then Cam comes to town. They go to film session and they ask Cam his thoughts. His reply is “This DB likes to wear boring hats. That DB doesnt wear any hats at all. Did you see my gawdy hat today?” Belicheat realized that day he made a terrible mistake.
February 18th, 2021 at 8:21 am
It’s not just his leadership, it’s his knowledge. Some head coaches in the league, were football nothings when this guy was winning championships. I’m sure he taught some of the staff a thing, or two this season as well.
February 18th, 2021 at 8:30 am
@Youngbucs … ” The answer you seek is staring you in the face.”
Uhhh, not quite THAT simple Youngbucs. There’s zero doubt in my mind that there’s a world of difference between Tom Brady & Jameis Winston. And that LEADERSHIP is a huge factor in team-building and winning. THAT wasn’t what prompted the question.
Those OTHER players who I mentioned (Gronk, Brown, Fournette, Wirfs & Winfield) filled some major holes that we had in our offense AND defense for one thing. Plus our defense was virtually brand-new … if you remember, VHIII played half the season & several of the guys in our Secondary (Dean & SMB especially) were still learning the system as rookies.
I kinda follow our defense more closely than I do our offense admittedly (hint: the name DefenseRules?) but I can’t help but think that 2019 was essentially a ‘learning year’ for our defense & that they weren’t even close to being ‘playoff-ready’. The offense on the other hand did quite well in 2019 with one exception: unacceptable turnovers. Brady would’ve fixed that I’m sure, but I kinda doubt that even he could’ve squeezed what he did out of our 2020 offense WITHOUT Gronk, Brown, Fournette & Wirfs being in there. Just my opinion, but I kinda wanted to hear what the Joes thought about the difference in the 2 years.
February 18th, 2021 at 8:40 am
Defense rules on hear but to me it is that simple. The coach has said the team had talent but Brady was the missing piece. The coach literally said he loves jameis but he was not the guy those where his words not mine. Go watch the interview.
February 18th, 2021 at 8:41 am
I hear you
February 18th, 2021 at 9:25 am
Defense Rules, I’m with you. I don’t think the 2019 roster could have got the job done around Brady. Dotson was a disaster at RT, we had a rotation of RGs that shat the bed when Cappa went down, and we trotted out Hargreaves/Stewart in our secondary. Devin White and Ronald Jones still hadn’t adjusted to the league. The past off-season was too crucial in replacing plugs with studs.
February 18th, 2021 at 10:03 am
I think the offense is being transformed, now that Brady has established himself; without giving up the vertical attack, I think we’ll see a lot more horizontal passing , screens, motion, play action–like in the SB.
February 18th, 2021 at 10:08 am
One unintended consequence of The Brady Turnaround Miracle is to diminish Jameis Winston’s value as a QB/leader.
@DR: I agree. Brady on the 2019 team, the Bucs maybe barely make the playoffs, but were not ready for a deep dive through them.
30 ints, six pick-sixes and giving opposing teams short fields is what killed the Bucs far more than a weak D.
February 18th, 2021 at 10:09 am
gotta ride with @youngbucs….
towards the end of the season last year, defense was playing great….INTs were the killer…Brady raised everyones game…he wouldve did the same imo…remember JW had 2 or 3 INTs vs the 49ers which kinda set the tone for the year….Brady wouldve been ready for jimmy g….
that being said, im glad it worked out the way it did…lol…
GO BUCS!!!!
February 18th, 2021 at 10:14 am
Cobraboy … Agree. Interesting how changing QBs can impact a defense’s stats so much. A LOT more to it than that, but I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for this little thing called COMPLEMENTARY FOOTBALL.
February 18th, 2021 at 10:15 am
I wish we could put this in a can and spray it on our next QB….
February 18th, 2021 at 10:22 am
Lambeau … Agree that the offense is being transformed, but still wonder HOW it would’ve transformed without Gronk, Brown & Fournette as weapons. Good chance that 2 out of the 3 of them won’t be here in 2021 (although I’d love to have all 3 here for another SB run). Of course, we have little idea right now what our 2021 roster will look like so it’s kind of moot at this point in the season. Brady though seems like a QB who can get the best out of WHOEVER ends up being on the team.
February 18th, 2021 at 11:05 am
We have great receivers; all we need is a ground and pound back to rotate with RoJo, and a back who can pick up blitzes and catch the ball–should be quite doable.

February 18th, 2021 at 1:38 pm
joe – what do you think about leadership now? doesnt sound to me like just rhetoric. his leadership and accountability is what this team needed and it won us a super bowl by having everyone believe in one collective effort. that cant be understated
February 18th, 2021 at 1:52 pm
McCoy really nailed it just like HOF linebacker Ray Lewis did. Ray said while all the young cocky corners, safties and linebackers are “poking the bear” Brady is click, click, clicking. (studying film) That’s one reason it’s so hard to fool him on defense. As a matter of fact, I wish the Bucs were underdogs every game. We’d be 18-0 hahahaha That’s assuming EVERYBODY did their job

Alton Green
I’ve always wondered, is your name an homage to Alton Brown?

I’m glad yall lifer Bucs fans were able to witness the greatness us Patriots fans have for 20 years, when Brady signed with the Bucs I knew they would win the chip this year. I’m a hardcore NFL & Patriots fan, but until Belicheck either retires or smartens the hell up I’m rolling with TB12 & the Bucs because us true Pats fans have been defending Brady from every Manning & Rodgers lovers alike we have earned the right to call whatever team he plays for our favorite. Thank yall for yalls time
