This Can’t Be Real, Can It?

Tom Brady added this record and one more

Recently, when Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said his otherworldly linebacker T.J. Watt “is visiting from another planet,” Tomlin captured what Joe thinks about park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Brady must reside on the same sphere.

Brady is playing out of his mind and doing things on a football field that we may never see again. And as NBC pointed out several times last night, Brady became the oldest player at 43 to throw a touchdown pass in the playoffs.

The last 43-year old, who was just a few days younger than Brady at the time, George Blanda, did so in the 1970 AFC title game. That’s over half a century ago.

Notice the NBC graphic above. Both photos were were taken when the two quarterbacks were 43.

Brady is the beneficiary of cutting edge nutrition and training science to keep Father Time hiding behind a tree. That, and some 20 years of eating avocado ice cream and going to bed regularly at 9 p.m.

Blanda was the product of (at least) 20 years of many long nights filled with bourbon, little to no sleep, greasy steaks and baked potatoes loaded with sour cream and a pack-a-day Marlboro habit, often smoking on the bench when the defense toiled on the field in the sun.

Blanda’s idea of physical training was likely 12-ounce curls between sessions of chasing loose women. All was good so long as he was in bed by 9 a.m. He did 10 years ago at 83 years old.

Then there is the stat that Brady now holds the longest streak, at 43, of road pass attempts without an interception.

Somewhere, Joe Montana doffs his cap.

Brady really is from another planet and may be the very best that ever lived. Either that, or this dream Joe is in the middle of is one helluva a hallucination.

The Bucs having a quarterback like this really does not compute.

    Sounds like Joe….

Can’t wait for next week. Go Bears! Wanna see a home game RayJay.

Joe may have to start calling him that farm animal he hates to do so… G.O.A.T.

  5. VA Tom Says:

Jesus Christmas. I’m 50 and I look better than Blanda
Must have been seriously rough living. Bet it was fun though.

  6. HeyItsAdam Says:

At 45 years old, I’m a little closer to Blanda than Brady.

  7. gofortheface30 Says:

A privilege to have this man here. Imagine if Godwin would’ve caught that touchdown right in his hands,or wouldnt have dropped 4 other balls for that matter, one of them an easy 30 yarder. Brady would’ve (SHOULD HAVE) had 400 yards and 4 touchdown against that “super scary” Redskins defense. So scary! oh man, what’re the Bucs going to do against that big bad front 4? Shred them for 507 total yards I guess…

  8. Kentucky Buc Says:

Joe you can call him 6 Time like his teammates now do or you can use his initials. GOAT. That moniker your using sucks.

  9. Hfxbuc Says:

That’s an aged photo the FBI used on Blandas missing person poster to show what he would look like today at 94 years old.

  10. Bird Says:

Just wait until he breaks record again next year.

  11. Tattoodonny Says:

George Blanda started in 1949 in Chicago. In 1960 he started setting records in the newly formed AFL in Houston. I got to see George play in the super bowl vs Minnesota. I know Brady wants to play until 45 years old but maybe he’ll go until 50?

  12. ClodHopper Says:

I cant find it anywhere but I swear I read one time that Brady practices, or practiced in the past, getting hit so he knows how to absorb and kind of “tuck and roll.”

And his sacks always look so gentle. They look like him and the defender hug it out and then they lay down together.

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hey Joe I know people do not like your monikers for the a certain farm animal, but I noticed, you just have used facts for his moniker, that have happened here, for Mr 6 Rings, and the current living legend himself, the GOAT, Mr Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. GO BUCS!!!!

OK TBBF gets the award this morning for tossing the best shade…

“Blanda’s idea of physical training was likely 12-ounce curls between sessions of chasing loose women. All was good so long as he was in bed by 9 a.m.

    Sounds like Joe….”…..baddaboom!

Blanda wouldn’t have even still been in the league if he wasn’t also a kicker. He was the Raiders kicker until their starting QB went down..

So I try to be enlightened and not negative…not enjoying another’s suffering but it’s a freaking sports blog and I give myself dispensation.

I’m loving that TB12 exposed Bill Belicheat. It’s pretty clear now who was the essential ingredient in the Pat dynasty. AGAIN…BB had exactly ONE winning season before he lucked into a six round draft pick who turned BB’s legacy around.

The surly jerk must really be loving this morning. TB12 and Gronk in the playoffs has to be the ultimate middle finger. Would the Pats have been better than 7-9 if BB hadn’t let his ego cloud his judgment? I love it!

  15. David Says:

    ClodHopper
I don’t know if he practices it, I think he’s just smart. He is not Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes. He’s not elusive. He is not going to escape.
When a defender is about to get him there is no point in fighting it and standing there in the grasp an extra second so someone else can lay him out. He just goes down.
That said, he is very nimble and elusive by creating space in the pocket to get the throw off.

As for the picture, Blanda could be Brady’s dad. That’s crazy

  16. David Says:

One more thought – I still think the Buccaneers need to draft a QB to sit behind Brady next year but… After watching this year play out and knowing how much better the Buccaneers could be as far as consistency, I think Brady is going to play two more years at this point

  17. Colonel Angus Says:

Damn, Blanda looked rough at 43, better get on them Brady supplements!

  18. Deepdowner Says:

Another deepdowner of a post…….. Keep up the amazing writing.

  19. geno711 Says:

So question, when all the JBucsfan’s were calling in week 7, 8 and 9 for this Buc’s offense just to switch to the Brady NE offense, do we think that is what happened?

I.e. The throwing 150 passes a season to the slot guys like Edelman, Welker, Amedola?

Or did it morph into something better than what was in NE these last few years?

  20. Infomeplease Says:

TB is the GOAT!!!!!!! Best of all, he plays for our team now!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!

  21. rriddler Says:

Going to bed at 9pm is considered late when you’re going to bed with Giselle.

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Geno

I vote BETTER. And to keep beating the dead horse because of the BB mythk…he won ONE year without Brady including this season when he went 7-9 while Brady is still in the hunt for the SB!

  23. Buc1987 Says:

SPBF…the Pats would be in the playoffs.

  24. Oneilbucs Says:

This is what I hate about our fan base !! Every time we win yall make the win about Brady . But when we lose then yall make it about every player on the team accept Brady .

  25. Oneilbucs Says:

Now look how yall hoping the bears win because yall scared of the saints . I think we should be able to beat the saints . I’m not afraid of no team . If you can’t beat good teams then you ain’t did nothing . I’m glad for the win but to me if you want to be the best you beat the best . This is superbowl or bust to me no excuses . I don’t care about the off season and covid because every team had to go through it . And I’m talking about the hold team not just Brady but the team . I know yall don’t like this post but I’m not a blind bucs fan I call it like I see it rather yall like it or not and that includes Joe as well . We are 1 and 5 against good teams and I don’t like that part of our season . Go Bucs !!!

Actually, TB12 breaks/sets new records every time he steps on the field now. Kinda hard not to after 21 years in the league.

  28. Wesley Says:

Brady may look better, but I guarantee you Blanda had more fun.

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

Agree completely! While I disparage BB’s HC record he IS a defensive genius.

    Wesley

I’m an old dude who was in high school during the Blanda run…I hope..yikes it might have been middle school. But your are right. Blanda was incredibly entertaining…the polar opposite of TB12
