Shaq Is Back

January 7th, 2021

Activated.

The NFL sack king is back. Shaq!

Shaq Barrett, to be precise. And while the tenure of his sacks crown expires in about a month, his impact to the Bucs returns. Shaq was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list late Wednesday afternoon.

So unless something weird or unfortunate happens, he’s good to go when the Bucs take to the turf at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

Of course, Joe feels awful for Shaq, who only came into contact with someone (Devin White?) who had the COVID. As a result, Shaq missed out on reaching 10 or more sacks during the regular season. He likely missed out on a bonus, too, and perhaps a bigger paycheck this coming spring because he didn’t get double-digit sacks.

No wonder his wife was so upset about the matter on Instagram.

This is good timing. The Redskins are among the bottom-feeder teams when it comes to sacks allowed. They are tied for second-worst with two other teams in allowing 50 sacks this season.

Welcome back, Shaq!

He’ll still be finding a major payday regardless.

And boo hoo, he made $15 million this year, which any sane person ought to be able to sit on for the rest of their life.

You can make a lot of money in the playoffs.

He was franchise tagged. The whole amount is guaranteed. There are no bonuses involved.

Everybody talks about WFTs defense 47 sacks even though our o line gave up only 22 yet we notched 48 and they gave up like 52 and it’s barely talked about. So you tell me who’s going to have a tougher day!!! My biggest fear in this game is Arians won’t run it enough and Bowels won’t game plan for their pass rush instead just going with what makes him feel good. Still I think this will go the way of the Atlanta games, close until the 4th and then we tear the rug out from underneath them and it gets out of hand because that’s usually the time when our defense starts to do some things

It’s pretty clear when salary time comes the sacks per game is the real figure, as is TFLs, hits, and pressures. Total sacks is a nice bumper sticker but doesn’t tell the story. It’s a pandemic, and it’s playoffs that matter. Anyone who would hire him or his agent who will make the case for contract pretty much have the big picture. Not a whole lot of sympathy on that part. It’s not like he was injured.

Shaq can still earn his money. Their oline is poor. I could easily see this as a multi sack game for him.

Maybe the rest will give Shaq some fresh legs for this game. He looks slower than last year. Time to bring back all of those moves he learned from Von Miller when he backed him up in Denver.

He needs to bring it on. C’mon Shaq, step it up and earn your money. Some strip fumbles or at least if Smith is getting rid of the ball quickly get those big paws up and tip some throws.

Suh needs to create some pass pressure up the middle. He’s healthy and hopefully has saved his gas for the playoffs. JPP will always bring his A game but he needs help from Suh and Barrett on the pass rush.

I do agree. The measuring stick for defensive end is 10 sacks. You get 10 sacks to get a nice payday.

He is free agent next season unless we tag one last time which is unlikely since a deal hopefully gets down.

With that said, he didnt get 10 sacks in regular season. So you know how you can change that perception to still get an elite contract? Blow up in the playoffs. He knows it. He will be playing hard for bucs to win and set himself up for his big payday next year.

You know I’m getting really sick and tired of hearing how “great” this REDSKINS defensive line is. The narrative for this game really reminds of the Bucs Super Bowl year when we played the Falcons and the human highlight reel, dog murdering Michael Vick week 14. Remember how all week long the talk was how are the Bucs going to be able to deal with the great Michael Vick. All the talking heads and everyone in the media had the Bucs losing before the game was even played.

Then the game took place and our beloved Bucs defense stomped and shellacked Michael Vick and the Falcons 34-10, particularly Derrick Brooks. I vividly remember seeing the footage of Jon Gruden talking to the team after the win and saying, “They talked about the great Michael Vick, he’s a great talent. How are you going to stop Michael Vick, how you going to stop him.” “Not one word was said about how somebody was going to stop this defense…..remember that!” I really feel that same feeling about this up coming match up with the REDSKINS.

Now I know this years defense is not that beloved Bucs defense of 2002 and we won’t have my favorite player on the team Devon White on the field, but this years defense is damn good and I truly believe they’re going to kick it up a few notches for this playoff game. I truly am not afraid of the inept REDSKINS offense and their PEG LEG quarter back first over all pick, never was Alex Smith. In my opinion this game will not be as close as some “experts” are predicting.

Our defense will be as hungry if not hungrier than the REDSKINS defense…..don’t think for one second they’re not taking notes on the quiet disrespect they’ve been getting from everyone saying how the REDSKINS beating our Bucs could be the upset of the playoffs. Hey PEG LEG…..Shaq, JPP, Lavante and Suh are coming for you, you best keep your head on a swivel.

Love people like windbaggery. Wanting to make as much as people who are producing less than me is a human trait. Very thinly veiled racism there. Oh he’s a millionaire so he doesn’t have problems…. is a weak ass argument. Just hush, for everyone’s sake.

JUST kick the ball and let’s go

I hope Shaq brings a big appetite Saturday night. Show up when the lights are the brightest and you’ll get your contract.
