Devin White Explains Tom Brady Game Philosophy

February 2nd, 2021

Teammates say Tom Brady is a humble guy, a master of ball security and smart decisions.

Devin White shared a glimpse into that world.

Brady doesn’t approach games jacked up to gut an opponent, light up his stats and be the guy who made the biggest plays.

Per White, Brady’s approach is about efficiency, execution — and not being the other kind of goat.

“I heard him say, ‘Hey, my biggest thing when I’m playing is not to be the reason why we lose the game,'” White said of Brady.

“So him saying that, I’m like, all right, ‘We’re not going to be the reason on defense why we lose, either. It’s back on you, buddy.’ It’s just great being able to play with a guy such as T.B.”

Joe thinks it’s interesting that Brady, a man with six Super Bowl rings, would have — and share — that kind of mindset.

This all reminds Joe of what Dirk Koetter tried to teach Jameis Winston and what Jameis said he learned after much study with mentors.

I was thinking about this last night watching some of his answers. He had such an “aw shucks” attitude and I thought that was weird. If I had a fraction of his success under my belt, I’d be the most obnoxious person you ever met!

    Joes,

White is taking this Brady mindset of him ‘not wanting to ever be the reason the game is lost’ as Brady saying ‘I’m gonna Ball out and execute to near-perfection on my end and if we lose, if won’t be bcuz because of me.’

So, Brady is really not being a ‘passive game-manager’ here, he’s talking like a true master at his craft who is performing at the highest-level most of the time.

In a recent ‘Mic’d up’ vid, you here Brady joking with a few of the guys after a Scotty Miller bomb for a TD that he ‘(the throw) was 6 inches short’ of where he wanted to put it… And it was a seemingly perfect pass…

It was a cool comment to see by Brady and shows the true mindset of a master…

I believe Jimmy Johnson once said the NFL is more about not giving games away then it is about dominating them. There’s a ton of data on turnovers…..particularly for QBs. Generally speaking a team can overcome ONE turnover in a game…..but TWO by the QB is like a 90% chance of a loss. Our last QB avg 2+ turnovers a game last season. Production like that takes the wind out of everyone’s sails because the players know the reality of the NFL. You just wont win giving teams additional opportunities.

Robert you must be from saint elsewhere. Florida is the home of the dust farters, thats the 80 and up crowd.

…seen lots 30-somethings and 20-somethings, who don’t keep it up, as well as, TB12. I’m sure the ones calling out age, are in tip-top.

I was at Josh Freeman’s last Buc game in New England – wearing a Josh Freeman Jersey. We went early to watch the pregame drills by both teams.

New England was running 7 on 7’s and I remarked how accurate that Brady wanted to be during that 7 on 7 drills. He wanted the ball to be right in a place where his guy could catch it but not the other guy.

Josh Freeman was just taking casual 3 or 5 step drops in the warm ups and tossing the soft lobs to his players. A clearly different commitment that the 4 of us at the game noticed in the pre-game warmups.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

Bobby M. – Brady threw 3 picks in the NFC Championship Game in GB and we still won. Won’t do that very often. Ball security this Sunday has go to be a top priority.

  10. Ericb Says:

Were gonna have to play 4 qrts with no mistakes..no dropped balls no INTS no turnovers…our defense keep hitting them HARD!!!! Defense keep creating turnovers like we been doing and disguise blitzes….the run game must happen and get a balanced attack going LFGO TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY

  11. Tom in MadTown Says:

Jameis didn’t learn jack squat from mentors. If he did, he wouldn’t have been hamming it up, “eating W’s”, for the cameras after the Saints beat the Bucs in week 8.

  12. David Says:

It’s a fine line in a balancing act. Take the shots – but just execute, get the 1st downs, don’t make mistakes

  13. Colonel Angus Says:

I just got done doing a deep dive on all the numbers, next gen stats, etc. After a week of little to no sleep I have come up with this indisputable fact…..score 1 more point than the Chiefs and the Bucs have a 100% chance of hoisting the Lombardi this Sunday night. I know it seems counterintuitive, but it is the truth.

Clean Pocket = Clean Victory 4 Bucs

I would like to commend Ownership, Management, Coaching Staff and Players for their Historical Accomplishment. Make no mistake the reason TB12 has been as successful in all his endeavors is ability to adjust after mediocre outing therefore its not about how he played in his previous its about how eliminate the previous mistakes. What this comes down to the Defense eliminating KC Two Biggist Treats #10_87.when the team handles the backend and not focus on the eye candy while allowing KC run as much as they want we will eliminate
KC Torch and make earn everything they get. When our Defense plays Lights Out!! TB will turn the Light Out KC
    GO BUC!!
