Pass Rush Chased Patrick Mahomes Over A Quarter-Mile

February 9th, 2021

Tormented Patrick Mahomes.

Passing for nearly 500 yards is an excellent day. Running for nearly 500 yards would be an NFL record.

Well, Sunday night Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes was chased by the Bucs pass rush so much and so often, per NextGen Stats, Mahomes ran a total of 497 yards when flushed by the rush.

Just for reference, a quarter-mile is 440 yards. The amount that Mahomes scrambled is the most ever recorded by a quarterback since NextGen Stats has been up and running (it tracks movements of players and the football with computer chips and sensors, mostly embedded in players’ equipment).

Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett damn near lived in Mahomes’ kitchen. He had a season-high eight quarterback pressures.

Hey, like Joe has always said about Michael Pittman, if you play your best game in the most important game (Super Bowl), that’s getting the job done.

I’m soooo happy the Bucs got a legendary performance that will be talked about for a very long time and will stack up with the best performances in sports history. What a story. Bucs went SB or bust and it actually paid off. That never happens. Imo this one game here puts The Bucs over in marketing, popularity, and now we have many people in fanbase. Probably more Brady fans but it’s a start. We can be no longer swamp dwellers garbage team anymore. Make Brady president after this

    SIEGE THE DAY
Like their slogan says Siege the Day!!! That needs to be the title of the NFL Films video they make of the Bucs Season

The siege the day slogan is a perfect description of the demolition job put on by the Defense. No offense to the 2002 Buc defense and there destruction of the Raiders, but this beat down of a historically good offense is on another level. Rich Gannon and the Raiders # 1 ranked offense is not the same as Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs #1 offense. They gave up zero TDs to the Chiefs. That is just plain crazy good. The 2002 Defense was a better overall defense, but in Super Bowl 55, the 2020 Buc Defense played a better game. Truly their finest performance for a game. The NFC Championship loss to the Rams was a great game, but they lost, and it was not the Super Bowl.

This team will only be better next year, now that growing pains of the 1st year of ups and downs are out of the way. To still win the Super Bowl, when your new QB did not even know where the bathroom was until late July.

GO BUCS!!! The Buccaneer Juggernaut is rolling into the 2021 season as the WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!

We know Joe gets randy for sacks, but maybe there’s room for a “pressures” kink after all?

52% of Mahommes throws were under pressure (SB record) compared to just 13% for Brady (sb record for Brady). Hat tip to Mina Kimes.

But Mommy Mahommes didn’t whine about her son’s paper mache O-line, did she? Yup, it was all the refs fault! 😂

  4. Seemore Bucs Says:

Cannot wait for NFL Films’ America’s Game: The Super Bowl Champions. They have done 54 of them so far. Number 37 was the Bucs first and will always be special but our second, Number 55, will be EPIC!!!!! SUPER BOWL LV CHAMPIONS FOREVER!!!!!!

  5. Alan Collingwood Says:

Tom Brady can’t be President. He’d have to be at least 35 years old for that, and he’s not even close!

  6. ClodHopper Says:

And that’s why his foot was a bigger deal this game than the rest of the playoffs. We made him run so much the foot had to have gotten worse as the game went along. It was frustrating watching him avoid sacks so well but those pressures did have some effect.

Just watching the replay on the network this morning. Sweet, sweet victory!
Mahomes was harassed on nearly every play. He was probably exhausted by the end!

  8. #1bucsfan Says:

Don’t want to toot my own horn but I said we will win if we harass manholes every play. The Bucs did more than that. I watched some great defenses in my day but boy the spanking they did to mahomes is almost criminal. Not 1 TD. yea our Bucs did that.

  9. Buc4evr Says:

This SB defensive effort was better than the 2003 SB defense. I rewatched the game and just couldn’t believe our D from top to bottom. It sets a precedent on how other teams will play KC now. KC may have a harder time getting back to the big dance next year.

  10. Court XXXVII Says:

An absolutely epic win — SB LV! It makes me tired just thinking about all that scrambling. Ha ha on Ma-homies. Talk about a run for your money.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I knew when we got pressure on the first KC series that we would have a great game…..it was certainly the main key to victory…..

I’ve watched every single Buc game since the beginning and there is no doubt that, considering the opponent, this was our finest defensive performance.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

I felt and wrote that the Super Bowl would be Mahomes vs. VV. Also that the Bucs would score 30 points. Still scratching my head in amazement as I normally guess wrong. What a terrific defensive performance. I am thrilled for LVD the most. BUT, the 2002 World Famous Tampa Two Defense is better than this one. Now, comparing both teams overall, they are even. Wow, what a time to be a long suffering, loyal, and patient Bucs fan! 🏈😊🏈

  13. Robert Says:

Wasn’t just Shaq and JPP…..I saw some odd numbers chasing the heck out of Mahomes. My wife felt bad for him. I told her on the last drive…here comes the int to seal the game and boom.

  14. Mike Says:

I still remember Sapp and Rice bouncing up and down in between plays and just on another level with their ability to dominate games, and I never thought I’d see the day when another Bucs D would rise up to that greatness, but we saw it this year in the playoffs and especially in the Super Bowl!

  15. Lokog Says:

    Pay him

  16. gotbbucs Says:

In today’s NFL, pass rush and turnovers are king.

  17. gotbbucs Says:

On a side note, where’s that fortune teller Kobe Faker? That fat a$$ Vita Vea was going to be a huge hindrance for this defense in the playoffs.

    He guaranteed it.

  18. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Tell ya what, Mahomes is pretty good to scramble almost 500 yds and still make some of those throws only to see them bounce off receivers hands and face masks must of sucked. I don’t think he had time to think about his toe, I also bet the novocain wore off pretty quick moving that much. You could see Vea & Suh and other d linemen getting exhausted chasing him. Not sure why KC didn’t go into hurry up sooner. Anyway D played it’s best game and again gotta give it up to Mahomes took his beating like a man and made no excuses.

  19. bojim Says:

I remember more than a few plays when Pittman would get the ball, move his feet really fast then fall down.

  20. TOM Says:

I hope the Bucs can resign Lenny but if maybe they could get White from Pats. I think TB wouldn’t mind that.

  21. SOFIERCE Says:

Its amazing that Mahomes can throw the football with accuracy even while he is running away and in the middle of a flip… however, the ball comes out so un expectedly and with such high velocity that it just bounces off receivers hands.

So although impressive, its also an unlikely play that has a 1 or 2 out of 10 chance of working, as well as, it working against you (Interception).
